Robert Hogans was convicted in Michigan in connection with the September 1990 abduction and killing of Pamela Kay Bandy. Bandy was abducted from a car wash in Pontiac, Michigan, and Hogans placed her in the trunk of her own Cadillac. He then drove around with her trapped inside for approximately six days. During that time, Bandy was unable to obtain adequate food or water and ultimately died from a combination of starvation, dehydration, and methanol poisoning after ingesting windshield-washer fluid. When Pontiac police stopped Hogans on September 24, 1990, on an unrelated outstanding warrant, they discovered Bandy's body in the trunk. Hogans was subsequently prosecuted and convicted separately for his role in Bandy's death. Robert Hogans is serving a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.Music licensed through Soundstripe. In today's episode, Brock Johnson breaks down how to beat the new Instagram Reels Jail and why skip rate is the baseline metric you need to understand first. He covers why likes aren't something to obsess over, since they mostly come from followers, most accounts have a relatively low follower count, and every non-follower viewing your content is technically a stranger, plus higher views usually bring more likes anyway. The real focus is shares, which represent views from non-followers and show up as sends per reach. He  gives the basic tip of directly asking for the share, but pairing that ask with a clear reason why or a specific person to send it to. Brock also walks through the SHARE method, simple, hook, authentic, relatable, entertaining, as a framework for building shareable content, and the TRIBE framework for what actually makes something shareworthy: timely content tied to breaking news or trends, relatable content that makes people feel seen, inspiring content that motivates, beckoning content that calls on the community to act, and edgy content built around hot takes or unpopular opinions. Corrections officers, police, firefighters, dispatchers, and veterans often carry stress that stacks up quietly over years: shift work, chronic hypervigilance, moral injury, and the constant exposure to trauma. In this conversation, Mike Marotta explains why so many first responders feel safest with coworkers yet struggle to let their guard down at home, even with the people who love them most. That gap can fuel isolation, relationship strain, and unhealthy coping strategies. For anyone searching for first responder mental health resources, PTSD support, or addiction treatment options, the key theme is simple: you do not leave these professions unscathed, and pretending you are fine usually makes the bill come due later.Mike Marotta is a former U.S. Air Force C-5 loadmaster and San Antonio police officer who helped build a department-wide wellness initiative before moving into behavioral health leadership at Warriors Heart. His story is honest about the slow drift many first responders recognize: shift work, accumulating trauma, family distance, and coping habits that quietly turn into a problem. We dig into what makes Warriors Heart a true fit for the first responder, corrections, and military communities, including correctional officers. It is a 42-day inpatient residential treatment program built for veterans, active duty, and public safety professionals, with no need to explain the culture. Mike explains the interrelated model that treats substance use disorder and co-occurring issues like PTSD and trauma at the same time, and why peer community is not a bonus feature; it is the backbone. “Connection is protection” is not a tagline here; it is a plan. You will also hear practical guidance you can use immediately: the warning signs that stress is turning dangerous (sleep, weight gain, anger, isolation, increased drinking, risky behavior), how to start a compassionate but direct conversation with a coworker, and what treatment really looks like day to day. We walk through structure, routines, the powerful Lifeline process, and how families and careers can change when someone comes back healthier and sober. If this hits close to home, share it with a partner, a squad mate, or a supervisor who needs better language for tough conversations, then subscribe and leave a review so more first responders can find real help.Contact Mike: mike.marotta@warriorsheart.com If you need help now - call (855) 610-1003Mike on LinkedIN - www.linkedin.com/in/mike-marotta-96607754Mike on FoxNews - https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/heroes-need-help-four-signs-first-responder-strugglingSend us Fan Mail Command PresenceBringing prisons and jails the training they deserve!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Episode 263 of the Transition Drill podcast explores military career transition and rebuilding your identity after service for veterans and first responders navigating the move into civilian life. You'll hear retired Navy Senior Chief Timothy Henderson on leaving behind nearly three decades in uniform, and what it takes to turn military experience into a meaningful next chapter.Tim grew up in Chicago's Cabrini-Green projects surrounded by gangs, drugs, and limited examples of what life could become. After losing both parents young, becoming a father as a teenager, getting into trouble, and nearly losing his direction, a judge pushed him toward a military recruiter. He joined the Navy in 1997.What began as one enlistment became a 27-year career. Tim went from an undesignated sailor to Gunner's Mate, serving aboard ships, in San Diego and Japan, with Naval Special Warfare, in training commands, and ultimately in senior leadership. Along the way, mentors changed how he viewed education, leadership, professional development, and preparing for the day the uniform came off.Tim didn't wait until retirement to think about what came next. He built relationships, developed his network, and lined up civilian work before leaving service. Still, employment didn't eliminate the challenge of separating Tim Henderson from Senior Chief Henderson.Today, he's a civilian department head at Navy Munitions Command while pursuing public speaking, mentoring, process-improvement consulting, and plans for a future business focused on ethical AI. His story shows why transition isn't simply finding another job. It's figuring out who you're becoming next.CONNECT WITH THE PODCAST:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/paulpantani/WEBSITE: https://www.transitiondrillpodcast.