To get you ready for the party, we are looking into the Oktoberfest genre. This is the first of a three-part series that introduces oktoberfest (or festbiers). Hello everyone and welcome to the advocate’s advocates podcast. The show that is bringing simplicity back into the complex world of beer wine and spirits. I am your host, Spence Kraft. Our theme this week is Hopped Wheat Ales. Wheat is a very neutral grain, so in beer it provides very subtle flavors and allows the flavors of the yeast strand to stand out. One can expect soft, floral, fruity aromas and flavors. Especially reminiscent of bananas and cloves. The bitterness (IBU’s) of most wheat beers (‘wit’ in german’) is low. (Close to 15 IBU’s) This means when a brewery adds hops to a wheat style beer, a little bit goes a long way.

We are starting a new series called the "Libation Education" series. These are short episodes that provide quick tips and tricks to help you interact within the world of beer. Class is in session. It's called "Your Best IPA". It reviews how to interact with bartenders to find the best drink for you. Although it focuses on beer, this will work for wine and spirits, too!

First we had West Coast, now we jump on the "Haze Craze" band wagon of East Coast IPA's. How are they different from the West Coast styles? All I can say is, this is a 'Juicy' episode.

This week we take a step back to explore the base of IPA's... The Pale Ale. Could this be the 'gateway beer?'
