KATIE CROSS - BIOGRAPHY Katie Cross is ALL ABOUT writing epic magic and wild places. Creating new fantasy worlds is her jam. When she's not hiking or chasing her two littles through the Montana mountains, you can find her curled up reading a book or arguing with her husband over the best kind of sushi. Visit her at www.KatieCrossBooks.com for free short stories, extra savings on all her books (and some you can't buy on the retailers), and so much more. Mark McWaters has long been a fan of all things that go bump in the night, scratch at the door, or blow cold air on the back of your neck. From a very young age, he carried a pad and pencil around with him, composing poems to give to girls. He devoured all the Hardy Boys and Doc Savage books he could get his hands on and expanded his reading horizons from there. Robert Heinlein, Asimov, and Bradbury, whetted his appetite for Sci-Fi. Ann Rice's Interview With The Vampire blew his mind. A scene from Stephen King's Salem's Lot haunts him to this day. And Watcher by Dean Koontz made him a lifelong fan. He earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Became an award-winning advertising copywriter and creative director and earned enough Clios, Addys, and Communication Arts awards for bragging rights. As a writer, Mark discovered the Florida Writers Association, critique groups and writing competitions. He's won a steady stream of FWA Royal Palm Literary awards for his unpublished short stories and novels. The inspiration behind “Ghost Dog” came while reading entry rules for a magazine looking for unusual spins on traditional horror. Houses, people, dolls, even cars get haunted. So, he thought, why not dogs? Bentley, a West Highland White Terrier who sleeps under Mark's desk while he writes, agreed. The Contest, one of the most prestigious writing and illustrating competitions in the world, is currently in its 43rd year and is judged by some of the premier names in speculative fiction. The Writers of the Future Contest judges include, Tim Powers (author of On Stranger Tides), Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert (Dune prequel series), Robert J. Sawyer (The Oppenheimer Alternative), Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn series, The Stormlight Archive), Larry Niven (Ringworld), Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game), Nnedi Okorafor (Who Fears Death), Hugh Howey (Wool), and Katherine Kurtz (Deryni series) to name a few. The Illustrators of the Future Contest judges include, Bob Eggleton (11 Chesley Awards and 9 Hugo Awards), Larry Elmore (Dungeons & Dragons book covers), Echo Chernik (graphic designs for major corporations including Celestial Seasonings tea packaging), Rob Prior (art for Spawn, Heavy Metal comics and Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ciruelo (Eragon Coloring Book).

