This is My Story Part 8: Jacob // Eric Robertson

Victory Fellowship Church Podcast

Betrayal, struggle, wrestling, and redemption. These are the components of a great story. Many of us have been through these seasons. Maybe you are in one of these seasons now. In this message, Pastor Eric Robertson shares the story of Jacob. Providence is the tension between my ability to choose my next step and God's ability to choose it for me.God working behind the scenes to bring about His will and our good, both with and without our participation.Jacob's story is a story of God's providence, bringing about His will and Jacob's good in the life of someone who lived almost entirely for himself.·      Jacob's choices tell us something about ourselves: We sometimes would rather take from God what He already wanted to give us.·      God was with Jacob, but Jacob's decisions had real consequences. God may guide our destinies, but our decisions determine the difficulty/detours.·      Even when think we have what we want, a fugitive never rests easy. You may be running from God, but in His house is where you belong and Jacob feels this, so this he flees back home... ·      Jacob walks away from a God-encounter with a limp, but also with a new name. Your past is going to leave scars, but your scars don't determine your identity, God does.·      His whole life, Jacob took blessing he wasn't given. That night he finally asked for one, and he waited, wrestling until morning, to receive it. Peace requires patience. Blessing requires submission. Destiny requires a new name with a new limp. ·      Jacob spent his life taking, but everything he went through led him to this moment of receiving. Every misstep, every poor decision redeemed by God, almost like it was the plan the whole time.·      God can redeem your pain, your tragedy, and your mistakes. No matter how far of a detour you've taken, God can fix it.·      Providence doesn't answer the question as to whether something was going to happen along. It does make us more comfortable with saying "I don't know, but I trust Him." Are you trusting God with your future?

The Brewers had a strange week, first taking four of five against the Cardinals and then laying an egg in Pittsburgh, but they arrive at the all-star break in great shape. Can they keep this up with a pitching staff on the mend? Brewers reporter Curt Hogg, driving from Pittsburgh to all-star festivities in Philadelphia, joins host JR Radcliffe to discuss the team's pitching misfortunes, with serious injury news for Brandon Woodruff and lesser but bothersome concerns around Kyle Harrison and Jacob Misiorowski. What happens next for Christian Yelich, who may have fallen off a cliff statistically? What about Jackson Chourio and William Contreras, and a struggling Aaron Ashby? Luis Lara debuts, David Hamilton gets hurt, the team added Bryse Wilson and Braden Shewmake and Joey Ortiz is hitting the ball well.In Three Up Three Down (39:30), top prospects get their chance to compete in the futures game, a relief pitcher who has found a rhythm and a rainout with no rain. In Remembrew When (53:00), discussion of a famous Brewers tie (no, not the all-star one) and in Curt Blanche (56:30), we say hello to the city of Brotherly Love. Then, JR sits down with reliever Garrett Stallings (1:02:05), who got sent back to Class AAA but not after some excellent small-sample work with the big-league club after a long minor-league journey.

