My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Linda Margolin Royal, author of the book The Star on the Grave. Linda Margolin Royal was born in Sydney, forever thankful her father and grandparents received life-saving transit visas from Chiune Sugihara in 1940, which enabled them to enter Japan and escape the Holocaust. This ultimately meant they could find a permanent, safe home in Australia in 1941. The remainder of her family, numbering in the hundreds, was murdered in concentration camps. She trained as a graphic designer and then copywriter, and spent thirty years in the advertising industry both in Australia and the US, writing advertisement scripts for TV and radio, and general press advertising for multinational newspapers and billboards. Linda's creative bent extends to abstract painting and drawing from live models. The Star on the Grave is her first novel. In my book review, I stated The Star on the Grave by Linda Margolin Royal is a Holocaust historical fiction. I love historical fiction, especially those based on true family history and those that give me an insight into an aspect of history I didn't know. The novel is a dual timeline showing Rachel's life in 1968 and her grandmother and father's life in 1940 - relatives of the author. We learn of a Polish Jewish family escaping the Nazis through Lithuania and a brave Japanese diplomat, unknown to me, named Chiune Sugihara who issued thousands of visas to save them. This novel hit both of my loves! I also love great characters, and this novel doesn't disappoint. I immediately came to love Rachel and felt her despair, anger, grief, and eventual understanding as her world shattered around her. Her grandmother is a character who is deserving of her own book! Linda did such a great job describing her that I could both see and hear her in my head as I read. And even Rachel's father, though not a warm and fuzzy character, held me captive. This is a great read. A definite must-read. Grab your copy today!

Bill Gates has some big regrets when it comes to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Yesterday, Gates testified to the House Oversight Committee about his past ties to Epstein. In a closed-door hearing, Gates said Epstein attempted to leverage information about Gates's extramarital affairs “to pressure me to re-engage with him” after Gates had begun to cut ties. Gates said he regretted meeting with Epstein, but had never seen Epstein commit criminal conduct, and denied victimizing anyone. He acknowledged the meetings were a “grave error in judgment” that risked his reputation and his philanthropic work. Meanwhile, Epstein‘s longtime former personal assistant is reportedly giving Congress some names of people connected to Epstein. This comes as the House Oversight Committee Chair is reportedly working to bring acting AG Todd, Blanche in to testify. We welcome former federal prosecutor, and now defense attorney, David Katz to talk about the new revelations and whether there may be any legal fallout. We are excited to talk politics with Russ Baker. He is the founder of news organization whowhatwhy.org Then, we'll find out what's new to sip and wear at Coachellavalleycoffee.com as Roastmaster General Cliff Young stops by the show.

On August 12, 1984, 13-year-old Eugene Wade Martin vanished while delivering newspapers in Des Moines, Iowa. Just two years earlier, another paperboy, Johnny Gosch, disappeared under eerily similar circumstances only miles away. Despite extensive investigations, countless theories, and decades of speculation, neither boy has ever been found. In Part One of The Paper Boy Abductions, I walk you through the mysterious disappearance of Eugene Martin, the haunting parallels to Johnny Gosch's case, and the questions that continue to surround two of Iowa's most infamous unsolved child disappearances.Anyone with information about Eugene Martin is asked to call Det. Former archaeology student and lifetime history buff Connie Berry writes a range of contemporary historic mysteries (Contemporary-historic, how's that for an oxymoron?) set in various time periods, and sometimes she even blends the eras together. In our interview she digs into the backstory of her protagonist in the Kate Hamilton Mystery Series. Kate Hamilton's my favorite type of amateur sleuth and I'm addicted to these mysteries. Kate's smart, capable, doesn't meddle too much, and respects the boundaries between civilians and police. Her sidekick, Ivor, is one of the most charming and bizarre sidekicks I've come across in a while, too. Connie shares how she plausibly plots twisty, complicated books and schools me on the real life medieval plague victim behind her latest work. BONUS: Connie reveals the inspiration of her new project, a historical figure so strange and eerie, I'm including a link so you can learn more about Sarah Hare. Why do we sometimes attach oaths to our words? Why might we be tempted to add an oath, for example, "I swear on the grave of my mother?" Why would something I say, merit the calling upon the support of the burial plot of someone dear to me? This is such a strange thing: that adding an OATH somehow increases the likelihood of a statement being TRUE. The fact that there are oaths at all tells us one thing: that often, our words aren't true. Join me for 6 minutes to see what Jesus has to say about it. https://youtu.be/VR3iVyroWw0

