Grunge Granny is a podcast that’s in part verbalized public journal entries and part honeybee flying too close to your face—slightly uncomfortable but not enough to run away.
Ren talks about the challenges of being your own boss, how treating yourself as the ideal boss and ideal employee slowly helps heal old trauma issues, and how pricing and charging for your time can feel so vulnerable. This year is the Hanged Man year for Ren, and they discuss how that’s showing up as we feel this waning moon, the Mercury retrograde, along with this card. “Waiting” can be anxiety inducing, especially for someone with cptsd and adhd but maybe it needs to be reframed.
In this episode, we talk about obstacles and self-imposed limitations, the way we can observe them and overcome or accept them. Let’s have fun! Let’s be childish! Ren also published her book, THE THINGS YOU CAN’T CONTROL, and it’ll be available on Amazon soon, as well as launching her site: http://grungegranny.squarespace.com!
Ren talks one-on-one about the obstacles they’ve been seeing for themselves and how they’ve had to adjust their own goal setting. From more efficient time management to self-sabotage and reframing limiting beliefs, let’s see how to prepare for this retrograde with compassion for ourselves and our own fear.
The Uranus retrograde had just ended right in time for the new Capricorn moon and everything says to declutter. We talked about why we can or can’t declutter, the feelings that come up when we do, and all the things that made us think of with that (identity, how we define ourselves, what’s performative, and more!).
Warning: profanity is present! Ren and Zane catch up and talk about the biggest lessons from 2020, how that’s guiding 2021, internal growth and trauma healing, therapy, our cards for the year, and why can’t women just be everything and anything they wanna be.
Ren talks about triggers, trigger warnings, balance, discomfort, and figuring out what it is we need to look at within ourselves.
2020 kicked butts but 2021 is a whole new adventure. We’re figuring out what works best for us and how to be more ourselves. We’re learning how to stand confident in our abilities and our own calling. Will it be for nought? We’ll see!
Week 14 of the pandemic, week 4 of current civil rights movement—It feels like we hear bad news after bad news and things feel so thick and intense. It’s like when people ask you what you’d do if you had one year left to live, except within our current confines—how would look back and wish you’d spent your time? We have six planets in retrograde right after a solar eclipse and a cancer new moon—set your intentions now.
We are starting week 13 of the pandemic and week 3 of a worldwide Civil Rights Movement. As a latinx/Filipino person, I had some things to say.
I’m listening to my intuition and tarot cards and working on healing from childhood trauma, working on looking the things I’m afraid of head on, and being proud of any and all progress I make.
Zane comes to visit and Kagan and Ren get all wine boozed to discuss Capricorn new moon and end of the year reflections. We get off track, this episode is way too long, but it’s fun and hey, whatever, because let’s embrace ourselves and quit trying to hide our flaws!
This has been a roooouuuggh one for me—has it been for anyone else? I talk about NaNoWriMo, shadow work, claiming ownership of oneself, and what to leave behind with this upcoming new year but also with this moon cycle ending and Mercury retrograde ending soon! I start out reading the most recent blog post and then elaborate on it, with some extra thoughts and explanations.
Hi friends! This impending mercury retrograde and finishing moon cycle isn’t doing anyone any favors when it comes to our shadow sides but I couldn’t procrastinate out of fear any longer. This is a little about tarot, herbs, meditation and ways that we determine our value and worthiness outside of ourselves when it should be inside of ourselves. I hope some helps! Zane, Kagan, and Ren are back to more concisely share with you their New Moon in Libra intentions and how they plan on getting there. Kagan does tarot readings and gives spiritual consultations and can be found on Facebook at CYOS Readings. Zane posts about her progress and growth via her Instagram at LibraryFaerie. As always, you can get in touch with me at grungegrannycreates@gmail.com or keep up with me on Instagram at Grunge.Granny or Facebook at GrungeGrannyCreative. Thank you!
