When you accepted the offer, maybe you imagined being in the group photo when your boss rang the bell at NASDAQ. But five years later, your company just raised its Series C, and an IPO isn't on the horizon. Meanwhile, you need liquidity — whether it's for a down payment on a house, starting a family, or another major life event. The stock options you've earned are fully vested, but they're just sitting there. So how do you turn them into cash? If your company allows it, you can sell your shares to an accredited investor, assuming you can find a buyer who'll meet your price. That's where the secondary market comes in. I spoke with Phil Haslett, founder and Chief Strategy Officer at EquityZen, a platform that helps startup employees sell a portion of their equity to investors looking to get in on high-growth companies before they go public. We took a deep dive into how the secondary market works, its risks and rewards, and how aspiring founders can even use it to bootstrap their own startups. Disclaimer: This interview is for informational purposes only. Nothing Phil says should be interpreted as financial advice. RUNTIME 41:54 EPISODE BREAKDOWN (0:00) I used Descript to create an elaborate cold open for this episode, please listen. (3:19) The specific pain point that led Phil and Atish to start EquityZen. (5:11) “ I've kind of gone through maybe two or three evolutions of the IPO markets since EquityZen started.” (7:57) All things being equal, early-stage tech workers take on more risk than founders or investors. (9:12) Few workers are well-informed about the secondary market, “but it's not their fault.” (11:38) “ At some point, employees start to decide that maybe where they want to work — or maybe where they want to keep working — might be informed a bit by what they can or can't do with their equity.” (13:06) Should we keep the traditional four-year vesting schedule, or scrap it for something new? (14:14) Typical reasons why sellers turn to the secondary market. (16:25) EquityZen's typical selling size and average investment size, as of November 2024. (18:52) ” You're probably not gonna get a billion-dollar valuation for your shares purely based on structure alone.” (20:45) Keep close track of your equity, especially if you think you're going to be laid off. (22:20) Consult a financial services professional before you start the process. (24:16) “ The first steps are kind of just also learning if you can sell your shares.” (27:04) “ The company that you held shares in, if it went to zero: would you regret that you didn't sell?” (30:10) A framework for figuring out whether the secondary market is worth the time and trouble. (33:25) Offer your employees liquidity without jeopardizing morale or financial stability. (36:27) Phil's founder pitch: “ We're gonna support you all along the way. We can help you with liquidity in the future.” (39:16) Tips for approaching your CEO to ask about liquidity options. Hello Hot Dogs! I've waited for this day for over 14 years: mix #100 is live. When I released my first mix in 2010, I titled it [001] instead of [01]. Using three digits was aspirational, a quiet promise to myself that I might one day reach triple digits. These mixes trace the narrative of my adult life. They've been the thread connecting me with so many of you—some I'll never meet, others who've become close friends (and even roommates—hi Dan, hi James). Back when I released my first mix in 2010, we were still buying mix CDs for our cars. Soundcloud was just emerging, and I committed to monthly releases to this new platform. I may be overreaching here, but I can't remember any other DJs presenting conceptual mixes, monthly, as packaged works of art: a conceptual title, description, and artwork. That consistency and novelty helped build a following outside of my local scene, and when my 2012 Robot Heart recording came out, things really took off internationally. By 2015, the momentum led me to leave my software engineering job for full-time DJing—largely thanks to these Soundcloud mixes. I was purely a DJ then with a nascent Manjumasi label formed with Mark Slee, not releasing my first original track “Peculiar Colors” until 2017. The landscape in 2024 looks different. As Soundcloud rotted to hell and Spotify rose, the value of mixes has sharply declined. With thousands released daily, they've become ubiquitous. The career path for electronic artists now revolves around original productions and social media presence. This industry evolution pushed me toward producing my own music, opening up new creative paths I'm grateful for. The social media aspect has felt natural, as it's been an integral part of my project from the start. These last few years, the touring schedule, studio time, and home life as a husband and father slowed me down from my monthly cadence, but each mix still feels like a deep-rooted part of my message to the world, (mostly) through other people's music. Mix [100] was recorded September 7, 2024, at Public Works in San Francisco, the city that "raised me" as a club kid, where I first learned to DJ. This 5-hour set marked my last show in North America before taking an indefinite mental health break from touring. Playing this set was emotional, to the point of tears in the DJ booth, with support pouring in from both new listeners and those who've been there since the beginning. I couldn't think of a better way to reach 100. I've also created http://www.atish100.com to house all my mixes and their 1,400+ tracklists in one place, which I'll keep updating as new mixes go up on Soundcloud and YouTube. This mix marks a meaningful milestone for me. Thank you for making this journey possible. You, and the 1400+ artists and labels I referenced helped create a life I never imagined.

