Elon Musk - Did DEI Impact LA's Wildfire Response?

Elon Musk Pod

What do Elon Musk, raging wildfires, and Los Angeles Fire Department hiring policies have in common? It's a question sparking debate across social media as critics like Musk blame the city's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts for a perceived decline in firefighting efficiency. But is there evidence linking these initiatives to the spread of the flames—or is it all social media speculation? As wildfires swept through Los Angeles, tech billionaire Elon Musk and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman took to social media, particularly Musk's platform X (formerly Twitter), to criticize LAFD's DEI efforts. Musk amplified claims tying the department's focus on diversity to a failure to prevent and control fires, sharing a post that read, “DEI means people DIE.” However, neither Musk nor Ackman presented evidence directly connecting DEI initiatives to the fire department's operational capacity. The controversy also spotlighted LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley, who became the department's first female and LGBTQ leader when she was sworn in in 2022. That same year, the department established a dedicated DEI bureau. Critics have questioned whether these developments contributed to wildfire challenges, though no direct link between Crowley's leadership or DEI efforts and the severity of the wildfires has been established. On her podcast, Megyn Kelly harshly criticized Crowley, claiming she prioritized diversity efforts over operational firefighting measures. “She has made not filling the fire hydrants top priority, but diversity,” Kelly said in a now-viral clip that Musk and Ackman shared. However, multiple reports clarify that responsibility for maintaining water supplies, including fire hydrants, falls to the city's Department of Water and Power—not the fire department. The right-wing social media account Libs of TikTok also targeted Crowley, posting content about her participation in LGBTQ Pride events and criticizing her leadership. These posts gained millions of views, further fueling criticism. Libs of TikTok, which has faced prior suspensions for accusations of hate speech, asserted that their posts were factual despite the platform's policy violations. Commentators like Matt Walsh echoed similar sentiments, claiming the LAFD deliberately excluded white men from firefighting roles. Walsh offered no evidence to support this assertion, though the department has indeed voiced a commitment to hiring and retaining a more diverse workforce. Some social media users pointed to a decades-old claim by radio host Adam Carolla, who testified before Congress in 2017 that he was denied a firefighting job in Los Angeles in the 1980s for not being “Black, Hispanic or a woman.” Carolla's anecdote predated both Crowley's tenure and the formation of the DEI bureau by decades, rendering it irrelevant to current LAFD practices. The debate even spilled into televised political discussions. During a CNN segment, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) pushed back against conservative commentator Scott Jennings, who criticized the LAFD's diversity efforts. Crockett expressed frustration over the persistent blame placed on DEI policies. “I am so tired of people acting as if white men are the only ones capable,” she said. CNN anchor Abby Phillip pressed Jennings further, questioning the connection between DEI initiatives and the department's ongoing battle with what was described as a “historic fire.” Despite the criticisms, there's no indication that Crowley neglected fire prevention efforts in favor of diversity initiatives. Upon her appointment, Crowley told the Los Angeles City News Service that her “first priority” would be strengthening communication with her command staff. The LAFD's 2023-2026 Strategic Plan lists the department's primary goals as maintaining operational readiness, enhancing firefighter safety and well-being, and improving workplace conditions. While promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion is also a goal, it ranks third on the list.

As part of Radio 3's programming around LGBTQ+ Pride, Hannah French is joined by musicologists Berta Joncus and Lola Salem to explore the life and career of Jean-Baptiste Lully, who shot to fame at the court of King Louis XIV. Lully was an Italian violinist, guitarist and dancer, who caught the eye of the young King when they danced together in a ballet in 1653. Before long, he became an indispensable part of the Paris and Versailles music scenes, entertaining the royal family for the next thirty years and earning a very good salary from doing so. Lully was bisexual, and for many years his relationships with both men and women were never questioned – there was an implicit acceptance to same-sex desires among the upper echelons of 17th Century Parisian society. But in 1683, Queen Marie-Thérèse died, and the king's secret marriage to Madame de Maintenon changed everything. Devotion came to the fore at court, the king's enthusiasm for opera dissipated, he became increasingly annoyed by what he now considered Lully's dissolute lifestyle, and everything began to unravel…

He shares his personal background, including his family's history of surviving the Holocaust and his upbringing in a strong Jewish environment. Yuval highlights his career in entertainment and journalism, noting the antisemitism he has faced and how it has shaped his advocacy work. Yuval discusses the concept of "Hineni" ("Here I am") and its significance in Jewish culture, particularly in times of crisis. He talks about the importance of using one's talents and platforms to support Jewish causes and combat antisemitism. Yuval also addresses the challenges within the LGBTQ community, particularly the rise of groups like "Queers for Palestine" and the antisemitism he has encountered in progressive movements. The conversation touches on the need for strong Jewish representation and the importance of social media in spreading awareness and combating misinformation. Yuval emphasizes the role of Jewish organizations in supporting activists and the necessity of a unified Jewish movement. He also speaks about the importance of educating and empowering the younger generation to embrace their Jewish identity and activism. Throughout the podcast, Yuval shares anecdotes from his life, including his experiences with antisemitism in the entertainment industry and his efforts to challenge stereotypes and advocate for Jewish and LGBTQ rights. He concludes by stressing the importance of resilience, education, and unity in the face of adversity. Join us as we shed light on these critical conversations and work towards a future free from hate.

