Mike and Jesse are back to break down the NFL playoff picture and what it means for the sports card market. They discuss which quarterbacks have the most price upside heading into Wild Card Weekend (is Bryce Young a buy?!) and which stars they are looking to sell immediately, including Aaron Rodgers and Trevor Lawrence. Later, the guys welcome Aaron Abrams (25:10), Director of Entertainment and Pop Culture Cards at Topps, for a fascinating look into the non-sports boom. Aaron shares the chaotic, cross-country story of how Topps secured the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman dual on-card autos for Marvel Chrome, discusses the "Product of the Year" success of Disney Chrome, and teases a massive surprise coming in Pixar Gold. The guys close out the episode by looking at the final Gem Rate numbers from 2025, reflecting on surprises in the card grading market from last year. And then answer a bunch of mailbag questions including everything from their favorite products of 2025 to chest bumps in the wild and why baseball got the short end of the stick with Exquisite Collection. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesThe second Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailer dropped everywhere on Tuesday and features the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Where the Captain America trailer played much like a silent film, this one gives us a monologue's worth of dialogue from Thor as he prays for strength to fight one last enemy. On the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast this week, Ryan Coogler detailed what Black Panther 2 might have been before the death of Chadwick Boseman. T'Challa and his young son would have fought Namor side by side, with Namor being an “insanely dangerous” version of the character. Coogler reiterated that the film they made meant he “got a chance to make a movie about women…I love that movie so much.” Boseman was too ill to even read the original script that Coogler finished. Though he's working on resurrecting The X-Files for television, Coogler said of Black Panther 3 that he has “this movie on my heart.” With a fairly quiet Christmas at the box office, Avatar: Fire and Ash continued to wear the crown, climbing to a global total of $760 million, while A24's Marty Supreme starring Timothee Chalamet had a studio best opening to $27.1 million. Other films with big names opened including Anaconda featuring Paul Rudd and Jack Black; The Housemaid, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney; and Song Sung Blue, which was star-studded with Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. None did as well as Chalamet's period piece and certainly not James Cameron's continued epic.Danny Ramirez will not return to HBO's The Last of Us season 3 due to scheduling conflicts. His role will be recast. The highly anticipated Peaky Blinders feature film, now officially titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, has been set for theatrical release in select cinemas on March 6, 2026. Netflix also released the first teaser trailer for the film.Apple TV and Legendary Entertainment are expanding the “Monsterverse” universe, announcing a new show starring Wyatt Russell, who will reprise his role as Colonel Lee Shaw in a prequel series. Writer/producer Joby Harold is set to serve as showrunner.Apple TV has released the first trailer for season 3 of Shrinking, which shows the first look at Michael J. Just so you’re aware: at one point in this episode, Barnum denies being racist while also dodging a tomato someone throws at him. And somehow… that’s not even the wildest part.Anyway—This episode takes the Barnum saga to its peak (and chaos), as we step behind the glittery curtain of “The Greatest Show on Earth” to reveal the messy reality the musical politely avoided. We explore Barnum’s controversial sideshow acts, including the dehumanizing “What Is It?” exhibit, and how he turned harmful pseudoscience into box office gold. The man was hustling — and sometimes harming — long before Hugh Jackman started singing on rooftops.Through reenactments, heated commentary, uninvited tomatoes, and Barnum himself defending every terrible idea he ever had, we unravel how spectacle, exploitation, racism, manipulation, genius, and pure shamelessness merged into the legend that shaped modern entertainment. We also follow Barnum into his unexpected political career (because of course he became a mayor), his partnership with James Bailey, and his overconfident reactions to modern TV, TikTok, Nollywood, and roller coasters. He hates most things, but respects exaggeration — naturally. This is Barnum unfiltered. Ambitious. Audacious. Problematic. And annoyingly proud of it.Welcome to The Greatest Showman — where the real story is stranger than the musical… and the musical already had a man dancing with an elephant.

