We are back with a fresh episode, and it's all about our favourite thing - food! We take you through Poppy's food journey from the time she was born right up until now. From breastfeeding, to purees, to enchiladas and pastas! It's a difficult journey filled with anxiety and worry, but also laughter and joy. The most important thing is that the food journey with your baby is YOUR journey with YOUR baby. There is so much information on how you should be feeding, and how they should be progressing that it can be overwhelming. Do you! As always you can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
Hey, look at us. Look at us. Back to back weeks with a fresh episode! This week we dig into everything sleep. From the 10 month journey in Poppy's patterns thus far, to products that work best for us, to how the wedding screwed everything up, to how we're preparing for daycare! We'd love to hear if you've experienced the same with your little one, or maybe what we talk about will help you prepare with yours! You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
Well, after a quick 20+ week hiatus, we are back with a fresh episode! We apologize, life sort of got in the way. We were renovating, we were planning a wedding, and trying to keep up with our wee one. Things have settled a little bit, and we're back! Don't worry, we tell you all about it in this episode!
We're here, and we're tired. If we sound a little bit quieter than usual, it's because we've got a sick baby in the house! Poppy has developed her first viral infection, and she's okay but a little needier than usual and has a nasty cough. We've also started sleep training to some moderate success, and we'd like to share the various methods we've researched and what we're trying. This weekend, we're going to a Blue Jays game so it will be the first time both of us will be away from Poppy for an extended period of time! As always, you can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
And we're back! Thank you for sticking with us through our mini hiatus. Life gets hectic with a baby, plus Ali and Poppy had a quick vacation to the East Coast! We talk about travelling with a baby - what you should take and what's hard. We catch you up on all of Poppy's personality advancements, and what her new bed time has done to improve our relationship. We're so happy to be back and chatting about being parents! 18 Weeks already, where does the time go? You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
And we're back! We paused last week in order to have our house painted, so Ali, Poppy and Neffie took a mini vacation. Lots to talk about this week! We toured Poppy's future daycare facility and it was both exciting and scary. Poppy has become completely obsessed with putting her hands in her mouth, and the dreaded sleep regression hass begun. She had spent most of the first 14 weeks sleeping peacefully through the night but not anymore! Just when we think we have the answers, she changes the questions. We also discuss all the wonderful ways our lives have changed since Poppy arrived, including less time and money wasted, the discovery of audio books and guilt free leisure time! Hello and Happy Saturday! A quick note - something happened with our Apple Podcasts feed last week and the episode was not published (it was available elsewhere) - it should be fixed and back up for anybody who wants to go back and listen, it was one of our favourite episodes! This week we give you an update on Poppy - she smiles and laughs to Sesame Street now! It's the best. We also discuss the things we wish we knew before we became parents, such as time not being your own, how it takes forever to go anywhere, the difficulties of napping and our mental health. We round out the episode talking about our favourite thing from this week with Pop! As always, you can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
This week we catch you up on Poppy's new napping habits, as in during the day she decides she doesn't want to! We had a fussy baby on our hands, but car rides seem to help baby and mommy. We also get into some of the harder parts of parenthood, including mental health, doubt and guilt and how to spend enough time on our relationship. We also discuss what it's like taking Poppy places, and our concern with leaving her with family when we want to have a date night or go to the Blue Jays game in July. We wouldn't change anything for the world and the good far outweighs the bad, but there are definitely harder parts! You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
Look at us, we made it to 10 episodes! Nice milestone when adding a whole new human to the house. This week we talk about the week that was, including Poppy's two month check up, meaning her first round of immunizations. Spoiler: not so fun! We also got caught in the brutal Ontario storms on Saturday that lead us to missing out on Poppy's first baseball game, but we made the most of it! Being that it's 10 episodes, we thought it would be fun to discuss all the things that made us nervous and anxious in the first few weeks, versus how we handle them now. Amazing how quickly things can change in such a short period of time. Our question of the week discusses our favourite memories with Pop so far! You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
