Songs have always been there for Moorea Masa (pronounced More-ray-uh Mah-sa), being raised in the musical mecca of Portland, Oregon. The daughter of an Italian immigrant father and a Black mother born abroad, this singer/songwriter/guitarist has been making music for as long as she can remember. At fifteen, she was already looking for chances to perform by sneaking into local clubs, where she was lovingly adopted into the vibrant community of Portland musicians. Moorea has toured the world and shared a stage with artists k.d Lang, Allen Stone, Big Wild, Rachael Price (Lake Street Dive) The Motet, El Vy, Nick Waterhouse, headlined tours in Europe, and supported other artists including Corrine Bailey Rae, Emily King, Lawrence, The Dip, Lady Wray, Bernhoft and many more. Send us a text- On-Demand Programme Link - https://mailchi.mp/bb2a7b851246/kairos-centreRemember our foundational question: 'Do you enter a conversation to be understood or to understand?'Communication is like a bicycle wheel. Picture the two of you riding along the road to your destination, but not getting very far because both wheels on your tandem bicycle are buckled. You will get to your destination, but not very fast and it is taking more effort to cover the distance. Now let's remove one of the bicycle wheels and take a look at what we have in front of us. We can view the hub in the middle and call it “communication”. The hub needs to be tight and work well, because attached to it are the spokes. The spokes are various life issues that we all face. Life will throw up lots of stuff that we have to deal with. Those spokes (or life issues) can be negotiated around and got over much better by the two of you where the hub (communication) is tight and working well for the two of you. How do we tighten the hub so that it keeps the spokes tightly attached to it and stop the wheel warping and hindering progress? The intention is to tighten up the hub so that when communication is working much better for the two of you, both of you can better tackle life issues. Let us look at the features of Communication. It includes body posture, gestures (such as head nods), facial expression, eye contact, physical proximity, appearance, style of speech, tone and volume of voice, words (and the different meanings they may have to you) and physical contact (such as hand shakes). Remember cultural differences and word nuances! The intention is that when therapy comes to an end, armed with new communication skills, each is better equipped to tackle those spoke issues which life will continue to throw up. Improved communication skill is a life skill which works in the home, work, gym or wherever interaction with another takes place.Sometimes we need to think outside of the box. Often we need a little help to see how we restrict our own thinking! Get some help from The Kairos Centre. See what you cannot see. For me, mastering the art of no-strings-attached sex was a total accident. Since I first wrote about dating Mexican men, I've been looking for a boyfriend on Bumble (i.e., a long-term, monogamish relationship). While my profile says I'm looking for “a fun, serious relationship with someone who lives in Mexico City,” that endeavor has proven to be very difficult. So I've been making casual pit stops into random men's pants to maintain my sanity and have a little fun.Today I'm going to share my very pseudo-scientific logic on how women aren't destined to be bonded forever to every guy we fucked.Come back for more…

Send us a text- On-Demand Programme Link - https://mailchi.mp/bb2a7b851246/kairos-centre"Being heard is so close to being loved that for the average person, they are almost indistinguishable." — David Augsburger Listening effectively is a very valuable gift to someone. It is costly. It values the other person. It is learned and must be practiced. There is a difference between hearing and listening. Listening means that the information stops in the brain and is processed and digested. When information is not digested, then you will find you did not really listen to it and take it in and it quickly is forgotten. Five types of poor listeners: 1. The advisor: instead of seeking to understand and empathise, they will want to sort out the problem by proposing a fix it. Sometimes the person who has spoken, only wanted to be heard and listened to without a solution. We men can struggle with that. What – no advice wanted! 2. The interrupter: whilst a person is speaking, they are already working out a reply and interrupt when they think they have the answer, before all is shared. Whilst the brain is working out the reply they are not truly listening. Sometimes we are not aware that we interrupt each other. 3. The reassurer: is a person who perhaps interrupts prematurely and gives advice that may belittle what has been said. For example, “It'II be OK”.4. The rationaliser: that person focuses on explaining why the other feels the way they do. The replies may actually totally miss the point. 