In the second half of my conversation with author and speaker Wende Gaikema, our discussion turns to some of the most difficult and deeply personal questions parents face after the suicide of a child.  (If you haven't listened to the first half of our conversation yet, please click HERE to do that!)Drawing from her own experience following the death of her 24-year-old son, Matt, Wende continues walking through the choices outlined in her book, From Heartache to Hope: Navigating the Choices in Your Suicide Loss Journey. With biblical truth, practical wisdom, and remarkable honesty, she addresses the questions that so many grieving parents quietly carry but are often afraid to ask.Together, we discuss how to respond to shame, regret, and anger, how to navigate birthdays and holidays after loss, and why learning to "dance with a limp" can become a picture of healing. Throughout the conversation, Wende reminds us that grief changes us forever ... but it doesn't have to define us forever. In this episode, you'll hear about:What Scripture actually says about suicide and salvationWhy suicide is not the unpardonable sinHow to respond to feelings of shame, self-blame, and regretIdentifying and rejecting the voice of condemnationThe importance of self-compassion after child lossProcessing anger—including anger toward the child who diedUnderstanding the "emotional shrapnel" that suicide leaves behindNavigating birthdays, holidays, heaven dates, and other difficult milestonesWhy every family should find its own way to remember and honor their childThe meaning behind Wende's beautiful phrase, "Dancing with a Limp"How practicing gratitude can gradually shift our perspectiveUsing your story to comfort others without allowing your grief to define youOne of the most encouraging themes in this episode is the reminder that God rarely gives us enough light to see the entire path ahead, but He faithfully provides enough light for the next step. As Wende shares, healing isn't about "getting over" the loss of your child. It's about learning to carry that loss with grace while continuing to live the life God still has for you.Resources MentionedFrom Heartache to Hope: Navigating the Choices in Your Suicide Loss Journey by Wende GaikemaWende's website: https://coachwende.comIf you have lost a child to suicide, we pray this conversation reminds you that you are not alone. There is no shame in your story, no condemnation for those who are in Christ, and no grief so deep that God cannot meet you there. He is faithful to walk with you, one step at a time.If this episode encouraged you, please consider subscribing to the podcast, leaving a review, or sharing it with another bereaved parent. Vanessa is still off girlbossing at her Pilates studio (engage your cores, people!), so your host Beth is once again flying solo this episode. And honestly? She's doing ok with it. Except that her medieval faire responsibilities have kept her away from the D2DLP Instagram account, but she's back with a cozy, chatty, mailbag-filled show just for you. First up, a letter from Aline, who you might remember from her fantastic birthday stay at the Disneyland Hotel. Aline has a big, beautiful idea to share. Then, listener Jonah returns with a trip report that has everything, including a Saint Patrick's Day meetup and a stunning evening at the Fleur de Lys bar inside the Disneyland Hotel. After that, a letter arrives from someone very close to home – at least, close to Beth's home state. This listener has a surprising title, a book about Disneyland and lots of feelings about churros (yes, really!), and a poetic connection to Euro Disney that goes back to 1993. Then Beth wraps up with a heartfelt thank you to everyone who sends in stories, churro grievances, and Fleur de Lys confessions. She misses Vanessa, but this solo adventure once again proves that the real magic isn't in the drones or the fancy chandeliers – it's in you. So pour something warm into your favorite Disney mug or medieval tankard, settle in, and press play. Just remember: don't try to book a Fastpass for a hug. Some things are better left unplanned. Subscribe, rate, review, and send your own tales(or poems!) to dlp@dedicatedtodlp.com. Find us on Instagram at @dedicatedtodlp. Adventure is out there – but so are fake books, so look closely.

