Heart disease is the world's biggest killer—and it often strikes without warning. It's responsible for around 1 in 5 deaths in the US. While these figures are deeply worrying, heart disease is not inevitable. Decades of research have unearthed many of the risk factors associated with heart health, like poor diet or a sedentary lifestyle. In this episode, Dr. Nour Makarem outlines the latest scientific discoveries in this field and unveils some less-familiar risk factors. Drawing from large-scale population data and the latest wearable tech, she uncovers what makes heart disease so hard to spot, and what we can do today to prevent it. Nour is a cardiovascular epidemiologist at Columbia University, whose research focuses on how our behaviors—like sleep, stress, and daily rhythms—impact heart disease risk. Her research has helped shape the American Heart Association's Essential Eight guide to heart health. Unwrap the truth about your food

In this episode of PivotMe, April dives into one of the sneakiest ways we sabotage ourselves: saying yes after a string of no's. Our brains often trick us into believing we “deserve” a reward after sacrifice—even if that yes derails our goals. April shares how to recognize this moment of weakness, why it happens, and how to build the self-awareness needed to stay aligned with your bigger vision. She emphasizes the importance of being intentional in decision-making, ensuring that every yes or no moves you closer to the life and business you're building. What You'll Learn in This Episode: How your brain uses “rewards” to justify a yes after multiple no's. How to be intentional in decision-making and outsmart your brain. The power of saying the fourth no with the same energy as the first. Why awareness is the first step in stopping sabotage. Quote to Remember: “Your brain will try to trick you into a yes after sacrifice—but the true reward is staying aligned with your goals.” – April Key Takeaway: High performers don't just say no once—they say no consistently, even when their brain is screaming for an easy yes. That consistency is where the magic happens. ______________________________________

Last week I shared an episode with the wonderful Dr Monika Sharma all about cortisol. We talked about what it is, why we need it, how to regulate it and the role it plays in relation to type 1 diabetes. Within that chat we got onto the subject of a morning routine and what we can do to build healthy habits that can set us up for the day without being overstimulated and sending cortisol off the charts.I'm super thankful to Dr Monika for her expertise and knowledge, and during that conversation I briefly mentioned how I had recently started to build out a more consistent morning routine, having been a morning routine skeptic and believing it couldn't possibly help me with my type 1 diabetes.Of course it's in no way a replacement for medication, professional guidance or treatment, but I do believe that finding a version of a morning routine that works for me has been a positive addition to my life.So today I'm sharing my thoughts around a morning routine, and what I'm currently doing (and not doing) before diving into the never-ending to-dos and deadlines. This is just my personal experience and in no way intended as advice, but I hope you find it interesting! Do you ever feel like you're stuck in autopilot mode, running through the motions without really asking if you're living the life you truly want? Most of us have at least one habit that feels out of alignment, whether it's scrolling at night, overindulging, or staying in a draining job. We judge ourselves harshly, wondering why we can't break free. But what if these habits are not the problem? What if, instead, they're signals that point to something deeper? In this episode, I offer a new perspective on habits, especially those we label as "bad." Instead of seeing them as flaws to be fixed, I invite you to understand the deeper, often protective reasons behind them. When we approach our habits with curiosity and compassion, we start to recognize that everything we do makes sense when viewed in the context of our life experiences and what we've been taught to value. In this powerful solo episode, host Ed Molitor reflects on lessons from legendary coaches and his own leadership journey to share a core truth: you can't give away what you don't have. Whether you want your team to believe, grow, or stay inspired, you have to model it first. Drawing on the wisdom of John Wooden, Tony Dungy, Greg Popovich, and Marcus Freeman, Ed unpacks five principles every high-impact coaching leader must embrace: fueling yourself, shaping perspective, building habits, avoiding comparison, and focusing on what you have. With stories that connect athletics, business, and life, this episode challenges leaders to look inward, sharpen their daily practices, and multiply their impact. Our Host Ed is a coach down to the very smallest molecule of his DNA. Whether he's a husband and father at home or working with a client in the business world, he is an energized, passionate, and near-obsessive coach who is fully invested in showing up with all he's got to help you show up with all you've got. He knows no other way to catalyze change except by getting on the court with you, playing side-by-side, and encouraging you to keep pushing, especially when the going gets tough. In the last 30 years, Ed has developed his leadership skills in both athletics and business. From working as an NCAA Basketball coach at Texas A&M, DePaul NIU, and Lewis University to becoming the Vice President of a national recruiting firm, Ed Molitor has experienced the potential and pitfalls of leadership at every level. As the founder and CEO of The Molitor Group, today Ed guides emerging and established leaders across biopharma and biotech to apply the proven lessons of coaching in their pursuit of inspiring and driving their team's performance. Through personalized training, workshops, keynote speeches, his writing, and as a podcast host, Ed seeks to empower individuals and their organizations to achieve victory through a focus on transformation, fundamentals, compassion, mental toughness, and vision. Ed graduated from St. Ambrose University with a B.S. in Business Administration and a minor in Economics where he was a member of the Men's Basketball team serving as the co-captain his Senior year. Before St. Ambrose, he studied business at Creighton University where he played on the Men's Basketball teams which included a 1989 MVC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, NCAA Tournament, and a 1990 NIT Tournament. Send us a textAs hosts, we often find ourselves struggling to stay grateful in the middle of life's demands, just like many of our listeners. Heidi tells of a family trip filled with illness and rainy weather, yet gratitude turned it into a treasured memory. Christina opens up about caring for her mother with Alzheimer's, discovering that thankfulness could lift her anxious thoughts and anchor her in moments of joy.We also explore creative ways to keep gratitude front and center—like using “gratitude triggers,” visual reminders, or habit stacking to weave thankfulness into daily routines. Beyond personal growth, we reveal how gratitude can transform relationships, even before tough conversations. Biblical examples show us how a steady practice of thanksgiving can lead to a deeper awareness of God's gifts. We challenge listeners to try just two simple practices over the next week and see how joy naturally follows gratitude.Support the showLearn more about our Revelation Within Community: https://www.revelationwithin.org

