Episode 3297: Freydis Hjalmarsdottir highlights how starting your day with a high-protein breakfast can significantly aid weight loss by reducing appetite, boosting metabolism, and minimizing cravings throughout the day. Studies show that protein not only curbs late-night snacking and obsessive thoughts about food, but also helps preserve muscle mass and prevent fat regain during dieting. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/protein-at-breakfast-and-weight-loss Quotes to ponder: "Adding protein to your diet is a very effective way to lose weight. It may also help dieters sustain long-term weight loss." "High-protein breakfasts reduce calorie intake later in the day. They improve the levels of your appetite-regulating hormones, leading to reduced hunger and cravings." "Replacing a grain-based breakfast with eggs has been shown to help you eat fewer calories for the next 36 hours and lose more weight and body fat." As we move into the season of Lent, we're offering a series to help each of us prepare the way of the Lord. It's a good time to take stock of our spiritual practices, and today's guide is the author John Mark Comer. In his book Practicing the Way, John Mark explores the practical realities of what it means to be an apprentice of Jesus:“It seems to me that the telos of the spiritual journey in the Christian way is becoming a person of love through deepening union with the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit…It's the two greatest commandments: love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself, that Jesus put at the center of apprenticeship to him.” This episode is drawn from an online conversation recorded in 2024.
What if the real key to success isn't hustle — but collaboration? In this compelling episode of Women Road Warriors, Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro explore The Power of Collaborative Relationships with leadership expert and author Leslie Grossman. Trades grow when leaders grow. In this solo episode, Chad breaks down the real work of leadership in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical: sacrifice, habits, unseen effort, and passion. He shows how a leader's day-to-day routine quietly shapes technicians' income, families, and even Christmas mornings. Hear how to trade busy work for high-impact work, build simple daily habits that move revenue and culture, and embrace the "unrequited work" no one sees, but everyone feels. Chad also shares why working hard is only the starting line, and how passion and belief separate an average shop from a market leader. Could the key to a stronger ministry be as simple as taking better care of yourself? Ramon J. Canals outlines seven practical, faith-rooted habits-from handwritten scripture to daily exercise and rest—that help pastors stay healthy, focused, and spiritually vibrant in service.
In the journey of personal development, most of our lives are not crafted by decisions but by unseen patterns we practice, often unknowingly. These patterns can leave us feeling stuck, frustrated, and unable to move forward. Have you ever felt like you're trying to think your way out of habits that weren't created by thinking? You might feel more frustrated than when you started, but the solution lies in recognizing these patterns and consciously reshaping them. The Difference Between Knowing and DoingAwareness is a powerful first step, but it's not enough to rewire your brain. You might be aware of habits and still find yourself repeating them. It's about replacing willpower with rewiring—developing new patterns that ease the journey from where you are to where you want to be. Remember, knowing is recognition, and change is retraining. How the Brain Forms HabitsNeurons that fire together wire together, creating a network that grows stronger with repetition. Whether you want to become a morning person or develop any new habit, repetition is key. Yet, repetitions are challenging when results aren't immediate. This common struggle in areas like weight loss or emotional clarity shows why you need to pair repetitive actions with small rewards to maintain motivation. The Importance of Repetition and EmotionRepetition strengthens pathways, but emotion locks them in, solidifying new habits. Attach emotional significance to your actions—whether joyful or sad—to solidify positive changes. By implementing this practice, the transformations you seek can extend into all aspects of your life.Training Your Brain for Positive ChangeYour brain is not failing you; it's doing what it's trained to do. If you're aware of unproductive patterns, retrain your mind. For instance, if you're conditioned to seek sweets after meals, you can consciously reshape that habit. Changing requires fewer repetitions of old patterns while increasing repetitions of new, positive ones—essentially weakening the undesirable habits.Small Steps for Big ChangesEver start a new venture and feel demotivated by initial setbacks? It's a common cycle: try, criticize yourself, and then feel stuck. But by introducing small reps—such as giving yourself grace or acknowledging progress—you interrupt this cycle. The journey to sustainable change involves small, consistent steps rather than drastic actions.Identifying and Breaking Negative PatternsTo make meaningful progress, identify the pattern or habit you wish to