Openers and Closers is a music podcast hosted by Davey Francis and Ryan Hardwick. The show invites it's guests to bring on their earliest recordings to listen and compare with their most recent. The early stuff is never the easiest to listen to and checking it out nearly a lifetime later can be more than slightly cringe worthy. Everybody had a first day once and, provided they weren't entirely discouraged, they probably got a whole lot better. We want to hear about that progression through the music artists have created across their careers. How they went from their first day to wherever they are now!
In the final episode of season one, Ryan explains in staggering detail almost everything that has ever happened to him since he turned 13. From putting ad's in a local paper looking for a band to being the architect for some of Cleveland's most exciting punk bands Ryan has seen a lot, and has a lot to say about all of it. Once again we're joined by Dj Hall of the band Seeress to round out the Cleveland brethren. Thanks for an awesome first season. We're taking a little time off to put Season 2 together and hope to be back in the near future. https://lastgaspoh.bandcamp.com/ https://seeress.bandcamp.com/ Http://DaveyFrancis.com/ https://instagram.com/openersandclosers/
EPISODE 7! This week we chat with fellow clevelander, Sean Bilovecky who has been all over the place both figuratively and literally in his music career. Sean takes us back to the days of 4 track tapes then brings into the future, er... present? with a flawless recording created in a home studio. As per usual, we all ruminate on getting older and Sean gives Ryan a pep talk. Check out Frayle... https://frayle.bandcamp.com/
Part 2 in the trilogy of three old friends examining their careers in music. This week Dj brings the earliest recordings he's appeared on and we see how the viking metal band known as The Seeress Prophecy became the cinematic post rock group named Seeress. Excuse some of the audio issues of this episode. This was the first episode we recorded for the show and we were still getting our act together. https://seeress.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/SeeressBand
Justin Pearson takes some time to talk to us about the San Diego punk scene, his first band, Struggle, and we check out a brand new song from his new project Deaf Club. deafclub31g.bandcamp.com threeoneg.com
It'd be unfair to make a show about listening to old and possible embarrassing recordings if the hosts weren't willing to share their oldest material too. It's Davey's turn in the hot seat on this episode where we listen to his high school band Lodi and check in with some very different new material He's releasing. Dj Hall of the band Seeres joins the show for moral support.
Ryan had to sit this one out so Davey enlisted the help of Rupert Fisher of All Human/Fear Before The March Of Flames to sit in on co-hosting duties. Rupert takes some time to sit Goose down on the compliment couch while he shows off the vast gulf between his 7th grade nu-metal outfit Riot Dawgz and Every Time i Die's new single Post Boredom. Everyone learns that goose has probably been great at drums since birth. Find Goose and ETID at... instagram.com/everytimeidie/ Find Ruper at... Instagram.com/allhuman Note: Some technical difficulties led to light audio issues and we had to use the Zoom audio.
Tobias of Soft Kill joins us to chat about scene politics, east coast hardcore, and navigating the modern music industry. We listen to a track from Hellish Death Strike, Tobias' very first band from 1998, and check out the most recent single from Soft Kill. On this Episode Ryan and Davey chat with Ryan Fletterick of Cleveland's Oregon Space Trail of Doom. The guys get into early influences, pretentious old jazz musicians, and learning how to network in cliquey music scene. Episode features a track from Fletterick's earliest band Trios titled Mystery In The Woods as well as one of OSTOD's newest songs New Perceptions from their forthcoming release Time is a Mirror. oregonspacetrailofdoom.com/ oregonspacetrailofdoom.bandcamp.com/ www.instagram.com/oregonspacetrailofdoom/?hl=en (technical difficulties kicked Davey off the call for the final portion of this interview)
