Hey AudioTicklers, it's a been a while, but thanks for listening regardless! I'm back with a listen and review of episode 5 of the singer. No big surprises in the final ranking, but Liu Huan killed it again. The new 2019 season of the Chinese variety/singing competition Singer (formerly known as I am a Singer) has begun and I react to the full episode, the performances and the subjective final first rankings. In order of performance, this season's singers are Wu Tsiang Fong (吳青峰) – Bird’s Nest (燕窝) Melanie Zhang (张芯) – Khan Mountain (可汗山) Escape Plan – Ten Thousand Hurts (一万次悲伤) Kristian Kostov – Beautiful Mess Yang Kun (杨坤) – I Am Even More Lonely Than Before (我比以前更寂寞) Chyi Yu (齐豫) – Most loved (最爱) Liu Huan (刘欢) – Night (夜) My favorite performances were those from Liu Huan, Yang Kun, and Melanie Zhang (Zhang Xin) who I expected to take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively. Those who judged did not agree apparently. Will you? Check out the episode or skim through (for the performances and take a listen) and let me know what you think.
弯弯的月亮 or the Crescent Moon is one of the representatives of mandarin pop music in 1990s. The poetic lyrics depict a beautiful picture of the moon, the river, the boat, the girl and the hometown. Both the composer Li Haiying and the singer Liu Huan came to prominence after releasing the song, which is what we are going to learn in this episode.