5. The deflector: perhaps feels uncomfortable with the subject matter and instead of commenting on the issue, moves the conversation off into a different arena. Often ends up talking more about themself.Sometimes we cannot see it. Sometimes we need some help to see it. Sometimes the constraints are self-imposed. Sometimes we need to remove the shackles from our own minds so that we can think outside of the box. We can teach our brains to say the right things, but our heart can betray us. In other words, whilst we are saying what we have rehearsed in our minds, our body language could be giving off a very different impression and contradict our spoken words! The other person is likely to detect that we are not really listening and feel devalued. Repeatedly devaluing the other person, causes core emotional needs to be depleting. Fight and/or flight will start to come out as they seek to get those needs met elsewhere.Get some help from The Kairos Centre. See what you cannot see. In this thought-provoking episode, employment and business attorney Kristen Prinz speaks with NYU Stern School of Business professor, bestselling author, and podcast host Suzy Welch to discuss her book Becoming You: The Proven Method for Crafting Your Authentic Life and Career. An outgrowth of years of research into human values, Becoming You clarifies what values really are—and what they're not—and helps readers better understand themselves and what makes them more authentically happy by finding their “area of transcendence.” Our values influence countless aspects of our lives, from the relationships we form with others to how we approach our work. But when our work is out of sync with our values, it can lead not only to personal distress, but to toxic team dynamics, misunderstanding, and all-around negativity. So how does one get back on track? Suzy suggests the difficult task of identifying an overarching purpose, or “area of transcendence.” It isn't necessarily simple work—in fact, it can be downright intimidating. But by making it easier to identify our values, Suzy's work aims to give readers the understanding and agency they need to craft a life that truly fulfills them. In this episode, Kristen and Suzy explore: · How Suzy's career path influenced the creation of the Becoming You methodology · Telling the difference between values and virtues or personality traits · The development of the Values Bridge, Suzy's test for determining one's core values · Reasons why we might not be living our values · What it means to live an “A+ life” and why so many people settle for a “B+ life” · How an authentic life impacts team dynamics at work Whether you're looking to find work that's aligned with your values, to improve the culture of your workplace, or simply want to live more authentically, Suzy's book is required reading. Send us a text- On-Demand Programme Link - https://mailchi.mp/bb2a7b851246/kairos-centreWe are continuing to look at Couples Counselling to 'Repair' the Sex, Porn, Love Addiction relationship damage. Let's focus on 'Communication'."The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them." — Ralph Nichols. Communication is way more than words that come out of mouths. Do you enter conversations to be understood or is it to understand. Very different styles and approach?Communication is like a bicycle wheel. We can view the hub in the middle and call it 'communication'. The hub needs to be tight and work well, because attached to it are the spokes. The spokes are various life issues that we all face. Life will throw up lots of stuff that we have to deal with. Those spokes or life issues can be negotiated around and got over much better by the two of you where the hub (communication) is tight and working well for the two of you. How do we tighten the hub so that it keeps the spokes tightly attached to it and stop the wheel warping and hindering progress? The intention is to tighten up the hub so that when communication is working much better for the two of you, both of you can better tackle life's issues. There is a difference between Men & Women! Men really are from Mars and women are from Venus.Get some help from The Kairos Centre. See what you cannot see. There are legends and then there are LEGENDS -- and Chicago's Second City comedy troupe is the second kind. This episode we focus on Second City in the 1960s - before they became known as a talent pool for SNL and SCTV! After morphing from the Compass Players improv troupe, Second City became known for finely tuned sketches -- often deriving absurd and hilarious results from a normal setting (or vice versa). And the name itself -- The Second City -- had its own comedy meaning, having been pulled from a series of unflattering articles about Chicago in the New Yorker in 1952. The impact of Second City on the comedy world has been immense with players from Robert Klein to Joan Rivers to Harold Ramis to John and Jim Belushi to Bill and Brian Doyle-Murray gracing the stage over time. So, if you are ever in Chicago, make a pilgrimage to 1616 North Wells Street where the Second City awaits, busy at work training the next generation of sketch comedy stars! As always, find extended cuts below and thanks for sharing our shows. Want more Second City? An early classic from Second City asked the question "What would happen if the University of Chicago had a football team? Ask no longer!https://vimeo.com/195830483?fl=pl&fe=sh Fred Willard and Robert Klein are two of our favorite comics -- and they both worked the boards at Second City early in their careers. This bit features both men in a parody of Ripley's Believe It or Not! https://youtu.be/MAB4ZIgL6j0?si=rVahywZ8OBrtpTa7&t=1115 It's always fun to go back in time and listen to future comedy stars honing their craft. In this week's episode of WSJ's Take On the Week, co-hosts Gunjan Banerji and Telis Demos dissect the latest consumer price index data and how its results have U.S. markets asking: “Will the Federal Reserve cut rates in September?” Next, Gunjan explains how a new generation of investors are “buying the dip” when markets decline. Plus, home-improvement retailers Home