We covered a lot of ground in this conversation, which is another way of saying we wandered bravely from topic to topic with the confidence of people who believe curiosity is a form of planning. It started with musical dreams, which immediately ran into taxes, because nothing crushes artistic ambition faster than discovering the government would also like a solo. From there we examined the mysterious phenomenon of celebrity wealth, which turns out to be mostly an illusion created by sunglasses, confidence, and someone else paying for lunch. Naturally this led us to government conspiracies, because once you realize famous people don’t have as much money as you think, it’s only a short hop to assuming someone is hiding something. We discussed survival skills for the collapse of society, a scenario everyone is very confident about despite having trouble assembling IKEA furniture. The Doomsday Clock came up, which is reassuring because it’s good to know the end of the world is being managed by people who own a clock. We also talked about zombies, because every serious discussion eventually circles back to zombies, the one apocalypse we’ve fully rehearsed thanks to television. Along the way we touched on personal health journeys, which mostly involve learning what foods now hate us, and food preferences, which are deeply emotional and should never be questioned. Black pepper emerged as a cultural force, gold mining as an economic mystery, and hibernation as an underutilized lifestyle choice for anyone tired of the news. In the end, the conversation proved that modern life is complicated, confusing, and possibly ending soon, but at least we can laugh about it while seasoning our food aggressively and considering a long nap.
Bob and Dave are joined by former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky live at Radio Row to get you ready for Super Bowl LX, they get a unique perspective on Sam Darnold from comedian Adam Ray, they look at how quickly the Seahawks have been able to build a successful team with former Seahawks Linebacker Chad Brown, and they look at what would have happened if the Seahawks hadn’t come back to beat the Rams in week sixteen in What If Wednesday.
First up, there's chat about tomato juice, some recent dreams, Joe overhearing a conversation about comedy podcasts and David sitting next to two farting dogs on a train. Then they start discussing which comedians they were intimidated by when first doing stand up - and then quickly realise the idea could be made into a great game. So they find a list of names on a comedy website and the quizzing begins… FOR ALL THINGS CHATABIX'Y FOLLOW/SUBSCRIBE/CONTACT: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@chatabixpodcast Insta: https://www.instagram.com/chatabixpodcast/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@chatabix Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/chatabix Merch: https://chatabixshop.com/ Contact us: chatabix@yahoo.com Learn more about your ad choices. Comedian Adam Carolla hits the nail on the head as he describes the woke virus infecting so much of Hollywood. They all want membership in the club, Carolla says, and when you see them at awards shows saying stupid things, it's their audition for membership. Katherine Rogue started not four years ago, but is wasting no time, spending as much time on stage as possible. She and Dan chat about coming up in comedy in a rural area, the trap that is feeling like you have to write new material weekly for the same crowd, and how having a background in other art forms has helped with stage presence. Also, how being observant while out helps with material, the “club” that is comedy, the vital importance of being able to pivot to other material, and the age-old advice of being honest about your time. Crowd work, comedy festivals, and if Dan has ever experienced a break-up! This episode covers it all!Katherine RogueKatherine Rogue is the matriarch of the Blacksburg, VA comedy scene. Her minivan humor can take a sharp turn as she explores observations from parenting, general life, and the upcoming doom of menopause. Katherine has been a first-round loser in Game of Jokes, the Ultimate Comic Challenge, and Blue Ridge Comedy Knockout. Zarna Garg is a stand-up comic, screenwriter, bestselling author, and one of the busiest people in comedy right now. But before she ever set foot onstage, she went to law school and tried her hand at entrepreneurship, failing at a vegan chili company, a tomato sauce brand, and even a matchmaking service. In this episode, Adam and Zarna reflect on how her daughter challenged her to consider a career pivot, debate the usefulness of a humanities degree, and break down the meticulous process that goes into developing a hit performance. Comedian and writer Alison Leiby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Broad City, The President Show) comes on to discuss her memoir "I'm a Lot", exploring deeply personal and cultural topics such as abortion, sexuality, relationships, and media representation. From there, she takes us behind the screen and reveals the ways television shapes how we see women, sex, and control. From the glossy chaos of Bravo to the tired tropes of "very special episodes," Allison and Remy unpack how pop culture scripts our ideas about abortion, pleasure, and power—and what happens when comedians rewrite those stories with honesty and humor. It's a sharp, funny, and fearless look at the TV narratives that raised us, and the new ones we're ready to tell.
