He carefully encourages the Corinthians to recognize his open and honest presentation of both his past and of the gospel, warning against those who seek approval based upon their outward appearance and not their heart. God has chosen those whom He would for salvation and He has divinely predestined them to do good works. Men will receive rewards for those good works but not for works they should have done but did not. Men will also be held accountable although not for punishment sake as the punishment for sin was taken by Christ at the cross. Though God has predestined the good works, because of His sovereignty, He can and does hold men responsible for their good works. Divine sovereignty in no way negates human responsibility. Paul continues his observation started in 2 Corinthians 4:16 that the temporal body is temporary but the resurrection body is eternal. He longs for the time when the temporary body will be done away with and he will receive his glorified body. God delights in using imperfect messengers to communicate the beauty of the Gospel. Paul spent his adult life spreading the Gospel. He was afflicted, persecuted, and pursued but never abandoned or despairing. In this section, Paul reminds the Corinthians that he had a shameful past but he has renounced it. His handling of the word of God has been pure and straightforward for their benefit. He allows that if the gospel is veiled, it is so because of the blinded and wicked minds of unbelievers. Their minds are blinded out of pride and wickedness and are further rendered blind because of the actions of Satan himself, the god of this world. Paul has made a conscious commitment by the grace of the Holy Spirit to focus solely on the Lord Jesus Christ preaching Him and rendering himself a slave to the church at Corinth as he does to every other church that he serves. The self-imposed veil that obscures our view of the Lord Jesus Christ is removed from the elect at salvation. It remains with unbelievers. Once removed, ministers of Christ who are the Church, are sanctified day by day, step by step to become the letter of commendation that Paul references in chapter 3:1. The true liberty that the Holy Spirit gives, frees God's ministers to do the works He planned for them before time began. Paul here reminds the Corinthians that the glory of the Old Testament pales in comparison to the glory of the New Testament and the work of the Lord Jesus Christ consummating everything the Old Testament pointed to and anticipated. His speeches bold and to the point, because he has the truth-the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