Depot and Lowe's have earnings out this week. Then after the break, Gunjan sits down with Neil Dutta, head of economic research at Renaissance Macro Research, to discuss housing. First, they dive into the state of the housing market and why Dutta believes it is in a recession. Later, Gunjan asks the important question: “Can the housing market be in a recession without the entire economy falling into a recession?” This is WSJ's Take On the Week where co-hosts Gunjan Banerji, lead writer for Live Markets, and Telis Demos, Heard on the Street's banking and money columnist, cut through the noise and dive into markets, the economy and finance—the big trades, key players and business news ahead. This month, I am sharing some of my favorite moments from my interview with Seth Godin that took place at our No BS Agencies Mastery retreat in May.Along with Seth's incredible expertise and wisdom, I'm adding my reflections on how those truth bombs connect to the core strategies we teach inside Mastery. In this episode, we dive into why people actually buy (or don't buy) your services. How to Care for Oil Paint Brushes Properly Taking good care of your oil paint brushes is essential to ensure they last a long time and maintain their performance. A common misconception among artists is that washing brushes with water is an effective way to clean them after using oil paints. In reality, water is the worst way to clean your oil paint brushes, and here's why. When you clean oil paint brushes with water, especially after using turpentine or turpentine substitutes, it causes a chemical reaction that results in a gummy residue forming at the base of the brush hairs. This residue is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove and eventually damages the brush by clogging the hairs, affecting flexibility and performance. To preserve your brushes, it is crucial to avoid introducing water until you are completely done with the brushes. Instead, start by cleaning your brushes in turpentine or a turpentine substitute. Turpentine dissolves the oil paint effectively without damaging the brush hairs. Once you have wiped the brush to remove as much paint as possible, the next step is to dip your brushes in clove oil. Clove oil acts as a slow drying retardant, meaning it keeps the brush hairs wet and pliable for a longer period, allowing you to reuse them without the paint drying and hardening on the bristles. This also means that if a little clove oil mixes with your paint during reuse, it will not damage the paint's quality because clove oil eventually dries. Here is a recommended step-by-step process for cleaning and preserving your oil paint brushes: 1. Immediately after painting, clean your brush in turpentine or a turpentine substitute to dissolve the oil paint. 2. Wipe the brush off using a clean rag or paper towel to remove excess solvent and paint. 3. Dip the brush into clove oil and allow it to soak, which will keep the hairs moist and ready for reuse. 4. When you're ready to paint again, wash the brush thoroughly to remove the clove oil and turpentine so that you start with a clean brush. Maintaining this routine ensures that your brushes never come into contact with water during the cleaning process until you are finished using them for the day. This prevents the formation of gummy residues and greatly extends the lifespan of your brushes, preserving their shape and flexibility through normal wear and tear. This method is especially recommended for all types of brushes, but it is particularly important for high-quality brushes such as those made from squirrel hair or camel hair, which can be delicate and expensive. Proper care using turpentine and clove oil ensures you get the most out of these premium tools. In summary, avoid washing oil paint brushes directly with water, and instead use turpentine for cleaning followed by clove oil for preservation. This approach keeps brushes supple, prevents the buildup of residues, and extends their usability, helping you maintain a professional painting toolkit over many years. Collins explores a crucial blind spot in business communication: the subtle danger behind a customer's claim of satisfaction. By unpacking why "I'm satisfied" can mask deeper disinterest or dissatisfaction, he highlights how businesses can misinterpret complacency as loyalty - and miss vital opportunities for genuine connection and improvement. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://jlcollinsnh.com/2011/06/17/the-most-dangerous-words-your-customer-can-say/ Quotes to ponder: "I'm satisfied. Those are the most dangerous words your customer can say." "An 'unsatisfied' customer may simply be telling you they no longer care enough to complain." "Your competitors are still out there and they are still selling and they are still trying to steal your customer away." In this episode of The Intelligent Vocalist, John explores the concept of The Dip, based on Seth Godin's work, and how it applies to the journey of singers and performers. He explains the difference between a temporary challenge that leads to growth and a dead-end path—or “cul-de-sac”—that may require a change in direction. It's a thoughtful look at perseverance, smart decision-making, and finding fulfillment in your musical path. Episode highlights: The dip is a natural part of any challenging pursuit, but it's also where most people give up. Success often lies just beyond the dip for those willing to push through. Not all struggles lead to growth; recognizing a cul-de-sac can help you avoid wasting time on the wrong path.
