Sponsored by feedback, we've got some! Our A-team rebels listen to the voice in their heads and storm Lord Ruler's palace. They confront Vin and her steward in exploring the estate and explore a secret chamber filled with strange and powerful things. How will their story end? Who will succumb to the ultimate power and who will make a sacrifice? (The Knitting Club's conclusion episodes may or may not follow after this one, depending on how well we organise everything)
Sponsored by debasement, in vogue in every collapsing empire! Our A-team rebels put their secret plans for their stolen minting dies into motion. Everything descends into chaos. Rumours of Kalsier being back and having discovered a new metal that can kill Lord Ruler circulate. The group decides to take some drugs, I mean metals, in hopes of finding out the secret to ultimate power…
Sponsored by Congenials Minus Congenials, whops we did it again! Sorry listeners, our recording got messed up. Our GM cuts out soon, Katelyn follows soon after, and only M is left to interject into the silence. So it's another Garfield Minus Garfield episode, except we have Odie to narrate… So anyway, our Knitting Club witnesses Calcier's duel with the Lord Ruler! Then despite the curfew being announced, you can't stop the noble parties, that would just be rude. So our rebels go for a tea party and playdate at house Erikell. Windslorp plays duelling canes with little Ladrian, while Mildred gossips with the lady of the house.
Sponsored by the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, a joke in 2005, an aspirational reality for corporations in 2020s Our A-team rebels witness some more public executions by Lord Ruler and finally, the ultimate showdown between Kalsier and the Lord Ruler himself! Then after a drunken bender our rebels start planning for their next big score…
Following on from the last episode on Jordan Peterson's brilliant 2005 essay on "Peacemaking" this time we look at what went wrong and at JBP's arc as that of the classical tragic hero. And having a bit of fun with this we compare him to the villain in one of my favourite fantasy series Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. We look at Aristotle's definition of tragedy, and at mapovers between Peterson and Mistborn's Lord Ruler and also Dune's Paul Atreides. ____________________
Sponsored by chatty babies, you were one too! Our rebels continue their exploits in the masquerade ball. Turns out it's easy to hdie when everyone has something to hide. They also get to see their BBEG, the Lord Ruler…
Sponsored by hard magic systems, Mistborn is one of them Welcome to our new series of the Mistborn Adventure Game! This episode is all about character creation, with the game proper starting next week! The game takes place around the start of Book 1. The rebellion against Lord Ruler exists, but it's small and not well organised. Every player in our group will have two characters since the setting and the system can be quite deadly. Our would-be rebels include: - Austin as Lord Malach Wardwick, an Iron Lurcher, and Falkenar (Falks) the Pewter Thug - Dylan as Nagash Thorn (Nag) the Brass Soother, and Adelaide Vori (Ada) the Copper Smoker - Tyler as Zar Edmond (Red) the Steel Coinshot, and Tyden Arana, a bounty hunter
Well, Alondo hates TenSoon, poor Marsh, and we learn more about the Lord Ruler's past! Enjoy!
It's the final showdown! Vin has a dramatic entrance into the glass room at Kredik Shaw as she confronts the Lord Roler. She does her best to stop him, but the eleventh metal isn't as helpful as she first thought, and the Lord Ruler is extremely powerful. Thankfully, Marsh makes his triumphant return, though he has been changed into an Inquisitor, and together, he and Vin defeat the Lord Ruler. Sazed helps them in their final moments, and a new dawn rises over the ruins of the Final Empire. Elend is made King, and Vin finally gets what she has always wanted. -- Thank You to Our Sponsors: Audible free trial (for USA listeners) available at: audibletrial.com/fanbookspod -- Website: www.fantasticbookspod.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/fantasticbookspod (or follow @fantasticbookspod) Facebook: www.facebook.com/fantasticbookspod Shop: www.etsy.com/shop/FantasticBooksPod -- Published by Goldenrise Media. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fantasticbooks/message
Vin is in enemy territory as she makes her way to Kredik Shaw to confront the Lord Ruler. While there, she makes many discoveries, including what is in the room she and Kelsier attempted to break into, what happened to Reen, the conflict and politics of the Steel Ministry, what happens when you burn the 11th metal, and, most importantly, what happens when you finally learn to trust. Both Sazed and Elend come to her aid, but the final battle will be between Vin herself and the man who calls himself the Lord Ruler. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/esquirlas-del-cosmere/message