Girl Scouts pushes homosexual “pride” patch, Joe Biden's grimace-worthy post-debate interview, Kevin Swanson heard bombs in Ukraine & asks for prayers for suffering church

It's Monday, July 8th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Kevin Swanson heard bombs in Ukraine, asks for prayers for suffering church Kevin Swanson, the founder of Generations, has been traveling throughout Ukraine.  Here is his report. SWANSON: “Adam, Gerald Huebner and I are in Kryvyi on a mission to bring the family discipleship message to the nation of Ukraine. We have been invited to encourage pastors, Christian leaders, and families from various denominations on the subjects of Christian family life, Christian worldview, and family-based education during a time of very deep crisis for the nation. “We rode the train overnight into Kryvyi, into south central Ukraine, arriving about five o'clock this morning. I'm gonna say about 7:30am the bombing siren sounded and explosions were heard around the city, probably Ukrainian defenses shooting down missiles launched into the area. “An Evangelical pastor in Cherkasy told me yesterday they have had more free speech and less persecution at the hands of the state here in Ukraine since gaining independence in 1992. Ukrainians have an independent streak and they appreciate their freedoms here. “Now, this has been a time of growth for Evangelical Christian faith in the country. But Christians have recently reported 30 Ukrainian Evangelical pastors killed thus far in the war at the hands of the Russians. The two-plus year war is wearing hard on the civilian population here in central, southern, and eastern Ukraine. The power grid is mostly down, maybe two hours a day. Very little air conditioning, not much promise of heating this winter. “However, these pastors tell us that the Evangelical work of the church must continue despite the war. We still have the obligation to pursue the greatest commission disciple the nations no matter what. And that's why we are ministering here in Ukraine on this day, July 5, 2024. So, pray for the suffering Church in a time of war. These are faithful Christians serving Jesus, but facing extreme hardship. “This is Kevin Swanson reporting for The Worldview from Kryvyi, Ukraine.” Revelation 2:10 says, “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution. … Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor's crown.” Joe Biden's grimace-worthy post-debate interview Following the June 27th Biden/Trump presidential debate in which many viewers thought Biden's performance was so demonstrably poor that he should consider withdrawing from the race altogether, ABC aired an eye-opening interview last Friday in which George Stephanopoulos sat down with President Biden who blamed his bad performance on a cold. STEPHANOPOLOUS: “Let's start with the debate. You and your team have said you had a bad night. But your friend Nancy Pelosi actually framed the question I think is on the minds of millions of Americans. Was this a bad episode or the sign of a more serious condition?” BIDEN: “It was a bad episode. No indication of any serious condition. I was exhausted. I didn't listen to my instincts, in terms of preparedness, and a bad night.” STEPHANOPOLOUS: “You know, you say you're exhausted. And I know you've said that before as well. But you came home from Europe about 11 or 12 days before the debate, spent six days in Camp David. Why wasn't that enough rest time, enough recovery time?” BIDEN: “Because I was sick. I was feeling terrible. Matter of fact, the docs with me I asked him if did a COVID test because we're trying to figure out what's wrong. They did a test to see whether or not I had some infection, you know, a virus. I didn't. They just said I had a really bad cold.” Stephanopolous to Biden: "Are you more frail?" STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Do you dispute that there have been more lapses, especially in the last several months?” BIDEN:  “Can I run the 100 [meters] in 10 [seconds] flat? No. But I'm still in good shape.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Are you more frail?” BIDEN: “No.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “I know you spoke with your doctor after the debate. What did he say?” BIDEN: “He said, ‘You're exhausted.' I have medical doctors travel with me everywhere I go. Every president does, as you know. I have an ongoing assessment of what I'm doing. They don't hesitate to tell me if they think there's something wrong.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Have you had a full neurological and cognitive evaluation?” BIDEN: “I get a full neurological test every day. And I've had a full physical.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Have you had this specific cognitive test? And have you had a neurologist, a specialist, do an examination?” BIDEN: “No. No one said that I had to.  They said I'm good.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Would you be willing to undergo an independent medical evaluation that included neurological and cognitive tests and released the results to the American people?” BIDEN: “Look, I have a cognitive test every single day. Everything I do. Not only am I campaigning, but I'm running the world. There's no day I go through there are not those decisions I have to make every single day.