Many of us are reshaping our time spent studying the Word and are finding that we don’t have as many resources as we’d like. Join Pastor Jason Walch and Director of Community Connection, Nancy Nelson, as they practice the SOAR method of Bible study together on a new podcast - the Denver Pres Bible Study Project. This is a great chance to learn about and develop the skills of deep Bible study. We’ll begin in the book of James and will release new episodes every Friday.
Marriage is a day-in-day-out endeavor. Relating to spouses is so woven into the rhythm of our day (for those who are married) that we often don’t stop to look closely at what this core relationship is, or should be. The scriptures have a lot to say about marriage, so our starting point should be in defining what marriage was intended to be by God. This study will take a close look at passages in Ephesians and Genesis to get a sense of what marriage was created to be, with opportunities to reflect on how we have experienced marriage in our families, our communities, and in the culture around us.
There are so many aspects of being Christ follower and we’re often pulled in different directions so that it’s hard to know what it actually requires to follow God in a meaningful way. We’ll explore a biblical theology of the mission of the church, laid out Christopher J. H. Wright’s book The Mission of God’s People, to help us get a better grasp of what kind of people we’re supposed to be. Wright searches the scriptures with the goal of understanding who we are as the Church, what we’re called to do, and how we might best go about doing it.
1 and 2 Kings are incredible historical books with a whirlwind of characters like Solomon, Elijah, Elisha, and a series of kings, some faithful to Yahweh, and others completely rebellious. In Kings, Israel is at its pinnacle as a kingdom before slipping into years of darkness, and then ultimately into exile as a nation. But where is God in the fall of Israel? Can He be found in these books? Where is God when we’ve forgotten Him? Throughout the books of Kings, God is constant. We will be reflecting on God’s character through the fall of Israel.
As followers of Christ, we are all leaders in one area of life or another, whether it’s parenting a two year-old or leading a department of 200 people. No matter the context, we are also all prone to failure and weakness. Thankfully weakness and vulnerability is a requirement for biblical leadership. If you are interested in learning more about what it means to lead through weakness, join us as we dive into Dan Allender’s book, Leading With a Limp.