We are into the great Sander-lanche, everybody. This is not a drill! Kelsier has his great battle and defeats a steel inquisitor to then fall to the Lord Ruler himself. Vin, Kelsier, and crew face one of their biggest losses yet: the Steel Inquisitor's killing of Marsh. Kelsier has now lost his wife and brother, so he decides to hit the Lord Ruler where it will hurt the most. He destroys the Pits of Hathsin, but the Lord Ruler counters by capturing Lord Renoux and Spook and bringing them to Luthadel for execution. The crew is riled to save their friends, and Kelsier now has to face a Steel Inquisitor in a one-on-one battle. -- Thank You to Our Sponsors: Audible free trial (for USA listeners) available at: audibletrial.com/fanbookspod -- Website: www.fantasticbookspod.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/fantasticbookspod (or follow @fantasticbookspod) Facebook: www.facebook.com/fantasticbookspod Shop: www.etsy.com/shop/FantasticBooksPod -- Published by Goldenrise Media. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fantasticbooks/message

Kelsier and friends go from waging a house war to visiting a great house for Vin's first ball! She is in awe of the splendor that House Venture has to offer and even meets the heir to the house, Elend Venture. Although Vin doesn't know it yet, we can see the seeds of love growing between her and Elend already. After her fun evening, Vin sneaks out and follows Kelsier back to Luthadel via the allomantic highway. She finally gets a taste of Atium before she and Kelsier sneak into Kredik Shaw to see what the Lord Ruler has in his stores. Tune in next week for I'm Sorry Here's a Plasma Rifle by Aaron N. This month we read and review Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson! Like all of our reviews, the first part is spoiler free. Here's a little about Mistborn: The Final EmpireFor a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison. Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark.Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Then Kelsier reveals his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot. But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets. She will have to learn trust if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.Brandon Sanderson, fantasy's newest master tale-spinner and author of the acclaimed debut Elantris, dares to turn a genre on its head by asking a simple question: What if the prophesied hero failed to defeat the Dark Lord? The answer will be found in the Misborn Trilogy, a saga of surprises that begins with the book in your hands. Fantasy will never be the same again. Episode Notes When we study Jesus' life in the Scripture he appears as many things, he is a shepherd carrying for his sheep, a vintner growing and tending his vine, a creator bringing things into existence, a teacher showing the way, a miracle worker setting people free, a destroyer of death, a redeemer who offers his life to pay the price of our salvation and deliverance from enslavement to the enemy. He is certainly all of these things and more. The first clear apostolic proclamation to the world was: JESUS IS LORD!
The Lord Ruler's casual cruelty is on full display in this chapter, giving our favorite thieving crew a cold dose of reality. They are once again forced to decide if they are willing to risk everything to take down the Final Empire.

Ash rains from the sky and the evil Lord Ruler reigns. So it's almost as bad as 2020 was. This week we're reading Mistborn: The Final Empire. Will this fantasy heist book steal our hearts? Or will it just be ashes?
Kelsier, the man, the myth, the drama llama. In this episode, we meet the rest of the crew and Kelsier explains his ideas for taking down the Final Empire and the Lord Ruler.
Hello all! Here is part 1 of our discussion on Mistborn Book 2: The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson. It is awesome to see how our crew of thieves is handling the fall of the empire, the absence of a "Lord Ruler," and a lot of Atium crazed nobles knocking on the door. The Skaa have risen, Vin is a legend, and Elend Venture is trying to lead. This is truly a fun series to discuss. Enjoy! Tensions grow higher as the crew begins to have doubts about Kelsier's true motivations, but those doubts are quickly washed away as they see how committed he actually is. In this episode, Vin attends her second ball and Kelsier has a night on the town. It's kind of like when other people have a night on the town, only with more corpses. Meanwhile, we talk about how open the Lord Ruler is to societal critiques, also possums, and finally Elend. Oh, this guy. Is Elend Venture a devious spy for the Lord Ruler or a hapless fool? Were his books evidence of a clever ruse or reckless overconfidence? Everyone has their own theory about it on this week's episode of The Sanderlanche!
