Welcome to the 2nd season premiere of The Be A Beacon Podcast! It was cool to sit and chat with Black queer women that are literally planning our communities! I wanted to have this topic on because we need to be more engaged in the community planning process. From the way houses and apartment buildings are built to our shopping centers, grocery stores and parks, and just how we live in general, it's all connected. Why does this matter to our communities? I was pleased to talk with Jerome Horne, who is very active in the online urban planning and advocacy space, as well as a transit ridership specialist in Indianapolis, about his journey as a black man in a Baltimore native black family, in the early 2000s Atlanta suburbs, in college in Southwest Georgia and now in Indianapolis and online. You can find Jerome in so many online spaces, both him and his glorious collection of transit signs, which I can't help but nerd out over as a transit geek myself. Keep up with Jerome! Folks, 2019 for me has been a year of many ups and downs. After years of having this idea in my head, I bought this website and started to put content on it, Facebook and Instagram. I took the stand-up comedy stage for the first time, even joining a collective of women committed to making our art and work better. I took some of the messages from the videos and vended my card line for the first time. I still managed to find time to go to my full-time job and follow my partner Kristen all over the place as we support the growth of her urban planning and policy venture The Black Urbanist. What you haven’t seen as much until lately is the struggle. The health challenges. The changes at work. Still feeling like I have to be a certain way or in a certain space to survive. And then I sat down and thought about how I really want to enter 2020. I’m a firm believer in being able to manifest what you need in your future and I’ve decided to challenge myself over the next 30 days, starting on January 1, to apply some of the wisdom and lessons I’ve learned in my life actively. I’m inviting you to join me, FOR FREE, on this journey. If you decide to do so, you’ll see a message around 8 am Eastern, , on the Les’s Lighthouse Facebook group page, in your email (subscribe at www.leslighthouse.com), with a daily lesson and challenge. Then around 8:30-8:45 pm Eastern, I will go live in the Facebook group and encourage you to share your thoughts and tease what the next day’s challenge will be. Don’t despair if you miss a one or a couple of days. All the messages will stay up through the challenge and we will have a moment for you to reflect on your progress as we go through the course. Also, stay tuned for special bonuses and chances to work with me in the future. Again, this is a chance to work with me and see my training methods FOR FREE, which is not guaranteed in the future. Again, follow the Les’s Lighthouse GROUP page so you won’t miss out on all of the trainings, not just the daily nugget of wisdom from January 1-30 as we start 2020 with purpose! Btw: I cuss. So there will be cursing. Not a lot, but some. But we all say a fuck and a shit here and there. But if there’s sensitive ears around... --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