Episode Summary “Losers limp” isn't about insulting kids. It's about naming a real basketball truth: bad body language after mistakes costs possessions, and possessions cost games. This episode breaks down how coaches can eliminate the “limp” after missed shots, turnovers, and bad calls by training a simple standard: Sprint. Talk. Reset. The mistake isn't what kills you The response is what kills you Jogging back, blaming refs, hanging heads, and going silent turns one mistake into three Most teams don't get beat by better plays. They get beat in the moments right after mistakes—transition defense, communication, and the ability to reset. 1) Sprint back on change Every time, not “most of the time” Transition defense is the heartbeat of your program 2) Talk on the way back Find the ball, find the basket, find your match If players can't talk when tired, they won't talk when it matters 3) Reset fast Choose one cue word: “Next,” “Neutral,” etc. Make it your identity and use it consistently A short-live segment (2 minutes) where you score the response, not the basket: Sprint + talk after mistakes = win the possession Jogging, complaining, head down = point for the other team This turns “effort” into a measurable standard. “You can make mistakes. You can't make slow mistakes.” “You can miss a shot. You cannot limp back.” “Champions don't avoid mistakes. They reset faster than everyone else.” Body language is a habit, not a personality trait Habits can be trained through standards + consequences Reward the response, not just the result The best teams aren't perfect—they just don't break after mistakes Pick your cue word and install it this week. Demand sprint-back and talk-back in practice. Make the reset the standard—because winners respond, and champions reset. In this episode of Metalology, we dive headfirst into one of the most polarizing movements in heavy music history. In the late '90s, when metal was losing mainstream ground and identity, nu-metal crashed in—loud, rebellious, and impossible to ignore. Love it or hate it, bands fused hip-hop, groove, and raw emotion into something that dragged metal back into the spotlight. But here's the twist—was that just round one? Fast forward to the 2020s, and the DNA of nu-metal is everywhere again. From rising bands to arena headliners, that same bounce, angst, and genre-blurring chaos is making a serious comeback. Is this nostalgia… or evolution? And more importantly—did nu-metal just pull off the unthinkable and save metal again? We're breaking down the impact, the backlash, the revival, and what it all means for the future of heavy music. Whether you've been blasting it since day one or you're just now hearing the echoes, this is a conversation you don't want to miss. #325. Oh hi! We were just talking about matching a hat to the beard. Speaking of which, by some beard oil; the Artius Man link is below. Anyway, Kory is back and has some meal strategy to add to our previous discussion before he shares the ups and downs and ups again about his trip to Spain. He and his wife had a great time, learned what Tapas are all about, and got angry at the Spanish Home Depot. All of this raises some good questions about when to move on to plan B, when to press on, and when to order drinks from the flight crew so you can enjoy the luggage-filled drama on an airplane. Enjoy! Until next time, be kind to each other.FTM Merch! - https://www.teepublic.com/user/fromthemiddleLinkTree - https://linktr.ee/fromthemidpodVOICE MAIL! Chelsea were beaten at home by Newcastle in a performance so devoid of energy, fight, and basic quality that it left Simon and Manny genuinely lost for words — before finding plenty of them. This was not a defeat that can be explained away by bad luck or fine margins. This was a limp, spineless capitulation on home turf that has no excuses and deserves no protection.Simon and Manny are back together and in no mood for diplomacy. The players get it, the manager gets it, and for the first time the hosts go deep on the culture at Stamford Bridge — because at some point the question stops being about tactics and formations and starts being about why so many people at this football club continue to walk into work every week with their jobs intact. Accountability at Chelsea is non-existent and it is becoming impossible to ignore. The hosts are genuinely mystified. A transfer spend that dwarfs every club in world football. A squad bursting with international talent. And yet here we are — losing at home to Newcastle without so much as a whimper, sliding down the table, out of the Champions League, and running out of time to salvage anything meaningful from what should have been a breakthrough season. Desperate times does not begin to cover it.Then attention turns to Tuesday and the second leg against PSG — a 5-2 deficit, a shattered squad, and a miracle required. Simon and Manny ask the question nobody really believes the answer to anymore: is there any version of this Chelsea side that shows up and does the impossible?

Kevin, Grayson, and The Chief decide if Saturdays loss to Minnesota was worth freaking out about, and if the 2025 impression was just an early season fluke or a sign of things to come. Uber Freight Hits Breakeven, EPA Probes "Limp Mode" & Military Escorts in Red Sea | The Daily

In this episode, we break down how Uber Freight posted flat Q4 results but finally achieved breakeven profitability through disciplined cost measures. We also discuss the company's pivot toward autonomous trucking as a long-term strategy to drive higher asset utilization. On the asset-based side, we analyze why losses continue at Heartland Express as the carrier navigates costly fleet integrations and a soft market. Despite recording its tenth consecutive net loss, the company's improving operating margins offer a glimmer of hope for a turnaround. Regulatory news takes center stage as the EPA targets truck engine makers to investigate widespread DEF system failures causing "limp mode" incidents. This major shift aims to treat equipment reliability as a manufacturer quality issue rather than a driver compliance problem. Global instability forces the Gemini Alliance to rely on military forces to secure Red Sea voyages, even as other carriers continue to divert around Africa. Back home, the industry faces a bureaucratic paradox where 65,000 new visas are available but remain inaccessible due to a State Department freeze. Finally, we examine the broader economic fallout as weak freight demand triggers facility closures and layoffs across the logistics and manufacturing sectors. With over 3,000 jobs cut since mid-January, the industry is questioning how much leaner operations can get.
