Dan also holds a Master's degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT), which helps to teach adaptive life skills to those dealing with vision loss. Keep Pushing is a non-profit that combines Dan's two passions by introducing the blind/visually impaired (VI) community to the inclusive culture of skateboarding. Through his own journey with vision loss, Dan has found the lack of accessibility in current skateparks. The goal of his foundation is to build the first fully adaptive skatepark and to host skateboard workshops for the blind and VI using what he has learned on the skateboard and through his VRT training. Dan has teamed up with an experienced skatepark design company, New Line. Using New Line's design expertise and Dan's knowledge of adaptive skating to create the safest and most accessible skate park ever! Using adaptive methods, such as increasing the size of obstacles, adding contrast to obstacles, tactile ground, auditory cues for echolocation, 3-D models, and a spacious layout. Once the facility is built Dan plans to host monthly skate workshops and skateboard lessons for local youth/adults who are blind and VI, annual adaptive contests to help push for skateboarding the Paralympics, as well as use park adaptations to influence future public skateparks.

I speak with Dr. Matt Squiot, veteran emergency medicine physician, musician, husband, father, outdoor enthusiast about his early years struggling to get into medical school, and then dealing with sudden personal tragedy as he began his emergency medicine residency. How do you begin your medical career and achieve your life's goal when your tank is already empty? Matt shares his insights about how he kept pushing the pedals, but also learned to seek light and joy as he navigated the crucible of working on the front lines of the emergency department.

Whether you have 4 weeks or 4 days left of the year, it is not time to stop pushing and acting on your goals. In this episode of Ask Me Bernadette, I am asking a question I get a lot this time of year - What can I still be doing to close the year out with a bang, when everyone else is winding down?First off, that's a myth. December is an awesome month to close business, find a job, secure a raise or promotion and much more.In this episode we discuss:- What both corporate and entrepreneur professionals should focus on as they close out the year- The opportunities that still are out there to bring in new business, get a job, and much more- The activities leaders, HR managers, and customers are doing themselves this time of year- How the 'potential' for a recession is not an excuse to stop pushing- Steps you can take beyond work to close the year out with a bangWhat questions came up for you during this discussion?
