Send us a text"A heart out of rhythm has a way of revealing a life out of rhythm." Guided by insights from Tom Rosshirt's Chasing Peace: A Story of Breakdowns, Breakthroughs, and the Spiritual Power of Neuroscience, we explore the connection between breakdowns and breakthroughs. We talk plainly about the difference between happiness tied to outcomes and peace rooted in a state of mind, and we practice language that helps dissolve the ego without erasing identity. From breathwork and boundaries to nervous system care, prayer, and honest community, this conversation offers practical routes back to rest—rest that isn't a day off but a daily way of being. We also return to a theme close to my heart: honoring maternal presence as a powerful, often untapped force inside families, churches, and communities. When we mother across ages—biologically or spiritually—we model repair, stability, and hope. My prayer, as I head into a procedure to restore sinus rhythm, is simple: that our hearts would find a God-breathed rhythm, and that our lives would beat with grace, peace, and love. Explore the new site: www.drjohnwprice.com Join us in The Open Gate: https://www.drjohnwprice.com/the-open-gate-lt In this solo episode, I explore what it means to build a rhythm of spiritual practice—not as an escape from life, but as a way of showing up for it. I draw from my background growing up in a socially engaged religious community, my years as a psychotherapist, and the long process of returning to a deeper, embodied spirituality. We'll look at the difference between outer ritual and inner transformation, between spiritual performance and real participation. Along the way, I weave in ideas from Jungian psychology, the necessity of emotional honesty, and the quiet work of remembering the sacred within ordinary life. This conversation is about developing a living rhythm, a pattern written in the soul, that keeps us connected to meaning, community, and presence. Key Themes Spiritual practice is both an inner path and a shared human process. Rhythm matters more than perfection. Emotional experiences—grief, fear, longing—are not obstacles; they are initiations. Nature and everyday ritual reawaken a sense of belonging and presence. Community, teaching, and discipline form the architecture of a spiritual life. Sega is no stranger to the arcade rhythm games but they really hit their stride with their Performai series of games. So scan your Aime card, select your song, and let's play the game that literally translates to “pre-teen kids who think they're cooler than they are playing a rhythm game” - Chunithm. What is it about Chunithm that makes it so addictive? Do you really need gloves to play? Was Adam a part of any other bands? Why does Chunithm have a penguin mascot? We teach our co-hosts about a non-arcade interest that we have (or at least talk about what it would be) and discuss which arcade character would be our podcast understudy. In our latest episode, we explore the enchanting world of fairies and nature spirits with my friend Sally, who shares her captivating stories of profound experiences on Dartmoor. As she recounts her journey, listeners are invited to discover the mystical connections between humanity and the little beings that inhabit our natural world.Sally, an experienced dowser, now in her 80s, has believed in fairies throughout her life. She recalls sensing their presence at the bottom of her garden and describes how humanity has, in many ways, driven these magical creatures underground. Throughout the episode, Sally shares remarkable experiences, including moments of deep emotional healing facilitated by the fairies and nature spirits around her.One particularly moving story involves a moment by the river on Dartmoor, where Sally describes being invited to sit on a granite chair that seemed to appear just for her. As she closed her eyes, she began to see tiny beings flitting around her, working to untangle fine threads in her aura and restoring her emotional balance. This experience left her feeling deeply honoured and grateful, highlighting the profound impact nature can have on our well-being. Check out episode 1 - Rhythm of the Universe where I share my guest Stevie's encounter with a Rose fairy who offered healing via fine, spider web-like, tendrils. Sally could never find the stone chair again, which led her to question whether she had momentarily been transported into an alternative reality – listen to Ep 36, Whisked Away by the Fae – where my guest Emma shares her experience of stumbling into a strange place that she could never locate afterwards, despite searching. We discuss the importance of respecting and honouring these nature spirits. Behind every physical manifestation lies a spirit, and the fairy realm plays a vital role in this interconnected web of life. Sally emphasises that we often forget to show gratitude to these beings, who contribute to our healing and our connection to the earth.Listeners will be captivated by Sally's tales of communicating with trees and exploring the subtle realms of nature. She shares her experiences of dowsing and how it has helped her connect with Earth's energies, leading to a deeper understanding of the world around her. The episode serves as a poignant reminder of the magic present in our everyday lives, encouraging us to slow down, listen, and appreciate the beauty of nature.Join us for this magical episode, which