For Part 2 of Lavay and Chris's episode, they'll talk about an unusual business meeting they had, the time they played for Bill Clinton's Saxophone Club, and the time in 1992 when they went to see Solomon Burke at Slim's. Lavay will share the story of the Swing for Choice benefit show she did with Ledisi, and she'll lament further on how San Francisco nightclubs used to be run. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, click here. That's it for Storied: San Francisco in 2017. Thanks so much for listening and helping to spread the word. We have a lot of great new things planned for 2018, so please stay tuned. Happy New Year!

Lavay Smith and Chris Siebert have been making music in San Francisco for more than 20 years. Their band, Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, plays all around the Bay Area all the time. Chris and Lavay also do regular gigs at the Royal Cuckoo Lounge every Sunday. For this podcast, part one of two, Chris and Lavay discuss how the band got started, the SF music scene of the late-1980s, and some interesting experiences they've had in nightclub basements. We recorded at Royal Cuckoo in November 2017. Check back Thursday for Part 2.

We couldn’t believe our luck when Chris Seibert first proposed the idea of bringing in Lavay Smith & her Red Hot Skillet Lickers. It’s only once in a blue moon that you get to have one of the top voices in jazz & blues come record at your studio! Lavay brought in a all star cast of bay area musicians including some serious horn players (listen to Mike Olmos’ fantastic trumpet solos). We’re excited wrap up our first season with this great band of bay area legends, and we look forward to what’s in store for the new year!
