Habits or Ritual? Have you ever wondered how much of your life is built on habits versus rituals, or vice versa? Well, you're in the right place! In this episode, I'm diving deep into the fascinating world of rituals and habits and how they play a role in our everyday lives. Do you remember Easter egg hunts as a kid? Even if Easter isn't your holiday, indulging in chocolate eggs is a shared ritual many of us cherish. It's these little traditions that give our lives a sprinkle of meaning. But why are rituals so crucial to us, and how can we harness their power to craft a better life? From ancient fertility rites to modern-day birthdays and weddings, rituals have always been about connecting people and creating memorable moments. They aren't just habits we mindlessly check off our to-do lists; they're meaningful ceremonies imbued with significance and emotion. Consider a wedding, filled with flowers, vows, and toasts or a birthday bash with cake and candles. These moments are ritualised to create depth and connection, contrasting with the simple habit of brushing your teeth or hitting snooze. In this lively chat, we explore the power of rituals, not as random acts, but as essential tools that get us through challenging times. Whether it's athletes getting in the zone with pre-game rituals or creating peace through meditation, these moments hold incredible power. Wondering how to embrace rituals in your life? Start by looking at your daily routines. What's a habit, and what can become a ritual with the right intention? How about adding a smile to your reflection every time you look in a mirror? If this resonates, share it with a friend or leave us a review. Let's explore the beauty of rituals together and see how they can transform our lives. Thanks for joining me, and until next time, take care! This is a great topic of conversation to explore further. Some of the references I use include Michael Norton, a professor at Harvard Business School, and his book, The Ritual Effect. I have not read it, but I have watched some of his videos on YouTube and he has guested on a few podcasts. Well worth checking out. . A woman in Portland, Oregon started her daily exercise habit with one activity – walking her dog. Lindsay Kee then added movements to this daily activity. Before leaving on the walk, she did some standing stretches. On her return, she did other exercises such as jumping jacks. Over time, Kee added more exercises around the dog walk. She said adding exercises to an existing activity took the pressure off of creating a whole new daily exercise. And now more than a year later, she consistently exercises around the dog walk. Kee said, “I've found it to be really effective in helping me be consistent with things that I really do want to do.” What Kee did is called habit stacking. Writer S.J. Scott created this term for his 2014 book of the same name. The idea behind habit stacking is to attach something you want to start doing to something you already do every day. 作家S.J. A common example is flossing your teeth after brushing them. However, you can use habit stacking in many areas of your daily life. Kee, for example, places her vitamins next to the coffee machine. This helps her remember to take them every morning. Exercise experts say habit stacking is especially helpful if you are trying to increase exercise time. Dana Santas is a movement expert who has trained more than 50 professional sports teams. She combines exercise habits with personal health care. For example, Santas does push-ups before every shower. And she does leg exercises while brushing her teeth. She says that her electric toothbrush makes a sound every 30 seconds to remind her to brush different teeth. But she uses the reminder to change her exercises. “It's perfect,” she added. Two minutes of exercise may not get you in shape. But, experts say every little bit helps. Experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest getting 150 minutes of moderate activity, like a fast walk, every week. Or you could also get 75 minutes of very energetic activity, like jogging, every week. The health experts also suggest two days a week of strength training. Most people find keeping new habits difficult. And while habit stacking is not a perfect solution, it does help with one barrier -- decision-making. Gretchen Rubin is the writer of Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives. She said habit stacking is one of the best ways to start and keep new habits. The technique helps to remove the barrier of deciding when or if to do something. Rubin shared a story of her college days. To help her stay active, she would only shower if she had exercised that day. She suggested combining the new, or what she calls “shaky,” behavior with something you have to do or deeply want to do. “So you have to do the shaky habit before you get to the strong habit,” Rubin said. If she wants to listen to a podcast, her strong habit, she must do it while exercising on a running machine. For her, this will strengthen her shaky habit.