“It was nothing to worry about,” Andrew was repeatedly told, when he visitedurgent care twice for pain in his pelvis area. But the discomfort wouldn't go away, so he met with his primary care physician who referred him to a urologist for an ultrasound. The scans led to a testicular cancer diagnosis in early 2023. It was caught early enough, and he was told there was a good prognosis. The cancer had only spread very lightly to his lymph nodes. Adam works as the director of data analytics for a pharmaceutical company. Heloves vacationing with his family, watching his children play their sports (soccer for his son Jacob and gymnastics for his daughter Julia) and caring for his 2004 BMW. He hopes to help normalize conversations around testicular cancer for other men so they can overcome stigmas and shame around it. Today, he and his wife Kara arecelebrating their wedding anniversary. Dr. Atish Choudhury is a medical oncologist and clinical/translational investigatorwithin the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and currently serves as Chair of the Gelb Center for Translational Research. He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include investigation of genetic and epigenetic biomarkers from circulating free DNA from patients with metastatic cancer, biomarker studies from other banked human specimens from patients participating in clinical trials, and clinical investigation in novel therapeutics for genitourinary malignancies. According to the American Cancer Society, testicular cancer is not common. About 1 of every 250 males will develop testicular cancer at some point during their lifetime. The American Cancer Society's estimate for testicular cancer in the United States for 2024 is about 9,760 new cases of testicular cancer diagnosed. The average age of males when first diagnosed with testicular cancer is about 33. This is largely a disease of young and middle-aged men, but about 6% of cases occur in children and teens, and about 8% occur in men older than 55.

Download: atish.lnk.to/terrazzo Finally my first studio mix in 8 months, feels like it's been forever! This features a walk through some of the sounds that have caught my ear the last few months, touching on a few different styles and feelings. I had recently spent some time in Barcelona, observing terrazzo style flooring with shells set within polished concrete. This felt like an apt metaphor for this DJ mix, where each track is an ornamental shell, helping support a greater polished purpose. Hope you enjoy! Download: atish.lnk.to/texaseclipse I had the peaktime midnight slot with the honor of playing after Lee Burridge, so I started this one off with an organic vibe then transitioned through prog, tech-house, and just some straight up bangers. A few unreleased ID's in there from my boys Enamour , m.o.n.r.o.e and Saqib. Also funny moment: you may notice that the set just abruptly ends. That's because the next act accidentally unplugged the wrong cable from the mixer. Was definitely a nerve-wracking moment….BUT my recorder also recorded the crowd noise, so it's kinda a cool little audio capture of what it felt like...and you can literally hear the next DJ say "OH SHIT!!" ....The warm applause from all of you certainly softened the blow :) Tracklist: 098 - Live at Texas Eclipse [0:00:00] atish, Fabian Krooss - Elasticity [A Tribe Called Kotori 2024] [0:05:00] Sarkis Mikael, Nhii - Plant Power [Sounds of Khemit 2024] [0:09:00] Enamour - ID [0:13:00] Jamie Stevens & Ivan Aliaga - Firefox [Solis Records 2024] [0:17:00] Sasha - Fleuron Drift [Last Night on Earth 2024] [0:24:00] Martin Eyerer - Walk the talk [Still Hot 2024] [0:28:00] Ellroy - Safe Landing [Modelika 2024] [0:32:00] Denney - Trojan Dance [Last Night On Earth 2024] [0:36:00] Cristina Lazic - Luna [La Zic 2024] [0:40:00] m.O.N.R.O.E. - ID [0:46:00] Asher - Shifty [Aus Music 2022] [0:50:00] Deetron - Runnin [Nu Groove Records 2024] [0:54:00] John Tejada - Sweat (On The Walls) [Poker Flat RecordingsPoker Flat Recordings 2004] [0:58:00] Francesca Lombardo - Sea [Ovum Recordings 2022] [1:04:00] Saqib - ID [1:08:00] Catz 'n Dogz - ASA [Pets Recordings 2023] [1:13:00] Tom Demac - Sink Or Swim [Hypercolour 2017] [1:17:00] Polo (AR) - Nostalgia del Presente (Danny Howells Remix) [Manjumasi Unreleased] [1:23:00] Jim Rivers - Cosmos [COD3 QR 2023] Sign up for my mailer: bit.ly/atishmusic - connect - instagram.com/atishmusic www.facebook.com/atishmusic @atish Check my latest gigs here: www.bandsintown.com/atish / bit.ly/atishsk
