The Ducks Unlimited Podcast is adding a new voice — and a new perspective. In this episode, host Dr. Mike Brasher and co‑host Dr. Jerad Henson introduce Wade Shoemaker, the newest member of the DU Podcast team. Wade brings a fresh, field‑driven perspective rooted in years of experience as a passionate, everyday duck hunter.Growing up in North Louisiana, Wade's journey into waterfowling didn't begin with perfect hunts or polished knowledge — it started like it does for many hunters: borrowed gear, cold mornings, and figuring things out along the way. That path, along with a strong appreciation for community and relationships, shaped his approach to hunting and storytelling.Throughout the conversation, Wade shares how his love for waterfowl expanded from local hunts to traveling across multiple flyways, experiencing different regions, techniques, and cultures. From flooded timber to prairie hunts and coastal marshes, those experiences have given him a broad perspective he now brings to the podcast. The addition of Wade represents a shift toward blending perspectives — combining on-the-ground hunting experience with Ducks Unlimited's science, conservation, and policy expertise. His role will help connect everyday hunters with deeper insights while keeping the conversation grounded in real-world experiences. This episode sets the stage for what's ahead: more stories, more perspectives, and a new connection between the people who hunt and the science and conservation that support it.Listen now: www.ducks.org/DUPodcastSend feedback: DUPodcast@ducks.orgSPONSORS:Purina Pro Plan: The official performance dog food of Ducks UnlimitedWhether you're a seasoned hunter or just getting started, this episode is packed with valuable insights into the world of waterfowl hunting and conservation.Bird Dog Whiskey and Cocktails:Whether you're winding down with your best friend, or celebrating with your favorite crew, Bird Dog brings award-winning flavor to every moment. Great outdoor gear doesn't just perform — it tells a story. In this episode of the DUX Series, host Jimbo Robinson is joined by co‑host David Schuessler and guest Radcliffe Menge, founder and CEO of Tom Beckbe, a brand built on heritage materials, modern design, and a deep connection to the outdoor lifestyle.Recorded ahead of the upcoming DUX Waterfowl Show, this conversation explores how Tom Beckbe grew from a single custom waxed jacket into a full-scale outdoor apparel brand. Radcliffe shares how the company has stayed intentionally focused — blending traditional materials like waxed cotton with updated fit and function to serve today's hunter while honoring the past. The discussion also dives into what makes waxed cotton unique, why durability and longevity matter more than ever, and how classic outdoor gear continues to resonate with both hunters and a broader audience drawn to authenticity.Along the way, they talk about the rapid growth of the DUX show, the success of the Ducks Unlimited collaboration line, and what's coming next — including new gear and the return of the now-iconic “cabin” booth experience. At its core, this episode is about craftsmanship, patience, and building something meant to last — both in product and in brand.Listen now: www.ducks.org/DUPodcastSend feedback: DUPodcast@ducks.orgSPONSORS:Purina Pro Plan: The official performance dog food of Ducks UnlimitedWhether you're a seasoned hunter or just getting started, this episode is packed with valuable insights into the world of waterfowl hunting and conservation.Bird Dog Whiskey and Cocktails:Whether you're winding down with your best friend, or celebrating with your favorite crew, Bird Dog brings award-winning flavor to every moment. George Brett spent 21 years with the Kansas City Royals and never played a single game for anyone else — which in today's era of free agency feels almost quaint. He's the only player in baseball history to win batting titles in three different decades ('76, '80, '90), hit .390 in 1980 — the closest anyone has come to .400 since Ted Williams — and finished with 3,154 career hits before a first-ballot Hall of Fame induction in 1999. Oh, and he led the Royals to their only World Series title in 1985. Not bad for a kid from Hermosa Beach, California. Of course, if you ask most casual fans what they remember, there's a decent chance they skip the batting titles and go straight to the Pine Tar Incident of 1983 — Brett homers off Goose Gossage, the umpire calls him out, and he comes flying out of the dugout in what remains one of the greatest displays of barely-contained human rage in sports history. Frank White had warned him it might be coming, and Brett told him "if they call me out, I'll kill one of those SOB's." Less than a second later he was being physically restrained from doing exactly that to 6'5 home plate umpire Tim McClelland. Back in June of 1976, though, Brett was just 23 years old on the cover of Sports Illustrated, already flashing the talent and competitiveness that would define his career — and Kansas City was clearly building something worth watching. On Past Our Prime, Brett takes us inside all of it — how his brother Ken made him believe a big league career was possible, how rivals like Schmidt, Reggie, and Goose became close friends after years of battles including a bench-clearing brawl with another pal, Graig Nettles of the Yankees, in the '77 ALCS, and why he's called Kansas City home ever since the Royals drafted him in 1971. A Hall of Famer in every sense — George Brett on the Past Our Prime podcast. Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Decoy carving lives at the intersection of hunting, history, and personal expression. In this episode, host Katie Burke sits down with Josh Brewer, decoy carver, at the North American Decoy Collectors Association show — a unique gathering where hotel rooms turn into galleries, workshops, and meeting spaces for collectors and artists alike. The conversation explores what it means to make decoys today: balancing tradition with innovation, function with form, and personal creativity with the expectations of collectors. Josh shares how his work has evolved, why simplifying design can be harder than adding detail, and how spending time around real birds continues to shape his craft. They also dig into the process behind building full decoy rigs, the importance of movement and realism on the water, and why carving remains deeply rooted in experience rather than just technique.Along the way, Josh reflects on learning as an artist, raising kids in the craft, and why passing along knowledge matters just as much as producing great work. This episode offers an authentic look at the mindset behind modern decoy carving — and why it remains one of the most meaningful connections between hunters and waterfowl.Listen now: www.ducks.org/DUPodcastSend feedback: DUPodcast@ducks.orgSPONSORS:Purina Pro Plan: The official performance dog food of Ducks UnlimitedWhether you're a seasoned hunter or just getting started, this episode is packed with valuable insights into the world of waterfowl hunting and conservation.Bird Dog Whiskey and Cocktails:Whether you're winding down with your best friend, or celebrating with your favorite crew, Bird Dog brings award-winning flavor to every moment. Canadian waterfowling finds itself at a pivotal moment. As more American hunters head north in search of ducks and geese, participation among Canadian residents continues to decline, raising questions about the future of the country's hunting traditions. Rob Olson, a former leader with both Delta Waterfowl and the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, was at the forefront of efforts to establish safeguards in Manitoba before hunting pressure reached a tipping point. Now, he's helping neighboring Saskatchewan navigate similar challenges as policymakers, hunters, and conservationists work to protect Canada's rich waterfowling heritage for future generations.Send us Fan MailAll Rights Reserved. Goose challenges men to look at one of the clearest differences between Christianity and man-made religion: the way they treat sex, women, marriage, and self-denial.From ancient idol worship to modern sexual identity movements, Goose argues that when men reject the one true God, they almost always replace Him with sexual pleasure, power, and self-worship. But Jesus calls men to something completely different: deny yourself, flee sexual immorality, love your wife sacrificially, and follow the way, the truth, and the life. This episode should make men think seriously about what they believe and who they follow.Follow Men's AllianceInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/mensalliancetribe/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/mensalliancetribeTiktok - https://www.tiktok.com/@mensalliancetribeWebsite - https://www.mensalliancetribe.com/Explore Battlefield Coaching today and find yourself a Coach with experience overcoming a battle you are currently facing - https://battlefieldcoaching.comOrder the Book - Answer With Truth: The Ambassador's Field Manual for Leading Your Family Spiritually - https://amzn.to/3BmnuKV

From there, things get unexpectedly historical: Tom breaks down the story of the guy who invented the meter and got guillotined for it, which leads them down a rabbit hole of people killed for their big ideas, the French Revolution as the original cancel culture, and Martin Luther versus the Catholic Church. Then it gets personal — Bert tells the full Patrice O'Neal story: getting destroyed at his first open mic, the Edinburgh trip where they lived together for 29 days watching Bruce Lee movies and Bert getting his feelings systematically demolished, and the moment he found out Patrice had tweeted something kind about him right before the stroke. Tom and Bert also spiral deep into funeral planning — who's required to show up, who gets a Sandler video instead of a live appearance, why Ari's funeral is going to involve hardcore Brooklyn relatives and a lot of confusion, the Andrew Schultz balloon clown apology Bert wants delivered posthumously, and whether or not to get cremated when science might figure something out. It's Marvel Monday and meet Marvel's most powerful hero! ABOUT CAPTAIN MARVEL Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR CAPTAIN MARVEL March 8, 2019 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF CAPTAIN MARVEL Directors: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck Writers: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Geneva Robertson-Dworet Cast: Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS Carol Danvers is living her best amnesia life on the Kree homeworld of Hala under the name Vers. Got it? Good. She's got superpowers, cool space suits, and a mentor named Yon-Rogg who constantly tells her to stop feeling. The Kree government, which is basically