Shantell starts by discussing the Foundation's biggest fundraising event on June 3rd, "Talent In The Park". Jared shares stories of his experience as the event's Emcee the previous year (2022). Shantell shares with listeners about the sudden & devastating loss of her brother Shannon who struggled with substance abuse & depression for a number of years. She shares the last conversation with her brother by reading their exchanged text messages, Shantell made her brother a promise to get him help if he is willing. Shantell finishes this episode by reflecting on how healing it is for her to be able to carry on her brother's memory & fulfilling the promise she made to him over three thousand times within their community. For my 50th episode of the Get the F*ck Off Podcast, I could not be more excited to have interviewed Shannon J. Curtin, self-improvement and productivity junkie with a passion for encouraging her creative students to set huge goals and relish every rejection.Shannon is a poet, essayist, humor writer, and novelist whose work has been featured in The New Yorker, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, Reader's Digest, Scary Mommy, Points in Case, AARP, and other publications. What's equally as impressive is she's a full-time Mommy of two little kids, she works full time, and still manages to write constantly, teach courses, and she just recently launched her first online course Finding the 25th Hour.If you're someone who struggles with time management (my favorite topic,) you're going to want to listen to this episode. Shannon talks about the strategies she uses to create lots of time in her days.I mentioned rejection in my last episode of the podcast, so it was serendipitous that this conversation with Shannon followed this week. One of her favorite topics is relishing in rejection, and why rejection is such a good thing. We talk about process goals, finding joy in the process, and a big one: priorities. We also talk about the difference between the growth mindset and the fixed mindset, and what a growth mindset really feels like. I also share my own personal story of shifting from the fixed mindset to the growth mindset, and what that looked like.Shannon also gives some really amazing, helpful advice for a person who is feeling stuck, and in search of their “why.” Are you feeling like you don't have hobbies or passion? Shannon has a solution for you. This was such a fun interview and I enjoyed having Shannon on the show so very much. You can find Shannon at shannonjcurtin.com, where you can also find her new digital course Finding the 25th Hour.