We're back with another Top 5 List - The Most Essential Items! We go through the 5 things we couldn't live with out, and would love your feedback if you agree, disagree or have suggestions of your own! We also go through the week that was, including Ali's first Mother's Day, our family photo session, and Tyler's MRI (it wasn't as scary as we thought!) We also ask each other which of the essential items is our favourite! You can follow our journey on instagram @NewParentsPod
Well, it happened. Tyler experienced what it's like for a child to have a complete meltdown and nobody around to help! It was an interesting Sunday evening when Ali went to the movies. Oh, he also messed up Ali's first Mother's Day. Off to a good start! But, in other news, Poppy is sleeping better, feeding better and her congestion seems to have cleared away as she approaches the 2 month mark. We discuss our current mental states and whether or not we want to have more kids! You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
Poppy had her first night out at a restaurant! She ordered the steak, but didn't eat much of it. Typical. It was a busy week progressing on our home renovations and wedding planning - Poppy has also decided that evenings are for screaming. We have a Top 5 List for you - 'The Top 5 Ways Our Lives Have Changed' since becoming new parents! Spoiler: Life changes a lot! But if you're about to be a new parent, it should prepare you for what's to come. For the question of the week, we talk about what has been the least challenging part so far! You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
Remember when we said we didn't have a fussy baby? WELP! We've got us a fussy gassy little girl, and with the help of a great book we're learning how to calm her down and get her to nap. Tyler was sick for much of the week leaving Ali to fend for herself and it didn't go too badly - Tyler did miss changing diapers though (weird). Ali discusses post partum mental health struggles and the process of receiving help, and we learn how challenging both can be. We also have argued more, but it's all just part of the game! The question of the week, what misconception did we have during pregnancy that has been different after Poppy? You can follow and interact with our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
A bit of a shorter episode this week as we celebrate the Easter Weekend BUT we do give you an update on Poppy, including a precautionary trip to the doctor to make sure her breathing is okay. The item of the week is something so simple, but it's been so incredibly helpful in getting us through the night. We talk a little bit about mental health struggles from both sides (which we will really get into next week), and our question of the week discusses some of the best advice we've received so far! You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
Poppy is officially out of the Newborn stage and has become a Baby - she has turned 1 month! We are very happy to say she is happy and healthy, having 3 doctor's appointments this week, including a heart murmur follow up which we haven't discussed previously. Ali has started pumping so Tyler can give her a break! We also discuss the pitfalls of following new parents and newborns on social media - how do they always make it seem so perfect and easy?! We'd love some suggestions and advice on stimulating activities for Poppy now that she's a month old! You can follow our journey and interact with us on Instagram @NewParentsPod
This week on the pod we introduce a new segment - Item of the Week! As new parents, we're acquiring all kinds of wacky new things to help with Poppy, and we're excited to share our favourites! After the heaviness of the last 2 episodes, this one is a bit lighter as we joke about the first projectile poop that nailed Ali, as well as our guilt for feeling like it hasn't been too difficult.. yet? We talk about the new daycare costs in Ontario and how long the wait list for Poppy to get in, and we're taking suggestions for engaging things for Ali to do while breast feeding five hours a day! We wrap it up with our question of the week!
This week we provide you with an update on week 2 with Poppy! Spoiler - she's doing really well! She (for now, fingers crossed, knock on wood) is able to sleep pretty well through the night. This episode discusses our journey to our first born. Tyler went through testicular cancer in 2016, so there was always doubt whether or not children would be an option, and Poppy has brought that journey full circle. In 2020, Ali had an ectopic pregnancy that was rather traumatizing. We tell both of these stories, and why that makes Poppy extra special to us. As always, you can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
Welcome to the debut episode of New Parents Podcast! Our beautiful baby girl, Poppy, has arrived and she came into the world at 7 pounds 11 ounces. We'll give you the birth story, including labour, the birth, and the dreadful 3 full days in a hospital room! But we are home and happy, and we'll also share our favourite part about being new parents, and what we've learned so far! You can follow our journey on Instagram @NewParentsPod