This week, a dip into Scadriel to discuss the interesting parallels between two of the biggest players in the Mistborn series (spoilers for ALL of Mistborn, including Secret History). We read Alendi's final journal entry before he is murdered in his sleep by Rashek. While Vin attacks the Lord Ruler, (Inquisitor) Marsh murders a group of unsuspecting Inquisitors while they have their back turned by pulling out a specific spike in their backs. Marsh thinks he can kill the Lord Ruler by removing the correct spike like the Inquisitors, but Rashek built that flaw into his tools on purpose, and of course never gave himself the same one. We'll spend a little time talking about how the Lord Ruler did indeed save the world, and why what Vin is about to do dooms it. Check out this episode, we'll read the ending to you, and discuss what we'll be doing next. This week on Shardcast we are done with Roshar. Take that, Roshar, it's time for Scadrial's time in the sun. (Get it? Because they are closer to the sun in Era 1. Hah, jokes.) Anyway, we are talking about one of the most interesting things on Scadrial: the Lord Ruler! We're talking about his character and history, and we'll talk in detail about his powers next week. We talk about the Ascension A LOT, get derailed from talking about the subjugation of Terris, and of course, get annoyed thinking about the Lord Ruler's kids. Today we have Eric (Chaos, who talks way too much in this), Matt (Comatose, and his video is terribly laggy), and Grace (thegatorgirl, who unfortunately has to deal with these two Lord Ruler nerds blab). The crew returns to Clubs' shop. After watching the Lord Ruler's retaliatory mass executions, the group feels a renewed sense of purpose. The only way the crew can achieve it's goals now that the rebel army is lost, is to ensure that the separate segments of Rashek's government use their resources killing each other. Kelsier's House war is now even more important than it was before. Vin and Kelsier also receive some very important information from their mole in the Ministry, Marsh. Vin is still recovering from a two week long hangover. That day long petwer drag with Kelsier nearly killed her. Kel seems to think that's a good thing; that she'll be stronger because of it. The crew has as a short conversation about whether or not to continue with their plan now that their army is dead, but before they can finish, Spook rushes in with news. The people of Luthadel are gathering in it's main square. There is only one reason the people gather like that; it's mandatory to watch the Lord Ruler's mass executions. Kelsier uses the event to re-envigor his crew's sense of purpose. THIS IS WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING AGAINST. Vin has become an accepted member of the nobility, her absence or attendance to social events is noticed. She has regular “dates” and although she's playing everyone around her, we'll learn later that some of the other ball attendees are playing a similar game. The Lady Kliss for example, as we find out later is a political informant as well. Vin has been spending time with this truly detestable group and we're pretty happy knowing that later, the most repugnant of them is killed by Vin herself. She has a confrontational moment with Elend as Vin grapples with some of the terrible injustice's of the Lord Ruler's world. Namely, rampant sex slavery in the Final Empire, and the dominance of one “race” over another. Later, Vin makes Kelsier promise not to murder Elend. She believes that even this vile noble society can be redeemed. Vin and Sazed have a long and informative conversation about Feruchemy, the Keepers, and the history of the Terris people since the ascension of the Lord Ruler. It's an eye-opener for Vin. Sazed speculates on why Rashek never simply wiped the Terris people out of existence. We of course, know exactly why. The two spend some time talking about Dox's past, the man he has become, and his role in the crew. Slavery and classism in general is one of the more important themes in the Mistborn series, and the personal backstories of the majority of Kel's crew highlight that fact. Alendi was the man set to release the power from the well, before Rashek killed him and took it for himself. The Lord Ruler defeated Ruin in a way, or did he? Vin is recovering from her stab wound during her encounter with an inquisitor at Kredik Shaw. We believe that the only reason Kelsier allowed Vin to come is due to Ruin's influence on his slightly mad mind. Upon returning from her sickbed in Luthadel to Mansion Renoux. Vin believes Sazed must be an Allomancer, in her mind that is the only way he could have defeated an inquisitor, and rescued her from near death at Kredik Shaw. Boy, does she have a lot to learn. Sazed drops some knowledge on us about keepers, the Lord Ruler's breeding program, feruchemy, and the history of the Terris people since Rashek's rise to power.
Vin and Kelsier approach Kredik Shaw in the night. Is the Lord Ruler's palace made of metal to hide what's inside of it from the eyes of Ruin? We explain compounding; the method of combing allomancy and feruchemy that Rashek uses to obtain immortality. Also, we spend a little time explaining how Kelsier got caught in Kredik Shaw the first time. Mare did not betray the small party in the way everyone thinks. As the two Mistborn enter the palace, they're confronted by multiple groups of soldiers in a series of bad ass action scenes. None of them survive the encounter, and Kel reassures Vin that they are justified in killing Skaa soldiers. We'll talk a bit about Kelsier's strange moral compass. As our heroes walk into the inner sanctum of the Lord Ruler and his religion, they are confronted again, but this time by Steel Inquisitors. Kelsier and Vin flee in different directions, two chase Kel, and one pursues Vin. Eventually a fatally injured Vin crash-lands on a rooftop. Unbeknownst to her, Sazed has been following her and comes to her rescue. He lands on top of a Steel Inquisitor shattering it's bones, and carries Vin to safety with incredible Feruchemically enhanced strength and speed. Don't worry, we'll read all the awesome action scenes to you. Thanks for downloading.
Sazed is concerned about the exchange between Vin and Elend, and questions her thoroughly. Despite Sazed's warnings, Vin is looking forward to seeing him again. Lord Renoux talks about meeting Elend many years ago, well before Oreseur became Renoux. We'll discuss how the Kandra may have gotten that information, and how Kandra society and law works in general. Kelsier heads out into the night on a mysterious mission, and the ever curious Vin follows. She discovers the Allomantic highway, and quickly works out how to jump from bronze spike to bronze spike. Upon reaching Luthadel, Kelsier discovers Vin. With the understanding that he won't be able to prevent her from following, Kelsier gives Vin a new lesson in Allomancy. Atium, and it's uses. Hell-bent on uncovering the secrets of the Lord Ruler, Kelsier heads toward Kredik Shaw, with his Skaa Mistborn Apprentice in tow.