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Yet there are concerns about your age and your health are growing. So, that's why I'm asking you. To reassure them, would you be willing to have the independent medical evaluation?” BIDEN: “There's a lot of time left in this campaign. There's over 125 days.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “The answer right now is: ‘No.' You don't want to do that right now.” BIDEN:  “No, I've already done it.” Stephanopoulos to Biden: "Are you "being honest with yourself?" Stephanopoulos became more direct. STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Are you sure you're being honest with yourself when you say you have the mental and physical capacity to serve another four years?” BIDEN: “Yes I am because, George, the last thing I want to do is not be able to meet that.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “But are you being honest with yourself as well about your ability to defeat Donald Trump right now?” BIDEN: “Yes! Yes, yes, yes.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “You say that and let me challenge you.” BIDEN: “Sure.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Because you were close, but behind going into the debate. You're further behind now, by any measure. It's been a two-man race for several months. Inflation has come down.  In those last few months, he's become a convicted felon, yet you're still falling further behind.” BIDEN: “You guys keep saying that. George, look, you know polling better than anybody. Do you think polling data is as accurate as it used to be?” Number of Americans who think Biden is too old has doubled The ABC anchor cited the dramatic increase in American voters who believe Joe Biden is too old to run for re-election. STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “The number of Americans who think you're too old to serve has doubled since 2020. Wouldn't a clear-eyed political calculus tell you that it's going to be much tougher to win in 2024?” BIDEN: “Not when you're running against a pathological liar. Not when he hadn't been challenged in a way that he is about to be challenged. Not when people …” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “You have had months to challenge him.” BIDEN: “Well, sure I had months, but I was also doing a lot of other things like wars around the world, by keeping NATO together.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Do you really believe you're not behind right now?” BIDEN: “All pollsters I talked to tell me it's a toss-up.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “When you look at the reality though, Mr. President, I mean, you won the popular vote in 2020, but it was still deadly close in the Electoral College.” BIDEN: “by seven million votes.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Yes, but you're behind now in the popular vote.” BIDEN: “I don't, I don't buy that.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “Is it worth the risk?” BIDEN: “I don't think anybody's more qualified to be president or win this race than me.” Democratic Senator Mark Warner and other senators think Biden should step down While Biden was incredulous that Trump wanted to undo all of the policies he has implemented in the last three and a half years, Stephanopoulos zeroed in on the question of whether Biden is the best man to defeat Trump. BIDEN: “He's the guy who wants to undo every single thing I've done, every single thing!” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “I understand that's why you want to stay in the race. But have you convinced yourself that only you can defeat him?” BIDEN: “I've convinced myself of two things. I'm the most qualified person to beat him. And I know how to get things done.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “If you can be convinced that you cannot defeat Donald Trump, will you stand down?” BIDEN: “Well, it depends. If the Lord Almighty comes down and tells me that, I might do that.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  Well, I mean, on a more practical level, the Washington Post just reported in the last hour that Senator Mark Warner [of Virginia] is assembling a group of senators together to try to convince you to stand down because they don't think you can win more. BIDEN: “Mark and I have a different perspective.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “And if Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries and Nancy Pelosi come down and say, ‘We're worried that if you stay in the race, we're going to lose the House and the Senate, how will you respond?” BIDEN: “I'd go into detail and I've spoken to all of them -- in detail. They all said I should stay in the race.