Read transcriptListen up, mutation enthusiasts and multi-platform adventurers, because this week on Play Comics we're strapping on our Kevlar suits and diving straight into the bewildering, beast-infested, cross-console chaos of X-Men: The Official Game! We're talking about the 2006 game that launched on practically every system known to mankind (GBA, GameCube, Nintendo DS, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. Seriously, did they forget a platform?), which based the story nominally on the third X-Men film from Fox. You know, the one that showed us what happens when Professor Xavier and Magneto finally decided to outsource their beef settlement to a video game developer. This particular romp through Marvel's merry mutant universe was brought to you by the folks who looked at a film featuring Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Iceman and thought, “What if we made this game SLIGHTLY different on each platform?” It's like they were challenged to see just how elastic the definition of ‘the same game' could be, and frankly, the results are beautifully inconsistent. The story was co-written by Chris Claremont (yes, THAT Chris Claremont) and Zak Penn, and it featured voice acting from the actual film cast, which means you got Hugh Jackman's growl in your living room, your handheld, and probably also your neighbors' living rooms at 2 AM. Joining us to make sense of this portable and stationary pandemonium is none other than Alex Zalben from Comic Book Club, a weekly live talk show about comics that's been running since 2006, performed at every major comic convention you can think of, written up in the New York Times more than once, and hosted literally hundreds of guests with more swagger than most podcasts muster in a lifetime. Alex is a writer, editor, and podcaster who knows his way around both four-color storytelling and video game adaptations, making him the perfect guide to help us determine whether this cross-generational, cross-console adventure managed to capture what makes the X-Men actually work, or if it just made us wish we could teleport away from our screens. So sync up your Danger Room protocols, pick your favorite handheld or home console, and get ready for an episode that's guaranteed to be more chaotic than a Sentinel factory explosion and infinitely more confusing than trying to figure out why THIS game exists on THAT console! Learn such things as: Who thought it was a good idea to put this on so many consoles? Is it possible to get that team feeling when you're playing solo? Is it better to look at this game as a sequel to the 2nd movie, or a prequel to the 3rd movie? And so much more! You can find Alex on YouTube @ComicBookClub and of course Comic Book Club Live. There are so many “firsts” on this episode, we're honestly not sure what to do with ourselves.Let's start by telling you (in case you skipped the headline) that we're reviewing Song Sung Blue, the based-on-a-true-story of real-life Milwaukee couple Mike and Claire Sardina, also known as Lightning & Thunder. Their Neil Diamond tribute act — with occasional departures into ABBA, Patsy Cline and others — played stages around the area for nearly 20 years, eventually catching the attention of writer/director Craig Brewer.Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson came on board his project to play the lead roles, with Jackman in particular embracing it in a huge way. That brings us to our first “first,” which saw the Oriental Theatre host a premiere for Song Sung Blue (reportedly at Jackman's request) and give us a chance to attend our very first Hollywood-ish event. In addition to Dori, Radio Milwaukee social media strategist Zoey Knox elbowed her way to the edge of the red carpet, which was appropriately blue for the occasion. So of course we invited Zoey for her first Cinebuds appearance to share her thoughts on the movie, as well as what it was like for her and Dori to interview (sort of) the one and only Hugh Jackman!!!You'll hear that admittedly brief but still wonderful chat in the full episode, which also includes our hosts' reaction to this very Milwaukee tale. Some quick highlights: Hudson really nails her portrayal of Claire Sardina, she and Jackman clearly have legit singing chops, and the general uplifting-ness of the story make this a perfect release for the holiday season.Get all of the details in this episode, and make sure you check in with us after the holiday break for another perspective on Song Sung Blue from filmmaker Jimmy Sammarco, whose 2008 documentary of the same name was instrumental to the biopic hitting theaters this Christmas.#####Cinebuds is sponsored by Joe Wilde Garage Door Company.

Send us a textStake, silver, and a whole lot of spectacle; this week we dive headfirst into Van Helsing (2004), the loud, lavish monster mash that tried to launch a new Universal era and left us with glorious chaos. We unpack why this movie still feels like a relic from a braver time in blockbuster filmmaking: a place where studios gambled on pulpy ideas, action never took a breath, and Dracula could fund Frankenstein's science to bring his bat-babies to life without irony getting in the way.We talk through the craft that often gets overlooked: the striking black-and-white prologue, clever camera choreography, map paintings that nod to classic Hollywood, and creature work that swings from impressive werewolf transformations to delightfully rubbery CGI. Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale anchor the adventure while the supporting cast leans hard into operatic camp, especially a Dracula who turns melodrama into a contact sport. At the center of the noise sits Frankenstein's monster, rendered as both eloquent and thunder-forged, the closest thing the film has to a soul. From there, we zoom out. Universal's long quest to revive its monster pantheon, theme park crossovers, and why Van Helsing tried to do in one film what today's studios stretch across phases. We compare it to Underworld, Reign of Fire, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, drawing a line between bold swings that win hearts and calculated “universes” that lose them. Along the way, expect laughs about Faramir in a bumbling turn, Jekyll and Hyde's Andre the Giant homage, and a final set piece that's equal parts juicy and joyous. If you crave throwback adventure with teeth, this one's a wild ride worth revisiting.