Recently, my brother Steve asked me to share some high-performance principles with his team. Since I wasn't able to deliver the presentation live, we decided to record it on video, and he shared it with his LegalShield team. Steve is the Regional Vice President of LegalShield for five U.S. states as well as Western Canada. LegalShield is a subscription-based service for families and small businesses, giving members access to a nationwide network of attorneys and legal services for a fraction of the typical cost. The group I presented to were Independent Associates who market both the services and the business opportunity. In this training, The Laws and Habits of Success, I share practical tools and strategies designed to help you achieve more, both personally and professionally. Fan Mail Me BrrrruuuuunnndenEver caught yourself doing something weird when you thought no one was looking? You're not alone. In this hilarious and refreshingly honest episode, Detto and T-Bot tear down the walls of privacy to reveal the strange, quirky, and sometimes embarrassing habits we all have but rarely discuss in public. The conversation kicks off with Detto confessing to talking to himself in various accents and rehearsing arguments that haven't even happened yet. T-Bot joins in with her own admissions about verbally beating herself up after making mistakes. What follows is a judgment-free exploration of the peculiar behaviors that make us human – from avoiding grocery stores to dodge small talk, to judging strangers based on their shopping cart contents, to the awkward discomfort of receiving compliments. As they dive deeper, the hosts unpack how our private behaviors reflect broader aspects of our personalities and social anxieties. Detto describes his mind as constantly racing with thoughts "shooting off in every direction," while T-Bot shares her habit of addressing everyone as "Bud" to avoid the embarrassment of forgetting names. These candid revelations create a sense of connection through shared experiences that listeners will find both entertaining and surprisingly relatable. The episode challenges societal norms and questions why we feel the need to hide these harmless quirks when "weirdness is coming out" and becoming "just the norm." By normalizing behaviors that people might otherwise feel embarrassed about, Detto and T-Bot create a space where listeners can feel less alone in their own uniqueness.Ready to feel better about your own weird habits? Staying lean isn't about overhauling your entire lifestyle overnight. it's about stacking small, sustainable habits that actually stick. In this episode, we dive into the everyday choices that make the biggest difference when it comes to feeling strong, energetic, and confident year-round. We start by talking about why highly satiating foods are your best friend (especially during those times when hunger seems dialed up) and how minimizing calorie-dense “extras” can keep you feeling satisfied without the crash. From there, we break down the power of a “something over nothing” mentality when it comes to resistance training because it's not about perfection, it's about consistency. You'll also hear why making physical activity a lifestyle is key. Omar shares how Spartan races with his family keep him motivated, I talk about my time riding horses, and we both agree that nothing beats a simple walk. We also unpack the sneaky calories that come from what we drink, why sleep is the real performance enhancer, and how patience and consistency are often the missing ingredients in most fitness journeys. Most importantly, we'll remind you not to obsess over the scale or occasional feelings of heaviness. Progress is much deeper than a number. And when it comes to food, just because it's free doesn't mean you have to eat it. The goal is to choose intentionally, not impulsively. If you've been searching for a realistic, non-extreme approach to staying lean, this episode will give you practical tools and a mindset shift that can last a lifetime.