Then inadvertently wake an Ettin as Li'High communicates from the cliff that she wants K'thriss to join her. He tries to talk her down when another voice declares ownership of Li'High, and she disappears. The heroes do their best to track her to no avail. They decide to return and bury the corpse of Boros. Back at the caravan, Gunner notices one of the cultists recognizes him, and then points to a bracelet that a child has. Seemingly trying to start a problem, the cultists were let down as the heroes politely reclaim the bracelet and pay the travelers for it. That night, the cultists try to kill the party, but K'thriss informs on them, and the heroes overcome them. This does, however, create a problem. If they are known to be in the caravan still, the cultists might continue assassination attempts, alternatively, it also may blow up K'thriss' position. They decide to stay out of the caravan and follow to Witdel. Now at the town, a new hero joins the caravan, a Kagonesti paladin, a female gnome, and a male human with red tattoos he seems to be covering up on his head. This human joins the cultists caravan, and the gnome Jamna Gleamsilver offers to work with the heroes and the new Paladin, then a dead cultist body is found and the caravan, now under way to the next destination, is once again, in an upheaval. Jendri leads Gemwin, Grom, and Vindalf (Hokan is missing) to go talk to the Ironvein Duergar and explore a deeper level. Jendri offers Nimira and the other duergar some of the treasure they've gained, and they get a tour of the kitchens and the forge, which has a stream running into a deep chasm. Several of the duergar agree to hire on with the dwarves when they come back with a caravan in a few months, including the smith Snurriven and the alchemist Vorla. The party explores the chasm, first stopping on a ledge on the far side from the forge, where they discover a chimney with a rope and an escape bag. Delving into the chasm, they have a couple of close calls with Grom on the chain ladder. At the bottom, they discover another portion of the underground river, that leads to a dark lake with vines and algae. There they are suddenly attacked by a green dragon, who rises to breath poison on them before disappearing underwater again. They flee, but it breathes on them a few more times before they ascend the chasm to escape. Back up on the forge level, they recover, strategize, and offer a share of treasure to some of the duergar to help fight the dragon in its watery lair. Snurriven accidentally ruins Grom's new armor trying to repair it, and the party finds many situations in which Hokan would have been helpful.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! For our fourth Parleys at the Platter special, I invited Lauren Walsh, Mandi Quin, Britt Anderson, Katherine, and Hank "DnDoodles" to discuss the fundamental elements that make D&D work: Art & Creativity! If you've ever wondered how spiritual protection actually works—and why Jesus repeatedly cast out "unclean spirits"—this video is your playbook. We break down the most common protectors (dragons, guardian angels, hawks, shapeshifters, turtles, unicorns… yes, really), the attacks they're built to handle (infiltrators, walk-ins, remote strikes), and the modern hygiene you need to keep your energy sealed. Here's the deal: the more you understand the system, the less you fear it and the better your decisions become. What you'll learn: Why guardian angels are only the beginning—and which protectors extend range, block ambushes, or vault your gifts. How "infiltrators" cripple channels (and why calling on Jesus to expel them works). Walk-ins: what they really are, the red flags, and why discernment protects your future. The close-down protocol that actually holds (seal → boring buffer → re-seal). A quick history gut-check (Council of Nicaea) so you don't get spiritually duped this season. If this helps you, hit Subscribe and comment with the protector you think you might have—your question might be a future deep dive. Chapters 00:00 Cold Open — Why protectors (and the Christmas link) 00:33 Guardian Angels: sword-drawn first line of defense 01:36 Jesus' Ministry: casting out demons (why it still matters) 03:39 Darkness, growth & the obstacle that is the way 05:05 Protectors A–Z: Centipede (short-range neutralizer) 05:58 Dragon (remote attacker takedowns, inter-dimensional) 06:39 Eagle (extends protection range for your team) 07:00 Gorilla (hand-to-hand, loyal in dimensional pulls) 07:49 Attack Map: humans as the initiating vector 08:09 Stealing gifts, "egg" symbolism & scrambling abilities 10:09 Infiltrators: what they are & clearing with Jesus 11:09 System sabotage: unplugging channels & health impacts 11:52 Walk-ins: how takeovers really happen (and timelines) 13:46 Hostage dreams: original soul signals & patterns 15:18 More Protectors: Hawk (anti-ambush), Horse (source boost) 16:07 Pegasus (border bouncer), Raven (close-range interference) 16:54 Walk-in tradeoffs: "feeling powerful" vs being shaved down 18:52 Expelling spirits vs. re-invites (why some fall back) 19:28 Denial & familiars: two flavors of trouble 20:07 Advanced Protectors: evolved "Komodo," Shapeshifter, Turtle vault, Unicorn (fast reframe) 23:00 Bringing it back to Jesus & effective protection today 24:02 Council of Nicaea: dates, edits & discernment—don't get duped 26:12 Skepticism, guide-checks & your 2026 resolution

Enjoy a recent Podcast Interview I had the honor of doing with the Amazing Anika Jackson with the Your Brand Amplified Podcast, where we discussed Self-Mastery and Authentic Living. Check out Anika's Podcast below! Central to Dr. JC Doornick's philosophy is the belief that genuine success arises from a harmonious alignment between internal values and external actions. His own journey of transformation—moving from struggle and self-doubt to lasting change—demonstrates that lasting fulfillment begins with prioritizing both physical and mental health. By urging individuals to confront rather than avoid their fears, Dr. Doornick turns obstacles into catalysts for growth, nurturing resilience, authenticity, and compassion along the way. Through his frameworks and personal example, he illustrates that personal and professional breakthroughs require self-awareness, kindness, and persistent action. His focus is not merely on external accomplishments but on cultivating an environment where individuals are equipped to realize their potential, create meaningful impact, and enjoy a life anchored in purpose. For those ready to engage more deeply with these transformative concepts, follow Dr. JC Doornick's Makes Sense Podcast or subscribe to his Substack at https://drjcdoornick.substack.com. In this episode of the Game Deflators podcast, hosts Jon and Ryan dive into their latest game pickups, including the cult favorite Sky Gunner and a stack of retro gaming books. They also share fresh updates from their Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, highlighting new character arcs, unexpected encounters, and the chaos their parties have stirred up. From there, the conversation shifts to their favorite games of the year—what stood out, what fell short, and which titles earned a spot on their personal lists. To wrap things up, they take on another round of the inflation‑deflation challenge, this time putting the holiday oddity Daze Before Christmas under scrutiny to see whether its current market price is naughty or nice. 00:00 Introduction to the Game Inflators Podcast 02:17 Game Pickups and Recent Acquisitions 06:21 Dungeons & Dragons Updates and Campaign Recaps 12:18 Homebrewing D&D Campaigns and Storytelling Techniques 18:14 The Role of AI in Game Mastering 26:06 Game Reviews and Recommendations 28:40 The Plucky Squire: A Charming Adventure 30:59 Games of the Year: A Reflection on Favorites 40:39 Looking Ahead: New Games Resolutions 47:29 Elder Gamers: A 92-Year-Old Champion 51:59 Magic: The Gathering's New Casual Format 56:42 Exploring Days Before Christmas Game 01:03:21 The Lack of Christmas Games 01:10:05 Looking Ahead to New Year's Games Want more Game Deflators content? Lauren Salter and former Wales internationals Gareth Delve and Richie Rees reflect on the weekend's United Rugby Championship results including another win for the Dragons and a derby victory for Scarlets. Dragons climbed off the bottom of the table with a remarkable 48-28 victory over Connacht, ending a 15-month winless streak in the URC. Meanwhile, Scarlets won the first Welsh derby of the festive season after beating Cardiff 21-17 at the Arms Park, but Ospreys suffered a 26-10 defeat at home to Munster, meaning they'll be bottom of the league at Christmas.