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulpantani/SIGN-UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER:https://transitiondrillpodcast.com/home#aboutQUESTIONS OR COMMENTS:paul@transitiondrillpodcast.comCHAPTERS0:00:00 — Intro: The Decision That Changed Everything0:00:46 — Growing Up in Cabrini-Green0:08:05 — Trouble, Loss, and Losing Direction0:10:51 — Fatherhood at Seventeen0:13:08 — A Judge Offers Another Path0:20:30 — Joining the Navy in 19970:28:44 — Reenlisting Before 9/110:30:43 — Finding His Calling as a Gunner's Mate0:35:13 — Going Home Changed His Perspective0:42:30 — Trouble in the Navy and a Second Chance0:44:34 — Stop Living for Other People0:47:24 — The Leaders Who Gave Him a Clean Slate0:50:31 — Earning His Way to SEAL Team One0:57:31 — Responsibility Changed the Sailor0:59:30 — Finally Making Navy Chief1:00:21 — Why He Stayed Beyond 20 Years1:04:52 — Education as Personal Growth1:11:32 — Preparing for Life After the Navy1:15:16 — When the Uniform Is No Longer You1:18:12 — Building the Next Mission1:23:36 — Your Transition Is Your Own1:26:27 — Outro: The Next Chapter BeginsSPONSORS:GRND Collective: Premium, veteran-owned sportswear built for those who show up, outwork the excuses, and give 100%. The state rested its case against Duane "Keffe D" Davis this week — and closed it out with Davis's own voice from a jail phone. This recap combines Wednesday's and Thursday's proceedings in the Keffe D murder trial, covering the two days that took the case from gang hierarchy testimony to a defendant's recorded words working against him. It started with retired Compton gang detective Robert Ladd, a two-decade veteran of the department's gang unit who tracked the South Side Compton Crips and told jurors the specific rank Davis held — the rank that determines who's giving orders and who's taking them. The defense maintains Davis fabricated his entire account of that night for a book deal. Tupac's childhood friend Malcolm Greenidge testified after him, describing where the shots actually came from that night and what Tupac had waiting for him before it ended: a label, an album, a meeting on the calendar with Quincy Jones. Crime scene analysts then broke down what a 2023 raid on Davis's Henderson home uncovered, from his own memoir to newspaper clippings about the murder he'd apparently held onto for years. By the time prosecutors finished with twenty-five witnesses over eight days, they closed on jail calls: Davis annoyed that his own statements were being used against him, Davis calling his book "the real truth" in a YouTube promotion, and one call where his characterization of Tupac lands directly on motive. The defense picks up next, calling a detective and two police officers first. Closing arguments are scheduled for Monday — and Davis still has to decide whether he testifies in his own case. Links & Legal: Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Twenty-five witnesses. Eight days. And the prosecution's last move in the Keffe D murder trial was letting the jury hear Duane Davis talk in his own voice — from jail. This recap combines Wednesday's and Thursday's testimony into the full picture of where the case against Davis stands heading into its final stretch. Testimony opened with retired Compton gang detective Robert Ladd, who worked the department's gang unit for years and tracked the South Side Compton Crips closely enough to tell the jury the exact rank Davis held inside the organization — and what that rank meant for who called the shots. The defense has argued Davis invented his role in the shooting entirely, for money. Then Tupac's childhood friend Malcolm Greenidge took the stand, describing where the gunfire came from that night and what Tupac was building in his final weeks: a label, a new album, a meeting already set with Quincy Jones. Crime scene analysts followed with an inventory of what a 2023 search of Davis's Henderson home produced, including his own book and newspaper clippings about the murder that had reportedly been kept for decades. Then prosecutors closed the door with the jail calls. Davis on a recorded line, frustrated that his own words were being turned into evidence. Davis on YouTube, calling his book "the real truth." And a separate call where the way Davis talked about Tupac lines up with the motive prosecutors have been building toward the whole trial. Next up: the defense calls its own witnesses, starting with a detective and two police officers. Closing arguments are set for Monday, and Davis has an overnight decision to make about whether he takes the stand in his own defense. Links & Legal: Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The last piece of evidence the jury heard was a recorded phone call from the man charged with orchestrating the shooting — speaking from jail on a line he knows is