celebrates the connection between humanity and the fairy realm. Whether you're a believer in the little beings or simply curious about the spiritual aspects of nature, this conversation will inspire you to explore the magic that surrounds us. Homily Title: Reconstructing Spirituality: From Guilt to Growth While many of the ideas and practices handed down to us about God and the church may have shifted, there is something about Jesus we still find compellingly beautiful. Often, after letting go of what wasn't working, we struggle to find a way forward that shapes our lives to mirror the Beloved Community of God. Our Fall Vision series, Reconstructing Rhythms, begins with Christopher Mack inviting us to consider the practice of Rhythm of Life as a way of allowing the simple seed of God's kin-dom in our lives and world to become a vibrant, yet surprisingly great shrub. [Mark 4:30-32] Reflection What preconceptions about how God is supposed to work today might actually prevent you and others from growing in God's Love? Do you sense a distraction you might lay down or change your relationship with over the next month? Is there an area in your life where you wish to take a simple step for the next month in the hope of experiencing growth? A sonic thrill ride for fans of guitar music, guitar hero/composer LYLE WORKMAN's new album — called Rhythm and Leads Guitar — is a captivating instrumental odyssey no guitarist should miss. Step into Lyle's studio with me, and we'll plug in some guitars with him and dive deep into his new record and much more — including his blazing solos with Bourgeois Tagg back in the '80s; his new, custom Stan Cotey-modded EVH head; and even some cool pedalboards. And yes: Lyle is a highly accomplished film composer, so if you want to immerse yourself in that realm (including learning how he created soundtracks to hit movies such as “SuperBad” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”), be sure to go back and listen to Lyle's FIRST appearance on this show, which was on Ep. 110 of No Guitar Is Safe (back in 2020). "Episode 74: Autumn's Invitation to Release: Learning to Let Go and Trust God's Rhythms" Welcome to October!
Are you feeling the push of pressure in your leadership journey? Maybe you're in a season of rising momentum, or perhaps things feel quieter than you'd like. Either way—you're not alone. In today's episode, we explore the natural rhythm of growth through the metaphor of ocean waves—rising and falling, cresting and retreating. As mission-driven leaders, we often either downplay our highs by raising the bar too quickly, never pausing to celebrate or sink into self-doubt when things slow down, believing imposter syndrome's lie that we're not enough. The truth is, both pressure and release are essential. Just like the tide, growth requires a balance of both. Here's what you'll discover in this conversation: Why pressure isn't the enemy—it's part of the natural cycle of growth How to celebrate wins without immediately shifting the benchmark higher What to remember when you're in a low season and imposter syndrome creeps in Why balance doesn't diminish ambition—it sustains it How to close out the year with intention, without slipping into guilt or frantic hustle Whether you're an executive leader or an entrepreneur, this episode is a reminder that your growth is not a straight line—it's a rhythm. And when you honor that rhythm, you can lead with presence, purpose, and heart. Take this as your permission slip to celebrate, soften, and trust the wave you're riding right now.
Tonight we celebrated the anniversaries of two albums: the Ramones "Too Tough to Die" and Circle Jerks "Group Sex," both released on October 1st, forty-plus years ago. I also announced the winners of the giveaways from RNRM777, and played all kinds of other great music, too.
We speak with Caroline Levine, Ryan Professor of the Humanities in the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell University, about her important book The Activist Humanist: Form and Method in the Climate Crisis(Princeton University Press, 2023). Building on the theory developed in her award-winning book, Forms: Whole, Rhythm, Hierarchy, Network, Levine's The Activist Humanist redirects the critical capacities of formalist literary study to discover and mobilize the democratic potential of political forms thought by many on the left to be irredeemably exclusive, violent, and anti-democratic. Countering scholars in the environmental humanities who embrace only “modest gestures of care”—and who seem to have moved directly to “mourning” our inevitable environmental losses—Levine argues that large-scale, practical environmental activism should be integral to humanists' work. For Levine, humanists have the tools–and the responsibility–to mobilize political power to tackle climate change. We speak with Levine at length about this project in an effort to move beyond critical gestures of dissolution and toward an activist formalism that moves constructively between politics and aesthetics.See the Doughnut Economics Action Lab website for more information about the upcoming screening of Finding the Money mentioned in the audio introduction.Visit our Patreon page here: https://www.patreon.com/MoLsuperstructureMusic by Nahneen Kula: www.nahneenkula.com* Thank you to Robert Rusch for the episode graphic, Nahneen Kula for the theme tune, and Thomas Chaplin for the transcript.
