In January, I asked people if they wanted to share any children's folklore as part of my February theme. As a branch of study, this largely refers to folklore created, shared, and maintained by children. Adults are not involved in its generation. So, contributors could share folklore they remembered from their childhood. Or they could share what they'd heard from children in their lives now. Most responses came from those sharing memories of childhood folklore, and broadly fell into three categories. As a result, this episode and the two that follow will use those categories. Urban Legends refers to the stories or urban legends that people shared. Games and Practices refers to things that people did. Monsters and Beliefs refer to (surprise, surprise) things people believed! In this episode, we'll explore some of the urban legends people heard and spread in their childhood. We'll also examine how they dovetail with wider patterns of such legends, where applicable!   Yorgos Dousos is a multi-instrumentalist and composer located in Athens. He plays flute and clarinet to combine Greek music tradition, European jazz, and ambient electronic into an inspired musical experience. I got to hear an advance copy of his latest album - LUPUS, Love Under Pain, Upon Suffering - I knew immediately that I had to reach out to Yorgos about a guest mix. And here it is! Here's what Yorgos has to say about this set: “Late Night” is a small map of where my head has been living while finishing my new record. It's the hour when things get quieter, when the room feels bigger than it is and every sound has more weight. I wanted this mix to sit in that space where breath, memory, and repetition start to blur. It opens with my own pieces (“Marisha” and “Breath” from "LUPUS, Love Under Pain, Upon Suffering") because that's the emotional ground I'm working from lately. All of the tracks orbit the same questions I'm dealing with on the album: what it means for sound to feel physical and intimate but also distant and ghosted; how much you can say emotionally with or without melody; and where the human breath sits inside electronics and processing. Day 20 Recap: Skull Fractures & Lexus Shards: How Prosecutors Are Proving She Hit John In today's Hidden Killers, we're breaking down what may be one of the most scientifically significant days yet in the trial of Karen Read. Day 20 delivered not just one, but two critical expert witnesses—each bringing their own piece of the puzzle that could influence how the jury understands the final hours of Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe's life. First, we heard from neurosurgeon Dr. Aizik Wolf, who laid out a blunt and clinical explanation of how O'Keefe died—and why the injuries don't line up with a violent beating. According to Wolf, the fracture at the base of O'Keefe's skull and the deep brain contusions point to one thing: a backward fall onto a hard surface. Not a bat. Not a hammer. A fall. He testified that the so-called “raccoon eyes” bruising around O'Keefe's eyes—which develops 1 to 3 hours after injury—suggest a delayed death, and possibly a delayed discovery. His testimony didn't just challenge assumptions—it dismantled them. And when the defense questioned his credentials, his answer cut through the courtroom like a scalpel: “I'm not a forensic pathologist. I'm a brain surgeon.” But the day didn't stop there.
