POPULARITY
This week I get further Zine focused as i get to sit down with Zine distro owner and founder of Phoenix zine fest Charissa Lucille. Charissa runs a zine distro in a physical location in Arizona a place which acts as a community space with the focus of being accessible and uplifting for the QTBIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled and chronically ill, neurodivergent within the area and farther afield!Charissa is an multimedia artist in their own right and setup Wasted Ink to fill a gap in the area which needed a cathartic and safe outlet for these communities. We obviously talk about our passions for Zines and how we ended up in the medium but also about the importance of keeping Zines accessible and how that is the route idea of the publications and how when you divert from that you lose some of the magic of the idea! You can find out more about Wasted ink and Charissa here:https://www.wizd-az.com/abouthttps://www.instagram.com/wastedinkzinedistro/https://www.facebook.com/wastedinkzinedistrohttps://www.charissalucille.com/aboutItuneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcreteYou can support the show and Graham by visitingwww.instagram.com/yellingatconcretewww.yellingatconcrete.bigcartel.comwww.ko-fi.com/yellingatconcrete See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Poets and Muses: We chat with poets about their inspirations
This week, Rosaura (https://www.instagram.com/palabras_bookstore/) and I (https://twitter.com/imogenarate) discuss our respective poems, "Rosaura Magaña" and "Confinement," the significance of a name and our American identities. If #RosauraMagaña rings a bell, that's because she and #PalabrasBookstore (https://www.facebook.com/Palabrasbookstore/) were recently featured in KJZZ's "Phoenix's Palabras Bilingual Bookstore Celebrates People Of Color"(http://kjzz.org/content/895476/phoenixs-palabras-bilingual-bookstore-celebrates-people-color). Come see us at the Heard Museum's Books | Beats | Bites event on May 11th (10a-4p): https://heard.org/event/second-saturdays-books-beats-bites/! Take a listen to also find out #poetryevents taking place in the valley during the week of April 29th. In this episode, Rachel and Jaye dive into the Phoenix zine scene and talk with Charissa Lucille of the Wasted Ink Zine Distro. They work together to figure out how to push past their fears of sharing their stories. “I’ve been diving into this more personal publishing. It is introspective. It is diving deep and kind of uncovering all the parts of me that I might not think are all that important or story-worthy, but there’s always another person that connects to those stories, and says, ‘oh, me too. I’d love to share this. I’d love to share this with other people.’” Also featuring special guest Zoe Sugg (zuzucartoons.com), the founder of They Have Issues. Hosts: Raina Bowers, Tiana Gaudioso, Rachel Bunning, and Jaye McAuliffe Producer and music composer: Jaye McAuliffe
This week I talk to the fantastic Charissa Lucille, creator of Fem Static Zine, owner and operator of Wasted Ink Zine Distro (WIZD), and organizer of Phx Zine Fest (coming up on October 22nd!). We talked a lot about zines, their place in society, art, and culture, as well as the struggles faced creating a business and movement in a place as sprawling as Phoenix quite clearly is, and the success that’s shone through along the way. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