change. This involves acknowledging the existing pattern, then gradually incorporating new habits. For example, if nighttime scrolling is a pattern, plan small steps to interrupt and replace it with positive alternatives. Conclusion: Embrace the JourneyIf life feels repetitive, don't question your worth. Instead, ask what patterns you're unknowingly practicing. At The Breakthrough community, we focus on patterns, identity, faith, and fitness, helping individuals achieve lasting results. Join us and discover how to become the person you are destined to be. Hosts Kevin Palmieri and Alan Lazaros challenge a belief that quietly sabotages high performers. You can push harder, grind longer, and sacrifice sleep for a while, but eventually your body collects the debt. Drawing from their own experiences with fatigue, recovery, and years of coaching clients, they break down why longevity habits influence focus, productivity, and long-term success far more than motivation alone. Most people chase results without realizing the foundation underneath them is unstable. This episode connects sleep, health, and discipline to the outcomes people want most but rarely trace back to their daily choices. If you want more energy, clearer thinking, and sustainable growth, this conversation will recalibrate your priorities. Do not wait for burnout to teach you what discipline can teach you now._______________________Learn more about:Book Alan's Business Breakthrough Session. Your first 30-minute coaching call is FREE. What if staying on top of home life didn't require doing more, but doing a few small things consistently? In this Motherkind Moment, Zoeis joined by Ingrid Jansen, co-founder of The Declutter Hub, to talk about daily resets and non-negotiables – a simple, realistic way to stop life at home from constantly tipping into overwhelm. Ingrid shares why having a handful of everyday tasks that always get done – like clearing the sink, loading the dishwasher, or running one load of laundry – can completely change how your home feels. Not because everything is perfect, but because you're no longer starting each day already behind. They talk about how short, regular resets (just 10–15 minutes, once or twice a day) can support tired mums, especially in busy seasons where decision fatigue is high, and energy is low. This isn't about rigid routines or unrealistic standards – it's about doing small things that make life feel calmer for your future self. The conversation also explores toys, clutter, and the mental load of “stuff” – from organising play spaces in age-appropriate ways, to decluttering gently over time, to managing the constant influx of gifts. Ingrid shares why less really can be more for both children and parents, and how involving kids (and partners) builds shared responsibility rather than burnout. This is a compassionate, practical conversation for any mother who feels overwhelmed by the never-ending to-do list – and wants things to feel just a little lighter. In this Moment, they explore: Daily resets and non-negotiables that reduce overwhelm Why small, consistent habits help your future self Toys, clutter, and creating calmer spaces at home If you've ever thought, “I just want things to feel more manageable,” this Moment is for you. Everyone talks about self-care—but almost no one tells you the truth about what actually works. If your income feels harder than it should be, this isn't about needing a new strategy. It's about how you're leading. In this episode, I'm sharing the behind-the-scenes CEO behaviours that quietly drive consistent revenue — the habits most business owners avoid because they require focus, discipline and long-term thinking. We're talking about what shifts when you stop operating reactively… When you prioritise sales before stress hits… When you lead from data instead of emotion… And when you make decisions from the business you're building — not the month you're in. Behind almost every income plateau is a focus issue. You don't earn more by doing more. You earn more by leading differently. Press play if you're ready to step into that version of you.

You're always selling something. In today's episode, Kevin and Alan redefine sales as a core leadership skill, not a sleazy tactic. Influence shapes every outcome in your career, your relationships, and your growth. The real question is whether you are using it consciously. This conversation cuts through the noise around persuasion, trust, credibility, and effective communication. Sales is not pressure. It is clarity. It is the ability to transfer conviction so others can see what you already see. If you cannot communicate value, you cannot lead. If you cannot build trust, you cannot scale. Stop avoiding the skill that determines your ceiling. Build it._______________________Learn more about:Book Alan's Business Breakthrough Session. Your first 30-minute coaching call is FREE. There's a big difference between knowing about compassion and experiencing it firsthand. Many people support charitable causes, applaud when good work is celebrated, and even contribute financially to organizations serving the needy, but few actually get their hands dirty in the work itself. When we move from being spectators of compassion to participants in it, something changes in us. We encounter Christ and His true character like never before.

