Sunday messages from The Meeting Place Church in Nanaimo, BC.
In light of what the world is facing with the spread of the coronavirus we wanted to take some time to remind ourselves that we don’t have to be afraid. This is a chance for us as the church to shine and be a beacon of hope, sowers of peace not panic, cultivators of calm not chaos. You are the light of the world - let’s go shine!Watch Here
Often life is described as a journey down a road. If that’s true, then along that road we will experience crossroads, intersections, exit ramps, and detours that will cause us to stop and make a decision regarding which direction to go. The purpose of this series is to look at ways and truths that can help us better navigate those crossroads. Watch Here
Everybody has faith…in something. Regardless of religion, philosophy or how we think life works, we all trust in something that we believe will help us when life doesn’t make sense. So if we all have it (faith) what is it exactly? How does it work? And in what or who should I have my faith anchored? That’s what this series is about. Watch Here

Monopoly, Battleship, Risk & Life are just some of the games people have played for years. In lots of ways these games reflect how we approach real life. Monopoly is about getting rich, Risk is about defeating our enemies, Battleship is about seeking out and destroying our opponent, and Life, well some of us just spin the wheel and hope for the best. Join us as we use The Games We Play as a metaphor to learn a better way to do life.Watch Here

If you read through the first four books of the New Testament, you’ll learn that Jesus taught that faith which leads to a better life is not simply a matter of believing the right set of religious facts or information. He taught that life changing faith is about taking what you believe to be true about life and about God and APPLYING it to our daily circumstances. In this series, we are going to be looking at some key truths from the Bible that, when applied, can actually make a difference in our lives.Watch Here

Over-worked. Over-stressed. Over-needed. Over-scheduled. We are expected to live a certain kind of lifestyle, own the right things, have it all together. At some point, it’s just too much. We get overwhelmed. So what can we do? How do we step back from these demands? How do we ground ourselves in something other than other people’s expectations? Those are some of the questions we’re going to explore so we can cope when we’re feeling Overwhelmed.

One of the main teachings Jesus has for those who follow him is that they are called to love their neighbours. Which raises the question - who is my neighbour? It’s a great question and the answer just might surprise you!
Pastor and theologian Charles Spurgeon once said, “It is beyond the realm of possibilities that one has the ability to out give God.” Today we are going to hear as Peter Sinclair, the director of Nanaimo’s local food bank Loaves & Fishes shares how he sees this reality play out everyday. It truly is remarkable to see and hear how it really is impossible to out give God.
What's in a name? The simple truth is there is a lot in a name. Just think about it. Parents agonize over the names of their children; it is not a simple casual decision. Some of you were named after some famous person or a beloved member of your family. There is something significant behind your name. The same is true for the many names of God found in the Bible. Provider, Sustainer, Anchor, Rock and many more, each name of God holds deep significance about an aspect of what He is like. For the next few weeks we’re going to hear from people who call this place home, about their personal experience with the God who created us has revealed a specific aspect of God and His associated name.

What makes a good movie? Is it special effects? Great car chases? Talking racoons? Special effects with talking racoons in car chases?A good movie makes you lose yourself in the story. You get an escape from the daily grind if only for while. But a great movie? A great movie is one that you and your friends end up talking about, debating the meaning of different scenes while driving in the car or standing around the water cooler. A great movie is one that raises questions, makes you wonder, that sits in the back of your mind long after the credits roll. For the next few weeks we’re going to look at some movies and try to grasp what it is about their stories that touch us at such a deep level. And more than that, we’re going to learn that the stories in these films touch us because they touch on the larger story that God has written and called each of us to be a part of in this world.

Every car has a way of letting the driver know if something is wrong. There are dials, gauges and lights that let us know how the engine is running. If ignored it can lead to costly repairs or worse, yet we often ignore these warnings. Our hearts operate in a similar fashion and all too often we don’t pay attention to the gauges and dials in our lives that alert us when things aren’t operating the way they should. In this series we’re going to explore some simple ways that will help us last over the long haul.

Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Terry Fox, Martin Luther King Jr. Just a few of the people we call History Makers because they offered what they had and made a difference. It can be easy to dismiss what we have to offer couldn’t possibly make a difference to anyone. But is that true? That’s what we’re going to explore and the answer may surprise you.

Your life is a story, a series of moments that show where you have been, that highlight who you are and what will define your next chapter.Glenn's story is a story of peaks and valleys, light and dark, hopelessness and hope because through it all God was there. The one thing Glenn hopes is clear, is that no matter where you are in your story, no matter what you’ve done or what’s been done to you, God is there with His arms wide open waiting to embrace you and walk with you.
What do you see in this picture? A woman looking off into the distance or do you see a man sleeping? Both? The point is there are times when we can be looking at the same thing and yet see something different. What do you see when you look at yourself, others and the Easter story? That’s the question we’ll be exploring.

It’s something we often say to our kids to wish them a good night’s sleep. But often our dreams aren’t so sweet and our sleep not so good. Over the next few weeks we’re going to explore some of the things that tend to keep us up at night and look at some practical ways from the Bible that can help us to keep from tossing and turning and have Sweet Dreams.

Who cares. Who cares! Who cares? We've all said the phrase in different ways. It can be a statement or a question. It can reflect a lack of concern or a genuine concern. And what does God care about? What's He really looking for? What makes Him smile? What does He want us to care about? Who does He want us to care for? That’s what we’ll be exploring. https://www.compassion.ca/