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “But if they do?” BIDEN: “They're not going to do that.” STEPHANOPOLOUS:  “You're sure?” BIDEN: “Yeah, I'm sure. If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,' I'd get out of the race. But the Lord Almighty is not coming down.” Matthew 24:42 says, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” Girl Scouts pushes homosexual “pride” patch, rewarding girls for attending perverse parades And finally, as Kevin Swanson travels and speaks abroad, I guest host for him today on Generations Radio. I chatted with Patti Garibay, founder of American Heritage Girls, a Christ-centered scouting program for girls in which my 12-year-old daughter Mercy participates. Back in the 1990s, she founded American Heritage Girls when the Girl Scouts abandoned loyalty to God in their pledge and began endorsing abortion. Did you know that today the Girl Scouts is now giving the 1.7 million girls in its program the opportunity to earn a homosexual pride patch?  Listen. GARIBAY: “On their Facebook page, June one, they encourage the girls to earn their LGBTQ+ ‘Pride' patch, and to march in their local parades, as well as research some famous people in the LGBTQ community so that they can learn more. And this goes all the way down to the little 5-year-old Daisies. They are to learn about these kinds of the famous authors, the famous artists from the LGBTQ. McMANUS: “I'm looking directly at the Girl Scouts homosexual Transgender Pride badge. The Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scout levels, which consists of children beginning in kindergarten, must participate in three Pride-related -- meaning homosexual/transgender-related activities to earn the patch. Older Girl Scouts at the Cadet, Senior, and Ambassador levels must participate in six activities, ‘Pride' homosexual events to earn the patch. “Girl Scouts are encouraged to identify five books by homosexual/transgender authors, create a painting of a homosexual/transgender artist, create a music playlist of 12 homosexual/transgender musicians and the list goes on. “It's just baffling! They're just falling all over themselves to cave to the culture.” In Matthew 18:6, Jesus said, “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in Me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” To listen to my interview with Patti Garibay, the founder of American Heritage Girls, just go to Generations.org/radio. The Supreme Court punted Donald Trump's presidential immunity claim back to the lower courts today, ruling that presidents have immunity for core constitutional powers, but not for unofficial acts—though they did not detail what those acts are and are not. Lawmakers and legal experts responded to the decision. Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the Caribbean island of Carriacou. The dangerous and powerful Category 4 storm is the earliest one of its strength to form in the Atlantic, fueled by record warm waters. House Republicans filed a lawsuit against Attorney General Merrick Garland for the audio recording of President Joe Biden's interview with a special counsel in his classified documents case. They are asking the courts to enforce their subpoena and reject the White House's effort to withhold the materials from Congress. Former senior aide to Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, has reported to prison to begin serving a four-month sentence for defying a congressional subpoena from the House committee investigating the January 6, 2020, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The monthlong celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride reached its finale over the weekend, with Pride parades hosted in numerous major cities across the country and the globe. In San Francisco, home to one of the first formal Pride organizations in the world, thousands of people gathered yesterday to celebrate the city's 54th annual Pride march. The Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) has been one of the success stories in recent American church history. Most denominations in the U.S. are in decline, but ACNA, founded just 15 years ago, has grown to more than 1000 congregations and a membership of 120,000. In today's commentary, I share my thoughts about what's needed to keep ACNA on an upward trajectory. In today's podcast, I promise a few links. Here they are: As I have written elsewhere, Anglicanism has the potential to breathe new life into the evangelical movement. “The Augustine Appeal,” asserts that the “ordination of women to the priesthood is a ‘recent innovation'…and we affirm the theological conclusion that the practice has ‘insufficient scriptural warrant.'” Heath McClure is the “assisting priest” at a congregation called Luminous Church. McClure became suddenly famous last weekend when former Jars of Clay lead singer Dan Haseltine posted a photo of the two of them (and others) at a pro-LGBTQ Pride event in the affluent Nashville suburb of Franklin. Luminous calls itself a “hospitable and inclusive community.” McClure wears a rainbow-colored T-shirt saying, “A Pastor With Pride.” Anne Kennedy, a conservative commentator and Anglican church member, wrote a scathing commentary that went semi-viral in the Anglican world. Kennedy took a close look at the website of Luminous Church and found much that troubled her and many Anglicans.

