In the latest riveting episode of We Do Recover with Jared Miller, hosts Counselor Jared Miller and Doctor Terry Sellers delve into a pressing issue that's been making headlines: the alarming rise in overdose deaths linked to Kratom. Episode 145, aptly titled "Deadly Kratom," is an eye-opening, informative, and deeply concerning discussion. This episode centers around two pivotal news articles that have recently shone a light on the dark side of Kratom use. The first, published by The Washington Post on February 20th, 2024, carries the harrowing title, "They take kratom to ease pain or anxiety. Sometimes, death follows." The second piece, a detailed investigation by the Tampa Bay Times from December 7th, 2023, echoes similar sentiments, revealing the shocking lack of regulation, inconsistent dosing instructions, and often undisclosed ingredients found in Kratom products. What makes Kratom so dangerous? As Jared and Terry expertly explain, it combines its unregulated nature and the public's lack of knowledge about its potential risks. Users seeking relief from pain or anxiety turn to Kratom, unaware of the fine line between its use and misuse, which can lead to fatal overdoses. The episode doesn't just highlight the problem; it also sparks an important conversation about the need for better regulation, education, and awareness regarding natural supplements like Kratom. With their engaging discussion, Jared and Terry shed light on the critical system gaps that allow such tragedies to occur. If you've ever considered using Kratom for its supposed health benefits, or if you're just interested in the complexities of substance use and regulation, "Deadly Kratom" is an episode you cannot afford to miss. Prepare to be captivated, informed, and perhaps even a bit alarmed as you dive into the depths of this significant health issue. Listen to Episode 145 of We Do Recover with Jared Miller now, and join the conversation on how we can all play a part in preventing future tragedies linked to Kratom and similar substances. This is more than just a podcast episode; it's a wake-up call to the dangers lurking in the unregulated corners of the supplement market. Don't miss it!

The search engine robots might say by the way you're doing it right but that doesn't necessarily mean you're doing it right it means you've managed to move needles that the robots say are important. Are you converting? Is it turning into money and at the end of the machine and so uh I think a lot of folks kind of miss that point and there's a lot of art there believe it or not and I'm sure you experienced this in determining whether or not the needles you've moved are actually the right needles to even look at I mean they they they people are focused on KPIs that are outdated sometimes and don't make sense.21:54 - Like oh yeah I can get you you know 200,000 views on YouTube, okay are they good views? Oh well are they in your target market? Are there people you know? And we run into it too in the podcast space it's like oh yeah I want you know, I want to be Joe Rogan. Does Joe Rogan's audience represent your ideal client and if that's the case you know maybe we can talk about how that might happen but for the vast majority of the businesses out there it really just doesn't make sense and you have to have to determine that.42:12 - They are the most important thing in your world. Treat them as such. Be it a place where you can respect that relationship more than anything else. Your spouse, your children your parents your sisters your friends your chosen family, and your family you're going to respect that. Be at a place that understands that team. Don't put it in a position where they're going to drop it and then look at them and say no you dropped the baton, no you ensure their success take care of them. And I'd say the last thing is relationships have to be partnerships if a client thinks of you as a partner and not a vendor you've done everything that we talked about today.13:37 - If you think you can do it alone you're a fool. If you're the smartest person in the room get out of that room, surround yourself with smarter wonderful people who have a proven track record people I've worked with in the past people I adore We call ourselves the TFA Avengers.15:33 - So the challenge has been I put to them we took two and a half years and I said all right guys let's look at the numbers here, I mean not bad considering like we were brand new right but I use up my Rolodex more or less. Kind of went through it now so we did some email marketing we dropped it out and we did some podcasting for a couple of things some content. I try to write my own LinkedIn's and we have social and it's all there but when I look at the numbers I go okay if I were my own client what would I say. The results aren't there so here's what we're doing, we are rebranding and repositioning still called That Funny Agency. I'm not changing that we are still powered by humor we're still in concept who we are but I brought in even better people to do this job who've done this before. In this riveting episode of We Do Recover with Jared Miller, episode 136 takes a deep dive into the intricate world of drug testing, featuring guest Anthony Provenza, a former laboratory scientist and current regional director for Precision Diagnostics. Provenza, alongside host Dr. Terry Sellers and counselor Jared Miller, unravels the complex details of urinalysis testing, a pivotal tool in the modern era of substance abuse treatment. The episode begins with a candid discussion about the murky past of drug screening, highlighting the "bad players" of over a decade ago who exploited drug testing for financial gain. Host Jared Miller articulates how these practices cast a shadow over the substance abuse treatment industry, metaphorically giving it a "black eye." As the conversation progresses, the trio delves into the technical nuances of drug testing methods. They compare the simpler point-of-cup or screening tests with the more advanced spectrometer lab-processed confirmation testing. With the advent of cutting-edge technology, they explain how providers can now obtain