Stream/Download: https://atish.lnk.to/elasticity "Contorting itself at the junction of straightforward jack and a more prog-minded construction that seem tailored for stadiums, 'Elasticity' (with atish) finds Krooss at his most precise and adroitly versatile.'' Fabian Krooss: https://www.instagram.com/fabian.krooss/ https://soundcloud.com/fabiankrooss Instagram: www.instagram.com/atishmusic/ Soundcloud: @atish Discord: atishmusic.com/discord
Starting with the soulful 'Oh Darlin', Krooss steers us on the path of laid-back Chicagoan rhythms and feelgood Afro soulfulness, weaving solar-powered sensitivity with vaporous floor dynamics to hypnotic effect. A further balmy slice of atmospheric electronica tinged with hints of dream-pop and balearic house, "Staring" cruises at its own tranquil pace across colour-shifting horizons and gently jagged reliefs. Pumping out an exquisite blend of sluggish house jack alongside archetypal Andalusian flavours and bass-driven manoeuvres, 'Phoenix' (feat. Frida Darko) ticks all the boxes of a festival season-ready chugger, whereas 'Move Your Booty' relies on a slightly more low-slung melody and further languid swing. All in bounce and playfulness, 'Your Soul' pulls out a bass-heavy chassis mounted with EBM synths' firepower, nostalgic riffs and orient-flavoured melodic flights, injecting a sense of spiritual elevation to its solid club-focussed engineering. Drawing in a more subdued palette of rhythmic elements, sprinkled with an eerie melody and stripped-back synth funk, 'Inside of Me' makes for a perfect transition track, with 'Manaki' going a further jagged route, as Krooss draws further deep into the Italo style, infusing his stellar arps and brittle piano chords with a thick FX gravy. Contorting itself at the junction of straightforward jack and a more prog-minded construction that seem tailored for stadiums, 'Elasticity' (with Atish) finds Krooss at his most precise and adroitly versatile. Beaming up unadulterated joy and sunrays across its six minute-ish ride, 'Coquin' bounces back and forth, ushering us into a jam-packed hacienda where the thick volutes of freshly lit havanas coalesce with the exhilarating scent of ron. A trippy ride down memory lane, 'Back To The Oldschool' conjures up images and components straight out the 90s, buzzing with that fun swash of hip-hop and tech-tinged hybrid. A delicate slab of balearic-informed deep house, 'Mtende' serves up a lascivious mishmash of coastal iridescence and sub-Saharan style polyrhythms. Topping off that broad sweep across house's manifold colour chart, 'Tied In Knots' (feat. Harry Charles) treats us to an elevating mix of Spanish guitars and 303-marinated acid bass, taking us from classicism up the modernist ladder in the blink of an eye. For over 20 years, Hasan Hijjawi AKA Kitchen Crowd has been a leading figure in introducing and pushing electronic music to Amman, Jordan and the MENA region. Back in the day, Hijjawi founded a pop up club concept called [dsiko'tek']* which hosted the likes of industry heavyweights such as John Digweed, Rampue, Deep Dish, Audiofly, Claptone, Luca Bacchetti, Pete Tong, Atish and Jan Blomqvist just to name a few. His groovy yet deeper sound draws from being an ‘adventurous' college kid living in the US where he was bitten with what some may call the Chicago house bug at the infamous warehouse parties of the late 90s. In 2018, Kitchen Crowd migrated to live by the sea in El Gouna, Egypt to pursue music full time and work on his productions which are set to be released in the near future. Going back to hosting events, In 2020, Hijjawi launched Misfits - a boutique events and booking agency that saw the likes of Traumer, Chris Stussy, Anotr, Djoko and Archie Hamilton grace its decks till date.