(Universal Wisdom Inspired by Billy Graham)1. The Burden of Being ChosenTo be chosen by the Divine is not a blessing—it is a sacred assignment. You walk a path few understand, so you often walk it alone. You see what others ignore. You hear what others dismiss. The fire in your spirit sets you on a course that defies explanation. This isolation is not punishment—it is preparation.2. The Pain of SeparationYou sit in crowded rooms yet feel like an outsider—even among the "faithful."Relationships fade. Habits shatter. Distractions lose their grip. This loneliness is not an accident. It is the Divine stripping away all that cannot come with you."Before elevation comes isolation."—Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad all walked this road.3. The Breaking That Leads to BreakthroughMy own journey:Lost my child. Faced Near-Death-Experience three times. Endured full-body paralysis.Spent 10 years in silent retreats (Meditation), severed from the world.Yet every time, the Divine rebuilt me. (Read my Book: "Have Faith in the Lord")The breaking humbles you.The loneliness refines you. This is how the Divine forges unshakable faith.4. You Were Built for ThisThe nights you weep, wondering "Why me?"—you are stronger than you know. The dreams others dismiss? They are your compass. The habits you've released? They were anchors."God does not call the qualified. He qualifies the called."5. The Calling Is Not About StatusYour purpose may not be fame or leadership. It might be:A quiet life of unnoticed service.A single act of kindness that ripples across generations.Simply staying faithful in the unseen struggle.6. The InvitationStop seeking belonging. You were never meant to fit in.Stop explaining yourself. The chosen are rarely understood.Go to seekers, not "knowers." Truth thrives in hungry hearts. My Video: Why the Chosen Ones Are Lonely or Broken? https://youtu.be/KQ-QVNr1sFwMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast4/Why-the-Chosen-Ones-Are-Lonely-or-Broken.mp3

You're not going to succeed in your relationship or business if you don't take care of your body and your health.” “You cannot achieve anything different in your life if you stay the same … You gotta become the kind of person that can live that life.” “For those who are thinking that they want to head into the world of an entrepreneur, balance is a luxury that you're never going to be able to afford. Nowhere in our lives are we ever equally balanced, but we can have harmony in the midst of what's going on.” “The only way to teach someone is to be an example to follow — is to show by doing. Walk the walk, talk the talk.” “I see selfish as taking care of self. I don't see it as a bad thing. I see it as a good thing, because it's only when we take care of ourselves, it's only when we fill our cups, it's only when we're happy that we can share that happiness. It's when we're wealthy that we can share that wealth. You can't pour from an empty cup.” “Not doing what you don't want to do just keeps you in that nice space, so I could give quality time to my children.” “If I'm scared, it means I need to do it. I call it my fearless muscle.” “Life is about having all kinds of experiences and feeling the emotions, and just kind of being fully in it.” “People will forget what you do. Send us a textWhat if the secret to transforming your health isn't found in radical changes, but in the small actions you take consistently every day? Thoryn Stephens, founder of Brain. One, reveals the extraordinary power of micro habits in this eye-opening conversation about optimizing performance and preventing disease.Thoryn's journey from competitive skiing to marathon running and Ironman triathlons taught him something profound: structured frameworks built on small, trackable actions create compound effects over time. This realization, combined with a personal healing story that left medical professionals stunned, led him to create the world's largest database of health protocols comprised of micro habits. The conversation takes us deep into sleep optimization, where simple adjustments like avoiding food two hours before bed and reducing alcohol intake show immediate, measurable improvements on sleep trackers. But perhaps most compelling is Thoryn's discussion of brain health and dementia prevention—scientific evidence suggests that if 30-40% of people followed specific protocols, their susceptibility to cognitive decline would significantly decrease. What makes Brain. One revolutionary is how it meets people where they are. Whether you're a peak performer or just starting your health journey, the platform helps document your current routine, set intentions, and implement small, sustainable changes. As Thorne explains, "You don't need fancy software—you need a piece of paper and a list to start."This episode challenges our conventional approach to health transformation. Instead of focusing solely on lifespan, Thorne encourages us to prioritize "healthspan"—staying vibrant and healthy into our 70s, 80s, and beyond through the compound effect of daily micro habits.Ready to optimize your health through science-backed protocols? The journey begins with awareness of your current habits and the power of small, intentional changes. To Learn more about Thoryn Stephens: Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thoryn To Reach Jordan:Email: Jordan@Edwards.Consulting Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9ejFXH1_BjdnxG4J8u93Zw Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jordan.edwards.7503 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jordanfedwards/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jordanedwards5/ Hope you find value in