"The New York Times released their 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters list a short while ago. I know online lists usually have some click bait to start conversation but this list was overtly egregious. Not for who was on it. It was who was left off. We will go over the list and play some artists that should have been on there."
"It is no secret that music contracts can be rather brutal on artists. Often the stories focus on not getting paid but there is also the interesting idea of a lawsuit ordering a musician to fill his or her contract and record what we are calling a court ordered album. We have multiple examples plus one where the band was paid NOT to record an album."
"Sony Music Publishing confirmed an agreement to acquire Blackstone's Recognition Music Group catalog for $3.5 billion. The Red Hot Chili Peppers just sold their catalog for $300 million. Other Funds are raising billions to start buying. These buyers are called Music Rights Funds. I became interested in how these Funds actually made money. How does one invest and can I sell my own music. I have the answers for you."
Thirty-seven years ago today, the Chinese Communist Party violently crushed freedom demonstrations in Beijing's Tiananmen Square and other cities across China. Grave insult was added to the murderous injury inflicted when the U.S. government made clear that such repression would not be allowed to interfere with business as usual between the two countries. The message was personally conveyed to that epic crime's perpetrators by President George H.W. Bush's National Security Advisor, Brent Scowcroft – a longtime protégé of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who blazed the path for “engagement” with the CCP. In practice, as author Peter Schweizer has devastatingly documented in his latest best-seller, Invisible Coup, Kissinger, Scowcroft, and former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson spawned the practice of profiting immensely by selling out our country to China at the expense of Americans' economic wellbeing and national security. That must end.

We follow that thread from the Tigris-Euphrates River Valley, where Genesis places the world's earliest rebellion, through the Tower of Babel and God's judgment that shattered one language into many. Along the way, we talk about why the “cradle of civilization” can also become a graveyard when pride hardens into defiance. We also zoom in on the real city of Babylon in modern-day Iraq. From Nebuchadnezzar's engineered wonder and the Ishtar Gate to Daniel's prophecies and Babylon's historic collapse, the pattern is clear: empires love the idea of Babylon. Then the story jumps forward to leaders who tried to reboot it Alexander the Great, Napoleon, and Saddam Hussein, whose New Babylon dreams were entangled with money, oil, and a hunger for global influence. From there we land in Revelation 18 and the fall of Babylon the Great. We wrestle with the question of literal versus symbolic, walk through the warning to God's people to separate from her sins, and face the haunting picture of global commerce grieving a city's destruction in a single hour. If you care about biblical prophecy, end times, Armageddon, and the pull of a one-world government and one-world religion, you'll find a lot to think about here. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
The South Carolina Supreme Court erased Alex Murdaugh's murder conviction, and Blanca Simpson didn't pick up her phone. She drove to Maggie's grave and sat in silence. For twenty years, Blanca wasn't just cleaning the Murdaugh house — she was holding its secrets. She was the person Maggie trusted enough to pull into a room and shut the door. The person who heard Maggie say she'd give everything she had to make the thirty-million-dollar lawsuit disappear. The person who knew, just by looking at a pair of folded pajamas, that something was deeply wrong the morning after the murders.Blanca testified for three hours in 2023. She told the jury what she saw. What she noticed. What Alex tried to get her to un-see months later when he brought up a shirt she knew he wasn't wearing. That testimony helped put him away for life. And now it exists in legal limbo — not because it was wrong, but because a court clerk named Becky Hill decided to put her thumb on the scale while writing a book about the trial. In this exclusive sit-down, Blanca opens up about what it felt like to hear the ruling. What she said to Maggie at the grave. How she holds two competing truths — that Alex is guilty and that the process was broken. And whether she's ready to do it all again in a courtroom.Part 1 of a three-part Hidden Killers exclusive with the woman who knew the Murdaugh family from the inside.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? What's up with "I Buried My Wife and Danced on Her Grave?" It's an old tune with an interesting title, with connections to blind pipers, Clare fiddlers, pookahs, and… wool pants. To close out Season 10 of Irish Music Stories, host Shannon Heaton unravels strands of melody and history, with help from the guitar player two rooms away. _________________ For playlists, transcripts, links to videos, companion essays, and to contribute to this project, please head to https://shannonheatonmusic.com/ims
On a remote ridge in Washington sits a nine-foot pit that has no measurable bottom, swallows everything thrown into it without ever filling, plays decades-old music through any radio brought near it, and—according to those who've used it to dispose of their dead—occasionally gives the dead back, alive and walking out of the forest still wearing the collars they were buried in.