Stream/Download: https://link.manjumasi.com/nostalgia-del-presente Release thirty-six welcomes young Argentinian producer Polo to the Manjumasi fold with an absolute modern progressive ripper, Nostalgia del Presente. Driven by a hypnotic riff of massive stacked synth chords, this tune evokes the optimism and euphoric expansiveness of turn-of-the-millenium progressive house, while at the same time featuring a modern melancholic edge that places this track firmly in dance music's current moment. Rounding out the EP is Ultramar, a collaboration with label founder atish that kicks up the shuffle and explores a deeper level of oceanic groove. Stream/Download: https://manjumasi.fanlink.to/the-little-things-remixed Release thirty-five revisits The Little Things EP from Berlin producer Fabian Krooss with a package of three remixes, each putting a unique twist on the melodic and quirky originals. First up is Manjumasi label co-founder atish with a bouncing, dancefloor friendly take on Whopper. Solid pulsating bass energy and tasty shaker grooves keep the energy flowing throughout. Next is Belgian producer Hermanez with a masterful deep interpretation, whose airy pads and synths move into a more ethereal realm, creating a sense of movement and expansion. Finally, Berlin producer Kyong Sono (fka Kyongpaul) turns in a very heady take on The Little Things, really bringing the melodies and synthwork to the forefront over delicate percussion with a human touch and natural feel, a perfect one for the early evenings or slightly lower-tempo dancefloors. Download: https://atish.lnk.to/katerblau Happy to share a new recording from Kater Blau, Berlin. People fly all over the world to go to Kater for a reason. It's a club focused on the music, focused on the moment, focused on the experience. It attracts the right people, who go for the right reasons. I love playing there. This lets me truly DJ in the moment. No thinking, only feeling. And this recording is a slice of what I'm trying to express through music, sitting outside a box: not just house, not just organic, not just progressive, not just melodic house/techno, not just tech house (or deep tech or whatever we call it)… …a little bit of everything, as long as it flows and we all dance. As a side note, I've been getting more and more comfortable playing some of my own unsigned productions, so you'll find a few tunes you haven't heard from me before. Hope you enjoy! Download: https://athismusic.lnk.to/thebowrecording Hard to believe it's been half a year since I uploaded my last set on Soundcloud. I'm happy to share this recording from The Bow in Buenos Aires, recorded last month. If you've been following over the years, it's no secret that The Bow holds a special place in my heart as one of the best places in the world to play, since the Argentinians are some of the most passionate music lovers I've ever seen. 32 hours of travel for a 3 hour set (and 3 steaks) is well worth it, every single time. Hope you enjoy the recording, and looking forward to coming back! Download mix: https://atishmusic.lnk.to/nightfog Hi there, happy to share a new studio mix. This mix is inspired by the few weeks I just spent in San Francisco. My collab EP "Atman" with YokoO, is out now in stores and on streaming platforms: https://lnk.to/SATYA003 I don't release music often (it's been nearly 2 years since my Warbler EP!) so I'm feeling quite a bit of excitement and relief right now. This EP came together deep in the isolation of 2020. I had been working on some tunes off on my own and I sent dear Julien a whatsapp message with a playlist of what I'd been cooking. He felt inspired by the parts, and within a few weeks, we found ourselves with 3 originals perfect for his new Satya imprint. Also happy to have landed a remix from SEPP to round out this package. Absolute stormer of a groover which I think will move some dance floors. It's been a a real pleasure to collaborate with YokoO, and both as a friend and fellow artist, I'm glad we've been able to cross paths in this way. Hope you enjoy the music. Download mix: https://atishmusic.lnk.to/nothingandeverything Hard to believe it's been over a year since my last studio mix. A lot has happened since then, it's impossible to keep up. Yet at the same time I find myself frequently caught in moments of nothingness. This mix does very little, and it also does a lot. Some of it's stripped, groove-focused, and lazy. But it transitions into something dense, complex, and anxious. My goal was to have each track reach a bit further than the last, leaving the listener to wonder where the hell we're all going. Sign of the times, in many ways. Also happy to say this mix