This is how Kelsier discovers the secret of Hemalurgy. In a conversation with Preservation, Kelsier gets a looks through the eyes of the God, and despairs at how close to the end they must be. But Preservation says there was a plan, and it's working. A lot of fun Cosmere lore questions are coming up as our book club reads it's way to the end of Mistborn Secret History. How does the orb shaped 'weapon' Kelsier has stolen from the Ire work? Who would win in a fight between Harmony and Odium? Is Harmony twice the god? Why is it that Sazed was able to take up the powers with out any assistance, but Kelsier needed the weapon? Join us as we discuss these questions and more each week by following the link to our Discord server. Kelsier is traveling through the cognitive realm, learning to bring peoples old ideas to life in his new dark world. He learns that his connection to Scadrial pulls on him, allowing him to use it as a compass in his search for the Ire. Using that 'compass' allows him to find the strange gathering of people who live in the lad of the dead (kinda, we'll explain as best we can). These are a VERY heavy couple of Cosmere mechanics chapters involving various Shards from multiple worlds, and people from those various places using different sorts of magics and investitures. We're in love. Moiraine hears some news from an innkeeper that implies there's a new false Dragon in Ghealdan. Until she realizes he misspoke, Perrin smells something akin to fear from her. The Pattern will only make room for ONE dragon, there should be no false Dragons after Rand proclaimed himself. Though, the man speaking about Dragons was actually talking about a prophet of the Dragon. Masema. Perrin feels restless, and with out having a plan, he wanders back out to the town square, where a nameless Aiel is hanging in a suspended cage. On impulse he decides to let the man free, and they have a conversation. Perrin tells Gaul where He Who Comes With the Dawn is. Faile is watching, although we don't find out until later. It isn't long before an alarm goes up in the town. The wild Aielman is loose. A dozen Whitecloaks come running to save everyone from this terrible threat. A dozen armed men fight a blacksmith with an ax, and an unarmed, wounded Aielman. In the end, a few of the Whitecloaks are still breathing where they lay on the ground. Siuan pays a visit to the young women while they're working in the kitchen. She creates a diversion in order to speak with Nynaeve; consult with her hounds. Sheriam has 'found' a dead grayman laying in her bed. We speculate on how and why it got there, probably an implied threat. Suian tells Nynaeve that she never sent Else with the message about the Black Ajah's belongings. Nynaeve and Siuan know their group is being manipulated, and will try to use that knowledge to their advantage. Siuan has money left in Nynaeve's room, and tells them to prepare to leave for Tear immediately. The hunt is on. Kelsier has been one of the most successful members of the underground in Luthadel, and he's gained a reputation. Surviving the Pits of Hathsin has only enhanced that reputation. We talk about the Pits, and why it's so important to the Lord Ruler that very few people no what goes on there, it's a secret kept even from his Inquisitors. Knowledge of Allomancy is also heavily restricted. We see that demonstrated in the conversations among Camon's crew. Kelsier's future crew slowly filters into the room to listen to Kelsier pitch the new job. This is our Ocean's Eleven chapter, where we meet the majority of our main characters through the series, and learn a bit about each of them. Mistborn Spoilers is a weekly book club. We know about rats and ravens, what about other small carrion eaters like mice? Egwene sees mouse tracks in a dusty room in the Tower, are the wards fading already? We talk about Lanfear constantly uses compulsion on the people around her. We think the the silver belt she's always wearing is an item of power. Nynaeve makes a crowbar out of Air to break a lock open, it says a lot about her character. Nynaeve is also a blunt instrument. The women are learning quickly from their surroundings, not to mention from each other. The possessions although they are probably planted by Lanfear are all the women have to go on. They decide to spring what is most certainly a trap. Egwene has had a whole menagerie of prophetic dreams. Don't panic! We'll discuss and interpret them all one by one. Else Grinwell arrives at Nynaeve's rooms where the three young women are going over their plans. Mat saw her on the way there in the last chapter. It isn't Else of course, it's Lanfear, there to feed the girls information under the guise of a message from the Amyrlin. “Else” tells the girls where the items left behind by the fleeing members of the black Ajah are being stored. When Egwene follows her to ask her a question, Else disappears around a corner. As Egwene comes around the bend, Lanfear is standing in front of her. Mask of Mirrors, compulsion, and deceit. While Rand waits for Ingtar to arrive, he catches “Selene” going through his bags. We speculate about why, but the crazy ex-girlfriend theory was most popular among our discord community. Lanfear wants Rand as her companion, to rule the world together, forever, and ever, and ever... Hurin spots Fain and his followers. “Selene” likely compels Rand to take Loial and scout the camp. “Remember the glory, Lord Rand”. Everything she wants, she gets. The void hides Rand from Fain's tracking ability, and in a daring maneuver Loial and Rand escape with the treasures pursued by trollocs and darkfriends in the night. Rand has a strange death wish moment, we think this has to due with the dagger's dark effect on his mind. Is the chest a stasis box. Will it protect the party from the dagger?
