Most of the humans on planet Earth have never witnessed that the natural night sky is not dark; but rather it is alive with it's own lights. To see for yourself, pick a dark sky place near you like the Cosmic Campground International Dark Sky Sanctuary from the International Dark Sky Association's website, darksky.org, and recruit a friend. Do a bit of research on how to achieve and sustain your night vision. Bring a red filtered flashlight, reclining lawn chair, star maps, binoculars, warm clothes, a telescope if you have one, and snacks. Keep on the look out for special events. The American Meteor Society's website will let you know when to expect meteor showers. Most humans have never seen the glowing light pyramid called the Zodiacal light which is produced by ice particles and dust in the solar system. In the northern hemisphere it is prominent in the evening sky in February, March and April. During the same months it lights up the predawn sky in the southern hemisphere. Star clusters scattered around the sky can be enjoyed with binoculars or a small telescope. New Moon's from May through October will provide you opportunities to explore the Milky Way with your naked eye or pair of binoculars. This adventure will fill you with wonder at what might be out there. Last but not least Mars will dominate the night sky during much of 2018 as it and the Earth come near to each other. For a time in late July of 2018 Mars will even outshine the giant planet Jupiter in the night sky.

This week asks you to start something new while missing roughly a third of the information, and it is dead serious about both parts. Mercury is retrograde in Cancer, which means the old emotional stories, the ones you've told so many times they calcified into biography, are getting pulled back out of the drawer and re-read with fresh eyes. Some of the details were wrong. Some of the narration was somebody else's voice. And right into the middle of that revision process drops a new moon in the exact same sign, tapping its watch, saying it's time for a fresh start on the very material you're still fact-checking.That's the tension, and honestly, that's the assignment. You are being asked to make a new beginning in your emotional life, in what safety means to you, in how you nurture and get nurtured, without waiting for the fog to burn off first. Cancer would rather not. Cancer is a crab for a reason, hard shell, claws, deeply committed to the familiar. But everything else in the sky this week is conspiring to make the leap feel less like a leap and more like a door that's already open. Uranus spends the week in close conversation with Neptune and Pluto, which is a rare combination that says: the wild new dream you've been circling is not a delusion, it has legs, it has staying power, go ahead and believe it. So the week holds both. The Long Cycles Become VisibleSomething unusual is happening in the sky this month.Not just the weekly transits. Something larger. A convergence of long cycles that rarely become visible all at once — briefly illuminated in ways that allow us to feel their presence and direction. This week I am taking more time than usual to orient you in that larger field before walking the specific transits.The Three Long CyclesIn astrology, when two outer planets meet in conjunction, they seed a cycle that unfolds over generations. Three of these great cycles were seeded in the last 130 years. This month all three are being activated simultaneously.Neptune conjunct Pluto in Gemini, late 1890s. Gemini governs mind, language, communication, and how reality is constructed and shared. This conjunction seeded a revolution in all of those domains — mass media, the discovery of the unconscious, technologies that transformed how human beings perceive and communicate. The AI emergence, the fracturing of shared reality, the speed at which language and information now move — this is that Gemini cycle in its current expression.Uranus conjunct Pluto in Virgo, mid-1960s. Virgo governs the body, healing, and the relationship between the individual and the systems they inhabit. This conjunction seeded a revolution in identity and power — civil rights, feminism, the environmental movement, the questioning of who gets to belong and on whose terms. The wounds of who has been excluded, whose body deemed less valuable, whose labor extracted — this cycle is still metabolizing in the collective body.Uranus conjunct Neptune in Capricorn, early 1990s. Capricorn governs structure, authority, and the institutions that organize collective life. This conjunction seeded the dissolution of old structures of collective meaning — the fall of the Soviet Union, globalization, the beginning of the internet age, the slow unraveling of institutional frameworks that once held collective life together. Those structures have never been fully replaced. What is breaking down in collective systems right now is this Capricorn cycle in its current expression.This month, through flowing trines and sextiles, all three cycles are being activated simultaneously. This is why many people are experiencing this time as both overwhelming and somehow significant in a way they cannot quite name.