Send a textWhat happens when weight loss becomes… easy?In this candid conversation, I sit down with a fellow therapist and friend Lucy Cavendish who has been taking Mounjaro (a GLP-1 medication) and has experienced significant weight loss. We explore the undeniable benefits of these injections — reduced appetite, quieter food noise, and the relief of finally seeing the scale move. But we don't stop there, we ask the deeper questions:What role did emotional triggers play in the weight gain to begin with? What happens when the injections stop? Can changing your body change how you feel about yourself? And how do we prevent old coping mechanisms from creeping back in?This episode isn't anti-medication. It's about integration.GLP-1s like Mounjaro can be powerful tools. But sustainable change often requires understanding the story behind the weight — the stress, grief, trauma, burnout, habits, identity shifts — and making sure those triggers aren't waiting quietly in the background. If you're considering these injections, currently taking them, or navigating weight loss while working on your relationship with food and your body, this episode will help you think beyond the scale.Because sometimes losing weight is the easy part.Understanding it is the real work. Thanks for listening, I hope this episode will be helpful.Philippe

Forceful abdominal exhalations activate a brainstem circuit that tightens blood vessels and raises blood pressure, even in the absence of stress or exercise Slow, calm breathing quiets the nervous system signals that drive blood pressure higher, making it a powerful daily tool for regulation Long-term high blood pressure reduces blood flow to your brain and shrinks regions responsible for memory, focus, and decision-making Blood pressure control depends on cumulative daily habits, not single readings, which explains why short-term fixes often fail Practicing nasal, slow, and passive breathing once or twice daily helps lower blood pressure by calming the systems that control it at the source

Truths Inspiring Me About Confidence and Character — A Conversation with My Son Sometimes the most convicting spiritual lessons don't come from a sermon. They come from hearing a child say something honest— something simple— and realizing God is speaking through it. And as you listen to this conversation about habits, confidence, and walking with Jesus, you may feel that gentle nudge to return to what's true. Lean into that. Because your habits are always taking you somewhere. And the small choices you make today shape who you become tomorrow. You Don't Drift Into Confidence You might think confidence is a personality trait. Something you either have or you don't. But confidence is rarely about personality. It's about formation. It's about what you repeatedly do. When you build habits that align with truth — reading Scripture, practicing gratitude, caring for your body, choosing honesty — something steady begins forming inside of you. Not hype. Not ego. Not loud self-assertion. But quiet strength. And the opposite is also true. When you repeatedly avoid truth, bend honesty, indulge jealousy, or neglect your health, that forms something too. And eventually, that formation becomes your character. You don't wake up one day confident or insecure by accident. You drift there — one habit at a time. What You Feed Your Mind Shapes Your Identity If you only occasionally open your Bible, what fills the gap? Your worries. Your spouse's tone. Your insecurities. The voice in your head that says you're not enough. But when you consistently feed your mind the truth of Scripture, something changes. You begin to live from being cared for. Not striving for approval. Not grasping for validation. But anchored in being loved. You cannot feel confident if you don't believe you are deeply cared for. And that belief doesn't grow accidentally. It grows through repetition. Gratitude Rewires Your Perspective If you only focus on what you don't have, you will start to believe you have nothing. You will compare. You will resent. You will feel behind. And even when you do get what you wanted, it won't satisfy you — because comparison has already shaped your lens. But when you practice gratitude — intentionally naming what is good — you retrain your heart to see abundance. You begin to notice: God has been kind. God has provided. God has not left you alone. Gratitude doesn't ignore pain. It simply refuses to let pain define the whole story. And that builds stability. That builds joy. That builds confidence rooted in truth rather than circumstance. Your Body Matters More Than You Think You are not "just a soul." You are embodied. Jesus didn't come as a concept. He came in flesh. Your body is not accidental. It is not disposable. Scripture calls it a temple of the Holy Spirit. When you neglect your body — through constant exhaustion, poor nourishment, or silent self-criticism — you aren't just affecting your health. You are shaping how you see yourself. And when you care for your body — even in small ways — you are saying: "This matters. God's creation matters." Confidence grows when you respect what God has given you. Not in pride. But in stewardship. The Habit That Quietly Undermines Everything Let's talk about honesty. You may not consider yourself a liar. But do you exaggerate to seem more impressive? Withhold truth to avoid discomfort? Bend the story to protect your image? Lies feel small in the moment. But every time you tell one, something inside you weakens. Because you know the truth. Even if no one else does — you do. And when you repeatedly override your own integrity, you slowly erode your own confidence. You cannot feel strong while betraying yourself. Real confidence is inseparable from integrity. And integrity requires courage — especially when no one is watching. God Delights in Integrity Zephaniah says something stunning: "The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." -Zephaniah 3:17 ESV But just before that, it speaks of a people who refuse deceit, who walk humbly, who seek the Lord. "Yes, I will punish those who participate in pagan worship ceremonies, and