detailed reports of a patient's substance consumption, measured precisely down to nanograms per milliliter. The episode reaches its climax in the final twenty-five minutes, as the discussion pivots to the critical role of urinalysis in maintaining responsibility and accountability in treatment providers and pain clinic prescribers. The hosts and guest emphasize the importance of distinguishing between appropriate substance use and inappropriate substance abuse in patient care. This episode not only sheds light on the technicalities of drug testing but also underscores its significance in the realm of substance abuse treatment. It's a must-listen for anyone interested in the interplay of science, ethics, and healthcare in addressing addiction and recovery. In this moving episode, counselor Jared Miller sits down with the indomitable Matt Blanchard. Matt's journey is one of heartache, resilience, and redemption. From the life-altering accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down to the darkest corners of his mind contemplating the permanence of his paralysis and battling suicidal thoughts, Matt's narrative takes listeners on an emotional roller coaster. One of the most harrowing aspects of Matt's story is his descent into opiate addiction. Initially seeking refuge from the physical and emotional torment, he became ensnared by the tight grip of Oxycontin. It wasn't until his daughter's painful realization and intervention that Matt recognized the slow poison of opioids coursing through him. But Matt's story isn't just one of adversity; it's also one of hope and rebirth. His poignant account of the struggle to put on socks for the first time post-accident is symbolic of the broader challenges many face. It's a powerful reminder that everyone, at some point, needs help "putting their socks on." Matt Blanchard epitomizes the human spirit's ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. His message? With enough willingness, paths to recovery will unfold before you. This episode is not just a testimony to Matt's resilience but a beacon of hope for all those facing their darkest hours. We hope you enjoy this episode! Paco has had quite the journey, starting his life in California, where he first encountered mind-altering substances as a means to cope with childhood traumas. At just ten years old, he discovered the alluring escape of a stolen cigarette from his father, a path that led him to experiment with more potent substances over time. By the age of 21, Paco found himself in the firm grip of methamphetamine addiction. Seeking a fresh start, Paco set off to join his brother in Ogden, Utah, but a twist of fate stranded him in St George, Utah, instead. It was there he landed a job as a maintenance man at Motel 6. Paco's old habits, however, followed him to Utah, and he soon found himself facing multiple charges of drug possession and the prospect of a 10-year prison sentence. Choosing to take control of his life, Paco entered drug court and successfully completed the program. He credits the Southern Utah recovery community for being instrumental in helping him transform his life. Today, Paco is a beacon of hope and recovery. With multiple years of recovery under his belt, he is happily married to his wife, Kristy, and is a respected member of the Southern Utah community. In this episode, we discuss the difference between social, experimental, or recreational substance use versus physical dependency, otherwise known as addiction. Paco's story serves as a potent testament that change is indeed possible, inspiring those who are grappling with their own battles and assuring them that it's never too late to take a stand for a healthier, more fulfilling life. He remembers taking his first drink of alcohol in his early teenage years. He shares that a few years later he started smoking marijuana occasionally. David shares, "Towards the end, I would use anything I could get my hands on". He shares that after doing drug court three times & multiple treatment attempt failures, he made a two-year commitment to attend the John Volken Academy in Seattle, Washington. CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC ALERT! This episode starts off with a disclaimer that its views & opinions expressed during this episode do not directly reflect its sponsorships. There is currently a proposed bill in the Utah legislation (SB200), to legalize the production & use of Psilocybin (in a controlled medical setting) for the treatment of GAD, MDD, SI, PTSD, & OCD. State Senator Luz Escamilla is spearheading bill SB200, which has recently been tabled for a future vote. Hosts Doctor Terry Sellers & counselor Jared Miller, start by establishing a "baseline" or history of Psilocybin's drug category & current FDA schedule-1 classification. They move into discussing a news article doctor Sellers recently published in Deseret News in opposition against bill SB200. Doctor Sellers shares that he is open to the idea that Psilocybin has the potential for therapeutic benefits, but believes ALL medications should go through the FDA approval process (not a voting process). Jared shares that he remains "curious" about Psilocybin's therapeutic benefits. His main concern would be the screening of clients & how it is distributed. The hosts compare it to the way Marijuana is distributed from a dispensary vs the way Ketamine clinics administer & regulate within the clinic setting. Both hosts agree that today there are a lot of really effective biomedical medications for the physical body, however, there are not a lot of really effective emotional, behavioral, or cognitive medications for the mind. Could alternative medications such as Psilocybin become one? The consensus seems to be that we really don't know! The FDA is "fast-tracking" the research to answer this question as we speak. The hosts want to recognize/respect all thoughts & opinions, they ask that you recognize/respect their thoughts & opinions expressed on this episode at this point in time. This is a very informational & educational episode on the history & proposed use of Psilocybin aka "Magic Mushrooms". We hope you enjoy it!
