The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
This episode flips the script. Instead of Larry hosting, Marc Hildebrand, one of the top coaches in the Dad Edge Business Brotherhood, a 20-year LAPD veteran, life coach, and founder of Modern Leadership, sits Larry down and interviews him. The jumping-off point is a hard statistic: most men are lonely, and the majority don't have a single friend they could call at 3am. Larry opens up about the mastermind that changed his life eleven years ago, the "cost of doing nothing" question that got him to say yes, the BRAVE MAN system his Boardroom runs on, and the August 2017 morning his wife told him he was losing her. If you're a man who's surrounded by people but still feels alone, or a business owner pouring everything into work while the rest of your life drifts, this one is a roadmap. Timeline Summary [1:02] – The loneliness statistic and why Larry isn't surprised it's that high [3:17] – Marc introduces Larry and the role-reversal format [7:04] – The first mastermind eleven years ago and mentor Aaron Walker [8:45] – Rusty relationships and why "fine, good, busy" keeps men shallow [10:03] – The $500-a-month invitation that sounded like snake oil [11:55] – The question that changed everything: the cost of doing nothing [13:45] – Sitting with the chills, imagining life a year out, and calling back in 12 minutes [16:24] – What pulled Larry to lean in instead of talking himself out of it [19:03] – "Show me your calendar and I'll show you what's important to you" [22:59] – Why it's never the business, it's the person running the business [25:41] – The BRAVE MAN system explained category by category [29:53] – Why the room, not just the strategies, is what gets men to change [30:52] – The black belt lesson: that's when the training actually begins [35:02] – Attracting your wife back to you instead of chasing [36:22] – The August 2017 morning Jessica said "you're losing me" [40:30] – Masculine and feminine energy, and helping your wife soften [44:11] – Inside the quarterly Goal Setting Intensive [47:19] – Why the Boardroom is only 20-25% about business [50:26] – Living an "and" life instead of an "or" life [52:36] – The Dad Edge core values, read in full for the first time [58:04] – Who the room is for, and how to join the intensive 5 Key Takeaways The Cost of Doing Nothing — When weighing an investment in yourself, the real question isn't the price. It's what your life looks like a year from now if you change nothing at all. It's Never the Business — Entrepreneurs blame the business for their disconnection, burnout, and lost health. The hidden truth is that it's the person running the business, and reactivity is the pattern to break. Attract, Don't Chase — Chasing your spouse reads as needy, desperate energy. Leading from a grounded, positive masculine presence lets her soften and pulls her back toward you. Set "And" Goals, Not "Or" Goals — You don't have to choose between growing your business and connecting with your family. The right question is how one could actually strengthen the other. The Room Is the Gold — Skills and strategies matter, but transformation happens in a room of trusted men who share wins in detail, hold public accountability, and call each other forward. If the "cost of doing nothing" question landed for you the way it landed for Larry, don't let it sit. Send us Fan MailThe Five-Dollar Horse by Ellen FeldA boy, a horse, and an impossible dream...When the school bully started teasing Drew Anderson, the young boy found solace riding his mother's old horse, Rusty. Whether spending time grooming the horse or galloping through the pasture, Drew found that the stresses of school and the constant bullying faded when he was with Rusty. When it was time to retire Rusty, however, Drew felt lost without a horse to ride. That was until he heard about a national essay contest where the first prize was a horse! When the call came informing Drew that he had won the writing contest, he was thrilled to meet his new horse, Rimfire, a beautiful young Morgan. Together, they learned about trail riding, bumblebees, and snowstorms. Entering the show ring, Rimfire carried Drew to many blue ribbons, and that's when he heard about the Morgan Grand National, the pinnacle event of the Morgan show world. Drew dreamed of making a victory pass at the Grand National on his beloved horse, but as time went by, it seemed unlikely they would ever have the chance to compete at the prestigious show. Would Drew and Rimfire ever make it to the biggest show in the Morgan world? And what about that victory pass?Based on a true story, The Five-Dollar Horse proves that no dream is impossible if you