this. "Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gains understanding, for her profit is better than silver, and her gain surpasses gold." - Proverbs 3:13-14Making wise financial decisions early in life can set the stage for long-term stability and generosity. But where should students and young professionals begin? Today, Bob Doll joins us to share practical financial advice to help young adults start their careers on the right foot.Bob Doll is the CEO and CIO of Crossmark Global Investments. He regularly contributes to Faith and Finance and other media outlets, such as Bloomberg TV, Fox Business, and CNBC. Building a Life of Faithful Stewardship from the StartFinances can feel overwhelming for students and young adults stepping into the world of work—budgets, debt, investing, generosity…where do you even begin? Yet these early years are some of the most formative when it comes to your long-term financial health and spiritual growth. That's why it's critical to lay a foundation not just of financial literacy but of biblical stewardship. Here are some timeless pieces of practical wisdom for young adults who want to honor God with their money from the beginning.1. Begin With a Plan—And a BudgetWithout a clear plan for spending, saving, and giving, it's easy to drift into debt or financial anxiety. A solid budget helps you take control of your finances before they start controlling you.And you don't have to do it alone. Tools like the FaithFi app make creating an intentional, faith-filled budget easy. It's not just about numbers—it's about aligning your finances with your values.2. Save for Emergencies—And Stay Out of DebtAfter budgeting, build an emergency fund with three to six months of expenses. Life is unpredictable, and this cushion can keep you from turning to debt when the unexpected hits. Also, make sure to pay off your cards in full each month and chip away at any student loans as quickly as you can.3. Learn from Others—and Find a MentorThere's no substitute for wise counsel. Watch those who are succeeding with money—and those who aren't. Learn from both.Having a mentor or a financial advisor who shares your values is essential. Surrounding yourself with godly counsel can help you avoid pitfalls like overspending or failing to save.4. Give Generously—Even When It's HardStart giving now. Like Randy Alcorn says, “God prospers us not to raise our standard of living, but our standard of giving.” Even when budgets are tight, generosity opens your heart and reminds you that God is the true provider.5. Start Investing Early—and ConsistentlyCompound interest is a powerful force—either for or against you. The earlier you start investing, the more time your money has to grow. Even small, consistent contributions—what financial experts call “dollar-cost averaging”—can make a huge impact over time.Start with low-cost index funds or retirement accounts like a Roth IRA. And don't overlook your workplace benefits. If your employer offers a match, take it. That's free money.6. Align Your Investments with Your FaithToday's investors have more opportunities than ever to make faith-based investment choices. As the movement toward values-based investing grows, believers can increasingly steward their portfolios in ways that reflect biblical principles.7. Embrace Rhythms and Celebrate MilestonesThe journey to financial stability can feel long, especially when progress is slow. That's why we suggest setting milestones and celebrating small wins. God wants us to enjoy things. We're not meant to live like monks but are called to be wise. These rhythms of budgeting, saving, investing, and giving aren't just habits—they're acts of worship.8. Talk About Money—Especially in MarriageMoney fights are one of the top reasons for marital conflict. Get on your knees in prayer and ask the Lord to guide you both. Set goals as a couple and revisit them often.Being on the same page financially brings unity and builds trust. It's also a way of inviting God into your relationship in a very practical, day-to-day way.9. Grow in Wisdom—And Keep LearningStaying in God's Word and learning from wise voices is crucial. Some books that we recommend to help you discern what the Bible really says about wealth and generosity are:Money, Possessions, and Eternity: A Comprehensive Guide to What the Bible Says about Financial Stewardship, Generosity, Materialism, Retirement, Financial Planning, Gambling, Debt, and More by Randy Alcorn The Treasure Principle: Unlocking the Secret of Joyful Giving by Randy AlcornStart StrongTo the student, recent graduate, or young couple just starting out: the best time to build wise financial habits is now. Begin with a plan. Learn from mentors. Avoid debt. Save for emergencies. Give generously. Invest consistently. Talk honestly. And let Scripture shape how you think about money. After all, financial wisdom isn't just about building wealth—it's about building a life that reflects the heart of God.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm 70 years old and have $112,000 in my checking account. I'm about to retire and unsure what to do with this money. Should I pay off my $110,000 mortgage or use the funds for home repairs and a new car?Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly MagazineCrossmark Global InvestmentsMoney, Possessions, and Eternity: A Comprehensive Guide to What the Bible Says about Financial Stewardship, Generosity, Materialism, Retirement, Financial Planning, Gambling, Debt, and More by Randy AlcornThe Treasure Principle: Unlocking the Secret of Joyful Giving by Randy AlcornWisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on Money (Pre-Order)Look At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000.