In the 80s and early 90s, Social Workers seized kids from council estates, convinced they were victims of ritual Satanic abuse. Meanwhile, America was well and truly possessed — decoding devilish messages in rock music and warning that Dungeons & Dragons was a gateway to hell.

After a long hiatus from live, human-voiced podcasting, Chris Abraham returns with the unofficial kickoff to a new season of The Chris Abraham Show. Call it Season 10, or just call it “one more than whatever came before.” This episode is less a formal broadcast and more a fireside check-in. No hot takes yet. No grand thesis. Just Uncle Chris catching up, taking inventory, and letting listeners back into the workshop.Chris opens by reflecting on a year spent experimenting with AI-assisted writing and audio. Substacks fed into NotebookLM. Podcasts assembled more like orchestration than performance. He likens himself to a Renaissance painter running a studio: sketch the idea, let the assistants fill in the canvas, then obsessively revise until it feels true enough to sign. It sparked conversations, which felt like a win, even if the whole thing occasionally resembled “DJ Slop.”From there, the episode turns personal. One week post-second ablation, Chris reports that his heart is finally humming along in sinus rhythm after a long struggle with atrial fibrillation. The first procedure failed and took the wind out of his sails, contributing to weight gain, lethargy, and a general retreat from movement. This time feels different. Better sleep. BiPAP nights. The cautious hope of eventually shedding some medications. The slow return to walking, cycling, kettlebells, and the familiar ritual of getting back in the saddle, literally and figuratively.Fitness and body discipline weave through the episode, including a rueful confession: Chris once tattooed a kettlebell on his hand as a motivational Hail Mary… and then promptly stopped lifting. Future tattoo ideas may include a Concept2 logo and the muted horn from The Crying of Lot 49, because symbolism apparently works better than guilt.Work life is steadier. SEO, Google Business Profile recoveries, and AI-adjacent consulting are keeping the lights on. But the real joy lately lives in the nerd margins. Chris dives deep into decentralized systems, inspired by Ghost in the Shell, particularly the sentient blue tanks that sync their “souls” to a server. That idea metastasized into a home-rolled infrastructure project: seven identical Lenovo ThinkPads running Linux Mint, all synchronized via a cloud droplet using Syncthing. Not a backup. A living sync mesh. Every laptop a node. Every document everywhere. That fascination with nodes and meshes extends into the physical world via Meshtastic. Chris recently deployed a LoRa-based radio node, ABRA (short for Abracadabra), hanging from an eighth-floor Arlington window, quietly strengthening a local, license-free mesh network. No voices. No feeds. Just short messages hopping node to node, old-school and strangely comforting. It's part prepper tech, part early-internet nostalgia, part philosophical itch scratched.Elsewhere in the ecosystem: Mastodon survives for now at abraham.su, rescued at the last minute despite the .su clock ticking toward 2030. Micro.blog joins the stack under chrisa.micro.blog and ChrisA.org. Digital homesteading continues.Chris also shares the unexpected joy of joining a long-running Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Curse of Strahd, playing a stubborn Eldritch Knight named Radley, refusing to read the manual, and delighting in chaos alongside a group of grizzled old nerds on Discord. Dice are rolled. Plans go sideways. Everyone survives, mostly. The episode closes with quieter notes: a growing devotion to the Gospels, nightly Episcopal Compline prayers, the simple rhythm of rereading rather than rushing ahead. A Powerball ticket purchased. Gym plans deferred. Kettlebells waiting. A rowing machine sulking upright in the corner. This isn't a manifesto. It's a temperature check. A reintroduction. Uncle Chris is back, heart steadier, systems syncing, curiosity intact, and ready to spend the rest of the year talking through the small things before returning to the big ones.

Próximo programa: Star Wars Stories / Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3.
Three tries in the final 20 minutes dressed up the scoreboard in Rodney Parade on Saturday (20th December 2025). However, Connacht still suffered a humiliating defeat to the Dragons, who picked up their first win in this season's BKT United Rugby Championship. Sean Jansen's try salvaged a bonus point for the visitors to Wales, thanks to earlier five-pointers from Sam Gilbert and a Cian Prendergast brace. Galway Bay FM's match commentary team were Rob Murphy and William Davies. == Connacht's next game is at home to Ulster in the BKT URC next Saturday (27th December). Kick-off at Dexcom Stadium is 5.30pm.