opens with a track from my upcoming collaboration EP with YokoO and another track from the release is a bit later in the mix. That EP comes out in a few days on YokoO's Satya label, and I'm quite proud of our work together on it. Hope you enjoy! Download Mix: https://atishmusic.lnk.to/atishallnightLA2019 Ahoy, happy to share this recording from the last Atish All Night LA in 2019. I fondly reflect on this event as the most fulfilling event I've ever produced and one of the best crowds I've played for as a DJ. I've been lucky to have a deep and growing relationship with the LA underground scene, and this all-night warehouse party in LA was a culmination of those experiences over the last decade. This recording is a 1.5 hr slice from 2019, and I think it touches on a few of the moods I like to go into: housey, driving, progressive, deep, stripped, and minimal. If you're in LA this weekend, I hope you can catch Atish All Night (outdoors). I've moved the event from the warehouse to an open-air ranch just outside the city. This is lining up to be something special, I hope you can join. Happy to share one of my most requested sets from my archive. This is back from 2018 on the Big Imagination 747 airplane at Burning Man. This was a set the ended up with quite a bit of drama, but overall it was a really special sunrise B2B with my brother-from-another-mother, Mark Slee. Always feels natural and easy playing with him. As a note, the public version on soundcloud is a snippet of the entire recording. If you'd like to hear the whole thing, it's available to my Patreon subscribers at https://www.patreon.com/atishmusic. Hope you enjoy! Happy to share this recording from the archives with you. This one is way back from 2014, recorded on the beach in Galle Sri Lanka. It was a beautiful scene with lovely people, and brought a smile to my face when reflecting back on some of my great moments on the road amidst this pandemic. This version is a 1 hour snippet from a longer set. If you'd like to hear the full version, along with a bunch of other unreleased recordings and tracks, you can give your support on my Patreon page at patreon.com/atishmusic Tracklist: http://bit.ly/atish-mar-mix-tracklist Hope you enjoy! Happy to release a new mix today. This one is an hour clip from a longer recording posted on my Patreon page. When people ask what's my favorite place (outside Burning Man) to DJ, The Bow in Buenos Aires is always in my top 3. Argentinians have a passion for music that I haven't seen anywhere else in the world (and really a passion for just about everything). Most track breakdowns are met with huge cheers, and even when the night ends, the crowd refuses to go home as they hang around after 6am demanding more music. It's really a DJ's dream. Another thing I love about The Bow is that it's a 3000 person club, but the DJ booth is pretty low to the ground and within arm's reach of the audience. The club has the perfect blend of energy and intimacy that holds a dear place in my heart. This is a recording from my 2017 set at The Bow. Once this pandemic ends, I desperately hope to play there again. It's a bit on the driving side, but takes a couple turns towards the deeper side to balance it out. Hope you enjoy! And if you'd like access to the full recording, you can check out my Patreon page, which already features exclusive sets from Badaboum in Paris, Desert Hearts, Atish All Night and more: patreon.com/atishmusic Tracklist: https://bit.ly/atish-dec-mix-tracklist Sign up for my mailer: bit.ly/atishmusic Big thanks to all my Patreon supporters, VIP tier and above: Alex Kremer, Darius, Darryll Fish, Drew Proud, Jarry Ahmad, John Carter, Justin Campbell, Michael Alahverdian, Michael Singleton, Rami Zeidan, Shah&Shah, Varun Parekh, Vincent Casanova - connect with me - facebook.com/atishmusic instagram.com/atishmusic @atish Check my latest gigs here: www.bandsintown.com/atish / bit.ly/atishsk
"Coco Buggy" is what my sister called a ladybug when she was a toddler. It's a quirky tune, with a borderline ridiculous organ solo that really makes the most sense at 6am at Kater Blau. So I'm joyed this tune found the perfect home and happy to support the club as all royalty payments contribute to keeping them open until club culture returns. 43 KATZEN TANZEN AUF'M TISCH curated by MIRA Buy: https://kioskid.bandcamp.com/album/43-katzen-tanzen-aufm-tisch-heinz-hopper-curated-by-mira Label: https://soundcloud.com/kioskid Sign up for my mailer: bit.ly/atishmusic Support on Patreon: patreon.com/atishmusic - connect with me - facebook.com/atishmusic instagram.com/atishmusic @atish Check my latest gigs here: www.bandsintown.com/atish / bit.ly/atishsk
