Episode Six. Any movie fan will know Steven Woolley. As a producer of 'The Crying Game' and 'Carol' he’s a multiple awards nominee, whilst his distribution company Palace was an eighties phenomenon, releasing films by the likes of David Lynch and the Coen Brothers. But he started out working in London cinemas, first as an usher then as an owner. No better person, then, to talk us through his three favourite places to watch movies, including an LA hotspot famous for 40 years of its regular screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Episode 4. That Emily Johnston, she's one of our favourite lifestyle bloggers and... ahem... ‘influencers’, known to thousands as Fashion Foie Gras. Travel, interiors, clothes and showbiz - she covers them all. She’s also an American in the UK so gives us an insight into teenage movie-going in the States as well an excruciating moment at her first London film premiere. In our second episode it’s the renowned journalist Miranda Sawyer talking us through her three favourite cinemas (James has been a fanboy of her writing since the days of the legendary Smash Hits magazine). She kicks things off in her home town of Wilmslow (yes, home to TV’s 'The Real Housewives of Cheshire'), before moving on to her student years in Oxford and then adult life hanging out at one of the coolest cinemas in London. In this, our first episode, we say hi to Stephen Merchant. You all know him, right? He co-created The Office and Extras for the telly, starred alongside Hugh Jackman in Logan and wrote and directed the recent wrestling hit Fighting with My Family. He’s also James’s old mate from university days so they couldn’t help but reminisce about their time as film students. But since the premise of this show is for guests to discuss their three favourite cinemas, Merch also took us back to his childhood as a movie fan in Bristol as well as his current life as avid filmgoer in LA. Some people just seem to have talent coming out of every pore and Stephen’s one of those guys. And as a serious cinéphile he’s also the perfect person to kick things off. Enjoy.