work hard and never stop believing. https://www.willowbendpublishing.com/shop/p/the-five-dollar-horseMy Show Strides Activity Book by Piper Klemm and Rennie DyballShow Strides readers, this book is for you. It’s not that long since we spoke to the great man on the pod! Back in July 1980, he was part of a 500cc Grand Prix-winning team in Belgium with a young Randy Mamola. It was Randy’s first premier-class victory and the first of many for JB. Graziano Rossi was in that same race. Years later, JB would become crew chief for his son, Valentino, who became one of the sport’s all-time greats, a rider synonymous with the number 46. Recorded in 2018, less than an hour from Adelaide (which will call the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix home in 2027), JB looks back over his stellar career, and the convo is a gem. The Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer talks about working with the legendary Mick Doohan and helping to develop the iconic Honda 500cc GP bike. Plus, there are recollections of a flashpoint in the rivalry between Valentino and Casey Stoner, as well as stories of his move with Rossi to Yamaha and the frustrations at Ducati. What if one terrifying 911 call was only the beginning of a much larger mystery? Tony Merkel welcomes Rusty from Carolina Case Files to reveal the chilling investigation that thrust his team into the center of one of the internet's most unsettling paranormal stories. As their conversation unfolds, they uncover eerie witness accounts that point toward a hidden reality lurking in the forests of North Carolina, where credible eyewitnesses continue to report encounters that defy explanation. The discussion expands into Dogman sightings, translucent entities from military testimonies, and the biblical framework that may explain why these encounters are happening. Along the way, they wrestle with the dangers of chasing the supernatural and why discernment is essential for anyone seeking the truth. If these encounters are more than folklore, the greatest question may not be what these beings are, but what they reveal about the unseen spiritual battle unfolding around us.If you're able, consider helping the Merkel family with medical expenses by donating to Lindsay's GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/b8f76890

There are so many stories in our sport…not just those that take home the silverware.Trevor Sheumack has been a bit of a constant for decades in various forms of Motorsport but his story isn’t limited to just Australia. His likeable nature and co-do approach to things saw him land roles with teams in Europe off the back of engineering his own cars at home. Learning valuable business lessons (outside of Motorsport) in his early 20’s that are still relevant now to being spellbound by rally cars in country NSW as a kid.Hitchhiking stories in the UK as well as memories of the old Ford factory on Parramatta Road in Sydney. And putting it on the line for a karting spectacular at the Entertainment Centre. Is glyphosate really safe? What happens if it's banned? Is modern American farming under attack? This week on Talk Dirt To Me, we're joined in studio by Tennessee State Representative Rusty Grills and Tennessee Soybean Promotion Council Executive Director Stefan Maupin for one of our most candid and hard-hitting conversations yet. We kick things off by tackling an issue that rarely makes headlines but is costing farmers millions every year: deer damage to crops. As urban sprawl continues to expand, exploding deer populations are creating a growing crisis for row crop farmers across Tennessee and the United States. Then we dive headfirst into the biggest controversy in agriculture today: glyphosate. We break down the recent Supreme Court ruling involving Bayer/Monsanto, what the decision actually means, and answer the questions everyone is asking: • Is glyphosate safe? • Could modern agriculture survive without glyphosate? • What would food prices and crop production look like if it were banned? • If glyphosate is outlawed, what's next? • Is the MAHA movement helping farmers or hurting them? We also discuss the growing divide between farmers and consumers, why it feels like agriculture is now taking criticism from every direction, and what farmers can do to better tell their story. Finally, we examine the influence of major voices like Shawn Ryan and Joe Rogan, discussing what happens when massive platforms amplify critics of modern farming and how the agricultural community should respond. Whether you're a farmer, rancher, policymaker, or simply someone who wants to understand where your food comes from, this is a conversation you won't want to miss.
