This powerful exploration challenges us to examine whether we've walked away from faith unnecessarily by rejecting distorted versions of God rather than God himself. We're invited to consider six common childhood versions of faith that many of us inherited: Safety Net God who promises bad things won't happen to good people, On-Demand God who always answers our prayers exactly as we want, Hype God whose presence depends on our emotional experiences, Guilt God who controls through fear and shame, Anti-Science God who pits faith against reason, and Gap God who only exists in what we can't explain. The message draws from Peter's instruction to always be prepared to give a reason for our hope with gentleness and respect, and Jesus's own words that in this world we will have trouble. We're reminded of John the Baptist's story, a man of extraordinary faith who still doubted in prison, showing us that even the greatest believers struggle when reality doesn't match their expectations. The central invitation is to reconsider whether the God we stopped believing in ever actually existed in the first place, and whether there's room to rediscover a more robust, intellectually honest faith that can withstand adult questions and real-world suffering. The Main Idea: The gods we abandon usually never existed to begin with. The Jesus we left was too fragile to be of much help anyway. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are an alternative to church as usual. Our Sunday worship service is approximately a 75-minute experience designed to introduce people to the message of Jesus and equip believers to live their lives in response to the Gospel while their kids enjoy one of our safe children's environments. Centerpoint is designed to meet you wherever you are on the journey whether you are just checking out the "church thing" or you are a committed Christ follower. Centerpoint is a casual environment that combines today's music with creative media and relevant teaching. We hope you will visit us at Centerpoint Church regardless of what your past church experience has looked like.
In this message from the series Is God Good?, Rusty George addresses the challenging question many people face: if God is good and great, why do bad things happen? He acknowledges that many of us grow up believing in certain versions of God that don't hold up when we face real-life struggles, such as suffering or unanswered prayers. Rusty explores the false images of God, like the "Bodyguard God," the "On-Demand God," and the "Guilt God," and encourages us to let go of these misconceptions. Instead, he invites us to seek the true God revealed in Jesus, who walks with us through our doubts and struggles, even when life doesn't go as we expect. Through humor and heartfelt reflection, Rusty reminds us that while life's challenges can make us question God's goodness, faith is about trusting God's presence in the midst of it all. Pastor Zach wraps up our series, Sketchy Views of God, this week. We dissect the view of God as an "On-Demand God" - we expect God to perform for us whenever we need it and are frustrated when he doesn't do what we ask. Jesus gives us the script for how we should approach God when we need him.
Pastor James Trip from Motion Church shares a word about "On Demand God".
On-Demand God, the God who responds to fair and selfless requests the way we would; like a genie in a bottle, does not exist. While we have permission to ask God to ask God for anything, God has the right to say “no” to our requests. God my not give us what we ask for, but he will give us what we need: sustaining grace.
It's easy to make assumptions about who God is when we only see Him in the wrong light. When you ask questions like… “WHO MADE GOD?” Or “WHO IS GOD?” are you talking about God, or your own version of Him? This is ON-DEMAND GOD with Pastor Brett Esslinger EngageChurch.ca

On-Demand God does not exist
Wouldn’t it be great if God always answered our prayers just the way we wanted as soon as we asked? We want our entertainment on demand, but when it comes to God, the concept just doesn’t work. In this message, Pastor Adam unpacks the truth that God doesn’t exist to serve us, we exist to […] The post I Want to Believe, But… On-Demand God appeared first on Mount Hermon UB.
Ever wish that God was more like your media consumption devices, that is On-Demand delivering what you want, when you want it? Some of our biggest struggles comes when things happen that shake us up either personally or collectively like the recent hurricanes. We may wonder where God is in the midst of the storms, yet the good news is that we don't need to wonder in the silence but instead be assured of the God who has Revealed himself to us in the person and work of Jesus and in the pages of scripture where we find a God who is way better than an On-Demand God who always grants us our wishes.
