Amy, Ro and Shu present a podcast about change, transitions and navigating our twenties. We don't know what we're doing, but neither do you. Ha!
Hello you. What an unpredictable series this has turned out to be! A total reflection of the year we've been living through. We thought at episode eight we'd catch up with ourselves as winter draws in, assess where we are and attempt to wrap things up for the time being. From all of us - Amy, Ro, Shu and Owen, thank you so much for listening. It means so much that people make time for, and enjoy these episodes. Especially during such an isolating and confusing time when we are all craving interaction and sometimes need reminding that we do exist and people can hear us!Hope to kiss you all in the new year XXXX
Oh hello stranger! How are you keeping? What do you MEAN it's October? We simply do not believe you.In this episode we revisit the theme of 'Friendship'. Expect witty anecdotes, moving self reflection and pearls of wisdom... and that's just what listeners sent in! Jokes are cracked and tears are shed as your gals discuss questions including 'what makes you a good friend?' and 'how could you be a better friend?'. This was a really lovely episode to record and we hope that resonates through the soundwaves. Now go and ring your mate!! And watch Portrait of a Lady on Fire!!Love from Ro, Shu and Amy XXX
Returning from a radio silence, Shu, Amy and Ro have an honest and open conversation digesting some of the topics brought to light in the global discussion surrounding the Black Lives Matter campaign and systematic racism in the UK. Disclaimer: We recorded this episode not because we believe ourselves to be authorities on the topic, but because this is a discussion we are navigating in our personal lives and it felt pertinent to invite you into a real and challenging conversation between three friends. As always, our email is twostepsbackpodcast@gmail.com we'd love to hear your thoughts. Hello! Welcome back! This week we're discussing the hot topic of comparing yourself with others. We talk careers, whether we're 'doing' lockdown well or not, the age old debacle of instagram vs. reality and why doesn't Shu like Normal People? We reference a number of articles that you should definitely check out - links are below. As ever, stay safe and take care xxx Resources:- How I learned to Love My Unproductive Lockdown by Harriet Clifford, Quarter Lifehttps://www.quarterlifemagazine.com/learn-to-love-unproductive-lockdown- The Making of A Millennial Woman by Rebecca Liu, Another Gazehttps://www.anothergaze.com/making-millennial-woman-feminist-capitalist-fleabag-girls-sally-rooney-lena-dunham-unlikeable-female-character-relatable/- What Else Happened As Corona Virus Swept the Globe, The Guardianhttps://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/25/news-you-may-have-missed-as-coronavirus-swept-globe- Stay Home Take Care, Girls Night Inhttps://www.stayhometakecare.com/
In our second episode in isolation and with Amy back in our loving arms (virtually), we return to the theme of 'home' from our first series. We discuss how our feelings have developed with the impact of the national lockdown and share some responses from listeners. Audio quality is still questionable in places but that's to keep it #raw and #real and #relatable. In this episode Ro introduces Shu to her dear friend Natcha. If you've swung by these parts before you'll recognise Natcha to be the generous artist who designed our lovely logo and drew our faces. She is equally generous in our conversation, discussing her 'third culture kid' experience of growing up in three different countries and her transient relationship with 'home'.
Guess who's back with a brand new track! It's only your old friends (or new? welcome aboard!) Two Steps Back!Recorded long before Miss Corona got her claws in, indeed it's true there was such a time, Shu and Ro had the joy of sitting down and chatting to their dear friend and now Two Steps team player Mr Owen Diplock. Owen freelances as a Camera Assistant and Videographer (although he hates that word) and has been kind enough to agree to edit our episodes this series. He's full of film set anecdotes, honesty and generosity so please be sure to give him the welcome he deserves by giving him a ruddy listen! Also check out our new music from Lonnie Storey!
Ro and Shu share their experiences of releasing Two Steps Back into the world - unpicking anxieties about over sharing and indulging in positive feedback. As the first episode recorded without Amy in the country, the gals look to the future and discuss the game plan for Series Two.
Bit of a hefty one! But do not fear! It's all the same chat from your favourite Girl Gang with no pretense that we know much about anything. We just worry about a lot of things so it felt disingenuous not to broaden our topics a bit further afield than our petty little lives. A fun game while listening might be counting how many times we say 'privilege'. Stay humble x
Disclaimer: This is NOT our last episode as we refer to it as in the intro...The gals muse on the transition from childhood to adult friendships and the challenges and rewards that change brings. Wine is drunk, wit is shared and things get a little bit hashtag deep. But it's definitely a special one... lovely anecdotes.
The reason it took a number of months to coordinate, organise, record, edit and release Two Steps Back in the first place is because these ladies are BUSY. Amy, Ro and Shu each balance their fair share of commitments so it seemed very necessary to discuss balance and routine in the context of twenty-something creatives trying to make life work. This one gets WISE.
Amy, Ro and Shu discuss their experiences of moving back to their family homes after graduating from University. Highlights include #beansgate and #droppingapin.
The debut episode introducing Amy, Ro and Shu. It's a playful chat about our hopes for the podcast whilst we get to grips with the mics... do forgive the wonky volume levels. Dip your toe in to taste the vibe but we'd definitely recommend getting stuck into episode two straight after to hear us really hit our stride.
