Have you been enjoying the intro music for Life is a Festival as much as I have? That song, “Peculiar Colors”, was written by Atish Mehta, my guest on today’s episode. Atish is a former software engineer turned full-time DJ, producer, and label boss. Atish is a thought leader in the festival world and his earnest ideas and opinions always inspire me. Atish’s story about a difficult Burning Man experience became the foundation for an article I wrote in 2015: “Sometimes a Bad Burn is a Good Thing”. When Atish and I traveled to Poland’s Garbicz Festival together in 2016, it was the first time I had heard someone speak openly about the challenges of punishing performance schedules (sometimes called “DJ heroics”) and the strain on mental health that so much travel, self-promotion, and substance use can have on a person. On the podcast, we go behind the curtain of managing a DJ career. Atish speaks openly about anxiety, the pressures of social media, and how the theater of success has evolved into a theater of vulnerability. Atish still considers DJing to be the greatest job in the world and has absolutely no regrets about going from hobbyist to professional. He’s also a strong believer in the idea that we must all support each other in nurturing mental and physical wellness, even as we make heroes out of the women and men who create the party. Episode 115 of the "This Is Going Well, I Think with David Cooper" and today's guest on the show is Atish Mehta, a DJ and returning guest. And very soon we get the first caller on the show and we get the reason as why we are receiving so many calls recently, the phone booth outside the studio. We get a long conversation as they go on reminiscing over their last show. They call David's mom. The next caller is Mark Kenso, who hangs up very quickly. The show was going downhill eating Anchovies and Jessi calls in. We have a boring talk on guitars. They go on to call Atish's wife Meetu, who was sleeping and goes back to sleep again when David pops in the poop show. Then Miranda calls in, i wish she hosted the show, she is so much better at it. Even an indian guest like me is awful. This Karti from India rating this episode a 1.5 out of 5. For most parts it was quite boring, better get some interesting guests.
"The This is going well, I think with David Cooper is a funny, interesting can relate in this type of radio episode I have ever listened his sense of humor he is kind of catching someone's will to share their experiences and he can maintain a good conversation that he can give twists like throwing funny jokes and still keeps on holdign back on the boundaries of getting totally offending compliments to his guests and with the caller's in the episode. There are caller's in the episode that are connected with Atish Mehta like his sister who interviewed his brother about his weird things he like to do were Atisha felt awkward but still he keeps on riding the questions showing his natural way of attitude of being easy to be with and also his girl friend Nicole, David played funny jokes to her saying to Atisha about her, he says 'What is the taste of her butt hole?"", and this questions really made me laugh too much. Lots of callers were on the line up asking questions to Atish about his passion as a DJ and makes him proud, David rank his episode least of all, he really hates his own show. that do not make sense to me. I am Dhruv from India, indian like atish and he remind of me of that and I am rate this episode with 4.5 stars.
It’s very rare in today's digital age to find an artist that has built a profile for themselves without the backing of any productions. However, for the last 4 years Atish Mehta has been forging a career for himself through only DJing, and a small gig in San Francisco has turned into a musical journey that his seen him play live across the globe. Anyone that has seen Atish live can attest to his natural enthusiasm for music which is only matched by his ability to entertain a dancefloor. His mixes on soundcloud has seen him amass quite a following and the quality of his monthly podcasts has led to his play counters increase from 2000 to around 20 000 plays in no time. Atish’s natural talent and passion for music haven’t gone unnoticed: Lee Burridge asked Atish to play on the legendary Robot Heart bus sound system at Burning Man in 2011, and Atish has been invited back every year since. He’s also been honored to open for and tag with some of the most respected names in dance music including John Digweed, Danny Howells, Guy Gerber, M.A.N.D.Y., and Tyrant. Currently, Atish is on Listed Bookings’ roster, and he is a resident at Listed’s monthly party, Play, at San Francisco’s world-renowned club, The Endup. He‘s also the resident at the long-running quirky monthly event, Tutu Tuesday.. We are very excited to have Atish mix the latest Balance Selections podcast, and with this mix (as Atish acknowledges) he has shown his appreciation for various shades house: “With this Balance mix, I touched on some pretty sounds, some deep ones, lushness, a touch of techiness, and a proggy-influenced finish with a hint of epicness (but hopefully not cheesiness).” It took Atish 2 months to put this podcast together and you can definitely hear his attentive approach towards track selection, and how each track compliments the next. (“Sometimes I’ll spend up to 45 minutes just on a single transition…”). It’s this attention to the finer attributes of the mix that has made Atish a regular visitor to clubs around the world….