run by a giant AI lady, insists that the evil shape-shifting Skrulls ruined her life and since Carol remembers absolutely nothing, so she just rolls with it. While on a mission to rescue a Kree spy, things immediately go sideways. The Skrulls capture Carol and start digging around in her memories, discovering that she used to be an Air Force pilot on Earth. Their leader Talos becomes very interested in a scientist named Dr. Wendy Lawson and a mysterious light-speed engine. Carol escapes before they get all the answers and crash-lands straight into a Blockbuster Video in 1995 Los Angeles. Her arrival gets the attention of a young Nick Fury, who still has two working eyes and spends most of this movie being confused. After a series of chases, explosions, and Skrulls impersonating anyone they want, Carol starts uncovering pieces of her past. She learns that she wasn't born on Hala at all—she was an Air Force pilot presumed dead after a crash years earlier. As Carol & Nick follow the breadcrumbs, she reconnects with her old friend Maria and Maria's daughter Monica, who are understandably shocked to discover their dead friend is actually a space superhero. Meanwhile, Talos finally reveals that the Skrulls aren't conquering villains at all—they're refugees looking for a home. Turns out the Kree may not have been entirely honest. The biggest bombshell comes when Carol remembers what really happened. Dr. Lawson was actually Mar-Vell, a Kree scientist secretly helping the Skrulls. Shes killed while taking control of an experimental energy source. Carol destroyed the engine to keep it from the Kree, absorbed its energy in the explosion, gained incredible powers, and then had her memories erased so the Kree could turn her into a weapon. The gang tracks down Mar-Vell's hidden space laboratory, where a bunch of Skrull refugees have been hiding. Unfortunately, Starforce shows up, the Kree try to reassert control, and Carol gets dragged before the Supreme Intelligence. She destroys the device limiting her powers and finally goes full Captain Marvel. What follows is a one-sided beatdown thanks to Captain marvel. With the Skrulls safe for the moment, Carol decides to head off into space to help them find a permanent home. Before leaving, she gives Fury a special pager for emergencies. Fury later loses his eye in an incident involving Goose - a cat who is actually an alien who is also holding the Tesseract in its tummy. Looking at Carol's old Air Force call sign, he lands on the perfect name: The Avengers Initiative. In the mid-credits scene, the pager goes off and Carol returns to Earth Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show? Dear Friends, What if your dog is not just your companion… but a spiritual guide? In this episode of Gateways to Awakening, I sit down with author and spiritual teacher JJ Flowers to explore the deeper, often unseen relationship between humans and dogs. Based on her book The Spiritual Dog: Emissary of Unconditional Love and Healing, JJ shares a powerful perspective: that dogs are not companions, but intentional beings who enter our lives to support, heal, and evolve with us.Together, they explore the idea that dogs are carriers of unconditional love, operating from a level of awareness that most humans have forgotten how to access. From telepathic communication to emotional mirroring, JJ explains how dogs constantly read our energy, reflect our inner world, and in many cases, transmute what we cannot process ourselves. The conversation moves through grief, healing, and the unseen realms, as JJ shares her personal journey of loss and the spiritual awakening that followed, opening her perception to a deeper connection with both the animal kingdom and the energetic world beyond the physical. A hardy welcome to summer birding and the return, after a break for migration, of The Big Year Podcast. Seems silly of me to tell you the title of the show, since you must have known it when you clicked on the podcast to begin with. Today, we have two guests. Our first guest is Tobin Brown, who did a Nebraska Big Year, and broke the previous record for birds seen in the state for a single year. And our second guest, Brooke Showan will tell her story of having found, through serendipity, or just really good bird spotting skills, the Whooping Crane many of us drove to northern Ontario to see, just as I was finishing up the previous episode with Roberta Bondar, where we discussed her involvement with the Conservation efforts of the Whooping Cranes in North America. As reported in my May 1 episode, I drove north to Bruce Mines to see the wayward bird, but did not have the chance to talk to the birder who initially found it, reported it to the International Crane Foundation, and became a bit of a local celebrity for her amazing discovery, less than an hour's drive south of Dr. Bondar's home in Sault Ste. Marie. I was able to catch up with Brooke, early in May, and I think you'll enjoy the story of her own Whooping Crane adventure. I had a good migration season, beginning with a little cheeky movie parody of 50 Shades of Gray, called 31 Shades of Yellow, and shared some of my favourite yellowish warblers and vireos each day of May on Instagram. But it was May 2 when we had the first highlight of migration, when a White-faced Ibis showed up in my local patch, right here in Brant County. It was species number 245 for my county list and a bird I never expected to