It's Tuesday, March 26th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Nigerian Christian students ostracized at two universities After Nigerian Christians have faced years of persecution at the hands of Muslim extremists, now this. Alliance Defending Freedom International reports that two public universities in Katsina State, one state and one federal, have placed bans on the use of their facilities for Christian religious activities.  Lawsuits have been filed under provisions provided by the nation's constitution which allows religious freedoms. One of the universities enforced the ban by locking all worship and fellowship centers on university grounds, preventing Christian students and groups from accessing the facilities, and banning them from meeting for worship and fellowship elsewhere on campus. Meanwhile, Muslim student groups at both universities have been permitted to hold worship and fellowship meetings in university-constructed worship and meeting spaces. Both universities have relatively high percentages of Christian students and faculty despite Katsina being a Muslim-majority state. Nigeria is the sixth most difficult country worldwide to be a Christian. Nigerian pastor acquitted of helping runaway Muslim girl Thankfully, there is some good news in Nigeria. After languishing in a Nigerian jail for three years, Pastor Jonah Gangas and his wife, Josephine Gangas, were finally acquitted of wrongdoing after taking in and educating a young Nigerian girl. The couple took in a runaway 12-year-old Muslim girl at the request of the local police, but later was prosecuted by a local Islamic group.   Nigeria's crippling 30% inflation Persecuting Christians isn't helping the economic crisis in Nigeria. The nation is dealing with 30% inflation.  Prices for food staples like rice and bread have doubled in a year.  Nigeria's per capita Gross Domestic Product topped out at $3,200 in 2014, after which the nation began electing Muslim presidents.  The per capita GDP has since dropped off to $2,200.  Minnesota eager to persecute Christian ministries The State of Minnesota is on the warpath to persecute Christian ministries operating within the state lines.   The Minnesota state government turned over to complete Democrat control as of 2022. AlphaNews.com reports that a Senate committee voted down an amendment last week that would have protected religious institutions against claims of “gender identity discrimination.”   The Minnesota Human Rights Act now requires Christian schools and religious organizations not to discriminate against men, pretending to be women, in their hiring practices. Listen to this warning from Isaiah chapter 5, verses 18 and 20. “Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, who draw sin as with cart ropes. … Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” Chemical abortions account for 63% of all U.S. abortions Over the last eight years, the Food and Drug Administration has removed “safety standards” for the use of drugs used for the intentional killing of pre-born children in this country.  This has enabled mail-order abortions, now available through Telehealth, in all 50 states.    These chemical abortions make up 63% of all abortions, and Telehealth accounts for 16% of all abortions. Also, according to reports assembled by MotherJones.com, 90% of these Telehealth abortions occur in states where abortions are banned or severely restricted. This amounts to at least 200,000 extra abortions for the top three providers. Colorado abortion providers are reporting 6,000 out-of-state abortions per year by Telehealth. Supreme Court hears Abortion Kill Pill case Today, the U.S. Supreme Court will be hearing arguments on a case filed by four national medical associations, their members, and four individual doctors against the FDA for unlawfully removing the “safety standards” over the Abortion Kill Pill. Pro-lifers are watching this highly significant case. Last week, The Worldview reported that the number of abortions is up 10% since 2020. The significant increase is due to the ease of access to the chemical abortion pill in all fifty states.  Man charged with double murder including pregnant mother and baby In a related story, a New Hampshire man is charged with a double murder, as the suspect in the killing of a pregnant woman and her pre-born child. The charge noted that the crime occurred "under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life.” William Kelly, age 38, has been indicted by the Carroll County Grand Jury in connection with the deaths of Christine Falzone and her pre-born child. This represents the first prosecution of the state's fetal homicide bill since it was passed in 2018. Leviticus 24:17 presents God's law on murder: “Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death.” Median price of new homes fell 19% The median price of a new home in the United States fell 19% from its 2023 high, reports WolfStreet.com. The price difference between the median new home price and the median used home price is also the lowest since 2007 — just before the last great recession. $1.2 trillion funding bill passes, but bans homosexual embassy flags President Joe Biden got about everything he wanted in the $1.2 trillion government funding package passed over the weekend, except for one thing.   The Republicans attached a provision that banned the flying of LGBTQ Pride flags above U.S. embassies around the world. America's deficit heading to $2 trillion And finally, based on Bipartisan Policy's Deficit Tracker's numbers, the 2024 deficit is heading towards $2 trillion this year. That's up from $1.7 trillion last fiscal year, and $1.38 trillion the year before. To compare, the average annual deficit under Barack Obama's administration was $817 billion.
