On April 3rd, 2003, 3 men robbed a check cashing store in Houston, TX, killing the clerk and the responding officer. When it comes to convictions, getting 2 out of 3 right is still very wrong, especially when the state knew it before trial. For this special episode, we talked with my friends Brian Stolarz and Dewayne Brown about their new documentary film on Netflix, The Innocence Files. The movie tells the story of Dewayne's wrongful conviction for a cop-killing in Houston, his ten plus years on death row, and Brian's legal struggle to free him. I'm fortunate to have these two as friends, and I hope you will check out their film. If you would like to help Dewayne while he awaits compensation from the State of Texas, HERE is the Go Fund Me to do so.

Death Penalty Information Center On the Issues Podcast Series
Alfred Dewayne Brown was wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in 2005 in Harris County, Texas, for the murder of a police officer. Brian Stolarz, attorney and author of the recent novel Grace and Justice on Death Row, represented Brown in his post-conviction appeals and, in 2015, won his freedom. In this podcast, Mr. Stolarz speaks with DPIC’s Robin Konrad about the legal issues in Brown’s case, discussing the culture of conviction and the prosecutorial misconduct that led to Brown’s wrongful conviction. Stolarz offers suggestions that he believes can help protect the innocent from wrongful convictions and death sentences.
Alfred Dewayne Brown was sent to death row in 2005 for a crime he didn't commit. The dedication of a Big Law associate, Brian Stolarz, to his pro bono representation of Brown helped exonerate him. The price Stolarz paid for the hours he put into the case cost him bonuses and the path to partnership. Stolarz, who wrote a book about his experience, Grace and Justice on Death Row, joins Josh Block and Casey Sullivan on the Big Law Business podcast. Jason Micheli speaks with Brian Stolarz and Dewayne Brown. Dewayne Brown was found guilty of the murder of a Houston police officer and sentenced to death. Brian Stolarz is a lawyer and member of Aldersgate UMC in Alexandria, VA, who took Brown's case on appeal. After years, a critical piece of evidence was found and Brown was exhonerated and freed. In this discussion sermon, they discuss the case with Rev. Jason Micheli and the unlikely friendship that formed between them.

For the Father's Day sermon, I sat down with my friend and congregant, Brian Stolarz, and the man he got off death row, Alfred Dewayne Brown, who is only the 13th exonoree from the state of Texas. Brian's and Alfred's story is told in Brian's forthcoming book, Grace and Justice. Check it out on Amazon.
To unpack what scripture means by 'righteousness' I invited my friend, Brian Stolarz, to share his experience of getting an innocent man off death row in Texas.