We Welcome our friend JF140/Cody, to come talk with us about The Final Empire, Chapter 12. We'll talk about Kelsier's hate and borderline insanity, Vin's growing comfort with her new thief friends, how Kelsier plans to use Vin to help him destroy the empire of the Lord Ruler, and how close the Rashek might have been to FIXING the flawed world he created. What might have happened if Vin hadn't broken into his house and murdered him? Kelsier and Vin have started sparring to improve the newly discovered Mistborn's skills. It's been several months, and Vin has progressed quickly. When the two Mistborn return to Mansion Renoux, Sazed informs Vin that she'll be having her hair cut. She hates it, but Sazed and Kelsier agree that this will be crucial for her impersonation of a 'lady'. Sazed tells us about Trell, an ancient god, that the Lord Ruler tried to wipe out any knowledge of. We'll learn much more about this character in Mistborn Era 2, which leads us to believe that there was at least some factual basis in the ancient story Sazed tells us in this scene. We know Sazed's study of human religion and history turns out to be critical later when he's reshaping the world. But why did he choose this path of subverting the Lord Ruler in the first place? Kel realizes through a conversation with Saz that the best way to continue Vin's training is to send her to is Misting friends, to study each individual metal. Kelsier is training Vin, and the opening of this chapter is Vin's very first steelpush/jump. She is not successful in clearing the battlements of Luthadel. Kelsier pulls her to the top, and tells her to jump back off or wait for the city guard and explain to them how she got there. Not much of choice at all. Vin botches her landing as well, nearly breaking her neck in the fall. Kel wants vin to make her mistakes now, while he's there to help. While the two walk along the outside of the city's walls, Vin encounters her first mistwraith, we'll have a discussion about mistwraiths, kandras, the relationship between the two, and how they were created by the Lord Ruler. Not to mention the other genetic manipulation Rashek used to create the Scadrial in it's current form. Not even the humans escaped tampering. This time on Shardcast we are talking about all the weird things in the cosmere that were mentioned just a few times and forgot. Like Vax. We also discuss Senna, Lutha, Reya, a lot of Threnody, and a lot of Scadrial. Oh, and a lot of me complaining about the Lord Ruler's kids, because it doesn't make sense. But just know: Vax is the answer to all your questions. Where's the kandra worldhopper? Vax. Where's Vivenna? Vax. How's Stormlight 4 coming along? It's on Vax. Easy. This week we have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), David (Windrunner) who is less croaky this week, and Grace (gatorgirl). Also, Murderation. Marsh confronts Kelsier about the level of violence has already committed. Essentially questioning whether or not Kelsier's leadership is an improvement on leadership in it's current form. Do his ends justify the means? although, Marsh eventually consents to return and debate Kelsier's plan further. We discuss why their aren't more people like Kelsier in the Final Empire, and the Lord Ruler's methods for suppressing rebellion. Ruin speaks to Vin through her earring at an opportune moment, just before she receives her first Mistcloak, and Kelsier begins her first night of training. Vin is already familiar with some of the Allomantic metals, but not all. She begins to learn new concepts, like flaring metals, how savants are created, the dangers inherent in that, and the limits or lack thereof to the powers of a Mistborn. As Kelsier walks Vin through the basic Allomantic metals, she gains fresh and important understanding. Kelsier has been one of the most successful members of the underground in Luthadel, and he's gained a reputation. Surviving the Pits of Hathsin has only enhanced that reputation. We talk about the Pits, and why it's so important to the Lord Ruler that very few people no what goes on there, it's a secret kept even from his Inquisitors. Knowledge of Allomancy is also heavily restricted. We see that demonstrated in the conversations among Camon's crew. Kelsier's future crew slowly filters into the room to listen to Kelsier pitch the new job. This is our Ocean's Eleven chapter, where we meet the majority of our main characters through the series, and learn a bit about each of them. Mistborn Spoilers is a weekly book club. When you are governed by a Lord Ruler who has turned the world into a cult of the person and a complete dictatorship, you crave some change! This is what Kelsier felt when he gathered a group of thieves to overthrow the present government. If they succeed, this will mean a new world order, a new life, especially for the oppressed skaa, the workers. But it will also mean a whole new world of trouble. Mistborns, allomancers, Terrispeople, kandra, koloss, mists, ashes, Brandon Sanderson has created a rich universe in which his three dimensional characters evolve and grow. A delightful yet multi-layered read! Not your average Medieval Fantasy. This one is much better!