show up locally. It was the second Brant County Lifer of the year, the first being a Ross's Goose in March. On May 7, I was fortunate enough to see a Bell's Vireo, another very rare bird for Ontario, not far from home at Lakeside Park in Kitchener. A couple of days later a Western Cattle Egret showed up in Norfolk County, not far from the Long Point Bird Observatory, another fine place for birding during migration season. That same day the first of many Summer Tanagers reported in May, landed on Woodstock Avenue just around the corner from Long Point. At Point Pelee one of the most coveted warblers of spring migration, a Worm Eating Warbler, made an appearance on the Sanctuary Trail at the north end of the park. Worm Eating Warblers are never guaranteed during any given migration season in Ontario, and in fact I missed seeing one during my own 2022 Big Year. Worm Eating Warblers nest south of the Great Lakes and any seen in Ontario are what birders call “overshoots,” likely due to weather or just plain old navigation errors. What one might call the most unexpected bird of the season, was a Willow Ptarmigan that showed up at Rock Point Provincial Park. Too bad it, it being seen at Rock Point, that it wasn't a Rock Ptarmigan, as I've never seen one of those. But for many of the people at Rock Point that day, it was either a Lifer or at least an Ontario Lifer. For my friend, Andrew Keaveny, who has been on a previous episode, it was an Ontario Lifer. He had been birding nearly all his life, had seen well over 400 species in Ontario, but was as excited for this bird as he was for the Whooping Crane. And by the way, if you haven't listened to Andrew's episode, please load it up after this and have a listen. Oh, and it would help a lot if you'd like, subscribe, leave glowing reviews and share this with your friends and family. So, now that we're all up to date, please have a listen to the stories of Tobin Brown and Brooke Showan. Here's a bonus section for you to enjoy. I enjoy listening to the music from the movie, The Big Year. The soundtrack album is nice, but does not include all the songs that we heard in the movie. I was able to put together a playlist, including all the orchestral pieces from the movie, by Theodore Shapiro and all the songs that I could download from Apple Music. I even tried to put them in order of when they appeared in the movie, more or less. Track 1: The Code Writer Track 2: Minor Swing performed by Django Reinhardt Track 3: Carpe Annum Track 4: Day One Track 5: The Devil Never sleeps performed by Iron & Wine Track 6: Bostick Sneaks a Peek/Bird Bait Track 7: Fallout Track 8: Let it Shine performed by Jeremy Fisher Track 9: Pitkin County Turnaround performed by Steve Martin himself on banjo Track 10: The Shrike Track 11: Welcome to Attu Track 12: Rustic Bunting/Western Tanager Track 13: Viva la Vida performed by Cold Play Track 14: Attu/The Great Spotted Woodpecker Track 15: Come Fly Away performed by Jeremy Fisher Track 16: I like Birds by performed by the Eels Track 17: Snowcocks Track 18: Golden Plover/Ruby Alive/Freak Blizzard Track 19: Ultrasound Track 20: Great Gray Owl Track 21: Final Stretch Track 22: Face the Abyss Track 23: A Very Big Year Track 24: Coda Track 25: This Could All Be Yours performed by Guster Track 26: Ornithological Pursuits (Played over the final credits). There are some incidental tracks throughout the movies that play mostly in the background, but are not a major part of the story, like Bing Crosby's Silent Night or Auld Lang Syne performed by Guy Lombardo, plus some more obscure tracks that only an audiophile would be able to dig up. You may also want to include Surfin' Bird performed by The Trashmen.
Dr. Jim Dubovsky, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service central flyway representative, rejoins the DU Podcast to provide nostalgic reflection as he share insights on the role of sex-specific duck regulations, how they were formulated under the point system, and what determined if a bird was worth 10, 15, or 35 points. Despite being conceptually sound, the point system was withdrawn in 1994, largely due to challenges with the practicality of its implementation and enforcement.Listen now: www.ducks.org/DUPodcastSend feedback: DUPodcast@ducks.orgSPONSORS:Purina Pro Plan: The official performance dog food of Ducks UnlimitedWhether you're a seasoned hunter or just getting started, this episode is packed with valuable insights into the world of waterfowl hunting and conservation.Bird Dog Whiskey and Cocktails:Whether you're winding down with your best friend, or celebrating with your favorite crew, Bird Dog brings award-winning flavor to every moment. With spring planting season winding down, attention turns to the work that pays dividends for ducks long after the combines are parked. Cason and Brent discuss Louisiana's newly announced black-bellied whistling duck season and debate whether duck hunters and waterfowl managers have fallen behind deer hunters when it comes to working together across property lines. The conversation also covers the latest reports from the Prairie Pothole Region, drought conditions across the South, and why stewardship matters, whether you own ground or not. The episode wraps up with a look at a potential floodplain reforestation project and several programs that can help landowners turn marginal farmland into productive wildlife habitat.Send us Fan MailAll Rights Reserved.