Zane, Kagan, and Ren discuss moon cycles, intentions and the Pisces Full Moon. (To be updated with individual info!) There are some audio glitches and spots where we lost contact with Zane and I had intended on editing that out but psyched myself out with the pressure of editing and kept procrastinating publishing this. Seeing as all of our issues had something to do with productivity and it’s connection to how we and others see us as valuable, I figured we’ll all just deal with us figuring out our first episode together. Transparency! We’re all learning! It’ll be stronger and better next time! Kagan does tarot readings and gives spiritual consultations and can be found on Facebook at CYOS Readings. This is the first time I’m reading directly from one of my blog posts (and I messed up on some editing—lol) but this was an important message for me and thought maybe it’ll be important for other people. I’m learning how to let go and not allow my own fear, which may be justified, lead to emotionally charged responses. ———————————————————————- *** Links! *** www.patreon.com/GrungeGranny and www.grungegranny.com. Hi folx! Ren here. I vended! I had readings! I had messages from spirit and damn did I find some clarity. But messages and intention don’t matter as much as the actions you take to follow through and that’s what this is about. ———————————————————————- *** Links! *** www.patreon.com/GrungeGranny and www.grungegranny.com. Ren updates on how they’ve been making tangible, visible, and physical steps toward claiming their own authority and are Doing the Things even if it’s haphazard and even if it’s not a hundred percent every time (because that’s how you fight the perfectionism monster!). Plus, there’s beauty in the process and damn, if this isn’t a process. ———————— *** Links! *** www.patreon.com/GrungeGranny and www.grungegranny.com. Hi! This is Ren. In this episode, I share what this last mercury retrograde brought me and how I’m sticking to my Goals to Grow Into with these new lessons. One of which is how I am violating my own personal mantra of not ever treating people as though their current identities are made up of their past faults. Also, how forcing oneself to be “okay” in a situation that may require a different method of coping might actually be a form of self-harm and projection. Please let me know if you had any good discoveries during this last mercury retrograde—it’s one of my favorite topics! **Links mentioned: www.patreon.com/GrungeGranny and www.grungegranny.com. This episode stays nearly all about the update on my Goals to Grow Into. I had multiple epiphanies on how to set boundaries and how sometimes the hardest person to say no to is myself. I update on why I’m bad making friends, what happened with the recent friendship I was developing, the epiphanies I had during that and how I’m possibly self-isolating. I bring up the Ten Things again because I AM working on bringing more fun into my life and am determined to complete some of these by the end of the year! Ren makes progress on their goals to grow into and says no! They also realize that the challenge of the Mundane Everyday Walkabout isn’t to trudge on through the things wearing you out until you’re complacent, but to find ways to actually fix what is a problem and face your fears! Ren faltered with the socializing goal but will fix it. Inspired by the podcast, Happier, Ren wants to list Ten Things for the rest of 2019 to do! These are small and fun things that can be done semi-locally—unless you’re not local and have ideas! To send in ideas or what you would put on your list: grungegrannycreates@gmail.com or you can leave a voice message at this link: https://anchor.fm/grungegranny/message.
In this episode, Ren asks what differentiates the difficulties of the mundane-every-day from an actual walk-about and why not make the every day into our own life-altering, self-discovering experience? In this episode Ren talks about simple coping mechanisms you can do in your day-to-day, including suggestions from others! Ren also goes back to the first episode to give an update on their goals for the decade and thoughts on walkabouts to discuss for next week! Coping mechanisms when your work-life balance leaves you depressed and anxious.
Since it’s right after Mother’s Day, this episode is three lessons from my mother, followed by three lessons from motherhood. **Edit: I mention my mother being bipolar and also manic depressive. I know these terms are interchangeable now but at the time, that’s how she was diagnosed (as though it was in addition to and not a different phrase for the same thing. Since I recorded this all in one take, I didn’t feel like going through and relistening to that part just to edit it.*
This is the first episode of Grunge Granny! Ren starts off with goals to grow into for the next decade following their 30th birthday: 1. Do the hard things (finally do this podcast) 2. Commit and commit largely (dedicate the time and energy to my passions in large—not minimal—ways) 3. Be my own hype-human (fighting issues with self-worth by promoting personal endeavors without apology).