those who fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit." -Zephaniah 1:9 NLT God delights in truth. God delights in humility. God delights in integrity. Not because He is demanding perfection — but because integrity aligns you with how you were created to live. When you choose honesty. When you confess sin. When you turn from a habit that weakens you — even if you fail again tomorrow — you are stepping toward freedom. You are stepping toward formation. And God delights in that movement. You Are Not Stuck If you're listening and thinking: "I have bad habits." "I've let things slide." "I don't like who I've been becoming." Hear this clearly: You are not stuck. Habits can be unlearned. Patterns can be interrupted. Integrity can be rebuilt. Start small. Choose one habit. One verse. One act of gratitude. One moment of honesty. Repeat it. Push through the discomfort. Because the first time you choose differently, it will feel awkward. The fifth time, it will feel possible. The fiftieth time, it will feel like you. The Person You're Becoming You are always becoming someone. Not someday. Today. Your habits are forming the atmosphere of your home. Your habits are shaping your marriage. Your habits are influencing how your children see faith. Your habits are determining how you see yourself. So lean into that gentle nudge. Not with shame. But with resolve. You don't need dramatic reinvention. You need daily alignment. And when you choose small, faithful obedience — again and again — you will wake up one day and realize: You didn't just build better habits. You built stronger character. And from that character, real confidence grew. And that kind of confidence? It cannot be shaken. Are you building the next level, or just surviving the current one?In this episode, Kevin and Alan unpack why growth often feels heavier than expected. New environments disrupt rhythm. Bigger goals demand a stronger identity. Success increases responsibility. Drawing on years of coaching and a catalog of hard-earned lessons, they explain why perspective is a performance skill and why thinking in decades, not days, changes the game.If you feel stretched or slightly off your center, this is your recalibration. Zoom out. Get honest. Decide who you need to become next. Do not drift into your future. Build it on purpose._______________________Learn more about:Book Alan's Business Breakthrough Session. Did you know that toxic work environments are draining the global economy by a staggering $9 trillion every year? That's the price tag of showing up to work and checking out emotionally. My guest today, Phil Johnson, founder of the Master of Business Leadership Academy, joins me to explore why emotional intelligence (EQ) is more critical than ever, not just for us, but for the next generation. Phil explains why our kids will suffer more than we do if we fail to evolve in this area. We dive into why presence matters in the workplace, why organizations spend so much on presence, and yet so many of us struggle to truly be present. Phil makes a compelling case that leaders with high emotional intelligence cannot be measured the same way as those with high intellectual intelligence, and he discusses the implications of artificial intelligence in this mix. We also explore the hidden cost of giving away our energy, how it creates an energy deficit, and why replacing that energy without taking it from others is essential. Phil shows why inspirational leaders tend to be more emotionally intelligent and how everyone benefits when we lower our walls, while raising them hurts everyone around us. Through real-life stories of leadership and transformation, Phil underscores that developing emotional intelligence is essential for personal growth, professional success, and societal evolution. Let's dive in! In this episode, we discuss: [02:08] Billy's first conversation with Phil: key lessons & his methodology [03:51] Who Phil Johnson is [04:17] What leaders truly need to hear [07:05] Root cause of workplace chaos & why thriving at work is low [10:49] Habits & tools to protect energy [12:20] Real-world examples of energy loss [16:40] Developing emotional intelligence [18:16] Who to learn from for EQ [27:13] Responding vs reacting [32:24] Phil's transformative aha moments [39:08] 20,000 years of change in 100 years [48:50] Organizations treat symptoms, not root causes [52:19] Phil's advice on developing EI to lead & achieve goals Notable Quotes [06:27] “ Emotional intelligence is 400% more valuable in achieving success in intellectual intelligence.” - Phil [07:53] “ Toxic work environments are costing the global economy over $9 trillion a year, and it's increasing.”- Phil [08:43] “ We're only actually conscious about 3 to 5% of the time. The rest of the time we're relying on our, on our habits that we've developed.” - Phil [11:30] “ How we feel about ourself is based on how somebody else feels about us, we're unconsciously giving away our energy to them to determine how you, how we should feel about ourselves.”- Phil [23:37] " Everybody benefits when we lower our walls and everybody is affected negatively when we raise our walls.” - Phil [25:27] “ When we're not present, our ego-based fears take over.”- Phil [44:57] “ We can no longer continue like the slowly boiling frog to pretend that somebody's gonna come and save us.”- Phil Resources and Links Phil Johnson LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/philipjpjohnson/ Master of Business Leadership Academy: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfc3tV87p03JMDOXqDu8tQ Billy Samoa Saleebey LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/billysamoa/ Email: billy@podify.com and saleebey@gmail.com Insight Out Website: https://www.insightoutshow.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Four years after our original antibiotic myth-busting episode (Ep 60), we're back with Dr Riati Scarborough to talk antibiotic prescribing habits. This time we're joined by fellow stewardship expert Dr Laura Hardefeldt, and this time we're asking the harder question: Have we actually changed? The good news? Some prescribing habits are shifting.