monitored. Before resting, prosecutors played Davis promoting his book as "the real truth" on YouTube. They played Davis explaining why Tupac deserved retaliation for the MGM Grand brawl. They played a jail call where Davis complained authorities were using his own words against him. Then came the call that ended the case — the one the fiction defense has to explain.Defense witnesses — a detective and two officers — are expected Thursday. Baker YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/cWcxRhzL0HY  On day 8 of the Keffe D trial, the prosecution presented synchronized courtroom footage of the defendant, Duane "Keefe D" Davis, mouthing words at Reggie Wright Jr, alongside clips from his promotional book interviews and jail calls. In these audio recordings, Davis can be heard complaining that his statements are being used against him, admitting to writing his book, and joking about making money that has "blood on it". Suge Knight was not called the stand. Following the state resting, the judge advised Davis of his constitutional right to testify or remain silent. The defense indicated they intend to call a few law enforcement witnesses the next day. This trial is about the murder of Tupac Shakur. Learn more about your ad choices. After Bryan Kohberger was arrested and transferred to Idaho, reports about his life behind bars painted a picture of an intensely controlled and isolated existence as he waited for a trial that ultimately never happened. He was housed at the Latah County Jail under heightened security, separated from much of the general inmate population and closely monitored because of the extraordinary attention surrounding the case. Accounts from people familiar with the jail described Kohberger as largely quiet, disciplined and routine-oriented, spending much of his time meeting with attorneys, reading, reviewing case material and navigating the restrictions that came with being one of the most notorious pretrial detainees in the country. There were also periodic reports and rumors about his behavior, interactions with staff, food preferences and conditions of confinement, but much of that information came through unnamed sources or secondhand accounts and had to be treated cautiously. What was clear was that his life had become extremely regimented, with virtually every movement controlled as his defense team prepared for what was expected to be one of the most closely watched murder trials in recent memory. That waiting period stretched on for more than two and a half years as Kohberger's attorneys fought over evidence, expert testimony, the death penalty, venue, discovery, genetic genealogy, cellphone records and numerous other issues that would have shaped the eventual trial. During that time, Kohberger remained incarcerated while the case grew increasingly complex and expensive, and the public continued to speculate about how he was handling confinement and whether the pressure of jail was affecting him. The trial, however, never arrived. In July 2025, Kohberger pleaded guilty to murdering Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin in exchange for prosecutors taking the death penalty off the table, bringing the long pretrial period to an abrupt end. What had been years of preparation for a courtroom showdown instead became a transition from pretrial detention to a life sentence, leaving those years in jail as the strange middle chapter between Kohberger's arrest and a trial the public had spent years expecting but would never see.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

In a sprawling prison in the Asir province of Southwestern Saudi Arabia, hundreds of young Ethiopian men are currently sitting on death row, not knowing when their name might be called and to be told that it's their turn. In the hope of getting their voices heard some of the prisoners managed to get hold of the phone number for the BBC's Tigrinya language service. One of the journalists working for the service is Aklilu Tsegay and he tells us what it was like to speak to those prisoners, sometimes multiple times a day, when reporting on the story. In India, July saw some of the biggest protests in the country for many years. The protesters were young people, particularly students, and they came together under an unusual symbol, the cockroach. They call themselves the Cockroach Janta Party or CJP, and they are demanding change to the education system in the country. Starting as an online joke a couple of months ago, the CJP is now one of India's most visible youth movements. Sumedha Paal reports for the BBC in India, and brings us the story. The Fifth Floor is at the heart of global storytelling on the BBC World Service, bringing you the best stories from journalists in the BBC's 43 language services. We're here to help you make sense of the stories making headlines around the world; to excite your curiosity and to get to grips with the facts. Recent episodes have investigated Russia's youth armies and how they make soldiers of Ukrainian children; featured the BBC team who were the first journalists to the site of the Nigerian school kidnappings and reflected the effects of internet blackouts in Iran, Uganda and India. If you want to know more about Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, and the legacy of Hugo Chavez; or how Vladimir Putin's network of deep cover spies operates; or why Donald Trump signed an executive order granting white South Africans asylum in the US, we have all those stories and more. This episode of The Documentary comes to you from The Fifth Floor, the show at the heart of global storytelling, with BBC journalists from all around the world.
