Both Doctor’s of Physical Therapy, they are two travel therapists who created a valuable tool for all those in the travel field. We discuss how they first learned about travel therapy, where they are currently working, and how the idea of Rate Travel Assignments was started. Linda Johnson-Krouse is a friend and co-worker who I met while on a travel assignment on Cape Cod. She is a Physical Therapist Assistant who practiced for over 40 years and has experienced first hand how the profession has evolved. Tyretel is a friend and classmate who was in our graduating class from PT school. In this episode we discuss her journey from graduating, to working pretty much full time with per diem work. She basically lives the traveler lifestyle without having to travel. Between work as a per diem therapist and the different settings she has found herself working in, has allowed her to explore many different outdoor activities, including international travel for fun. We discuss her unique setting as a therapist working in a chronic pain clinic as well as her hobbies outside of work. Redefining what it means to work full time as a therapist, Tyretel has found time for adventure, travel, and enjoyment outside of your typical 40 hour work week.
Erin is a physical therapist who is an orthopedic clinical specialist as well as a current clinic director at an outpatient facility in Southern California. In this episode we discuss OCS residency, pursuing PT school after having children, her experience as a clinic director and how her bachelors in business helped prepare her for that role. Erin is also an avid marathon runner who finds time for daily workouts, managing family life, and a full time career as a physical therapist. She is the definition of an active lifestyle.
Vanessa is a physical therapist and best friend of ours who we met at Loma Linda University. She is a San Diego native who began her career in long term care and has now found herself living in a new state, purchased a house, and transitioned from staff PT to Rehab Director. In this episode we discuss her journey through a brief trial as a travel therapist, which provides plenty of examples of what can go wrong during an assignment. Followed by gaining experience as a home health therapist and ultimately how it helped prepare her for a new role in a manager position.
Sue Grant is an occupational therapist who has worked in a variety of settings throughout her career. In this episode we discuss her early career, transitioning into working in a hippotherapy setting and entertaining stories along the way including teaching a horse how to swim. All of her jobs have been unique, including her initiation into travel therapy later in her career and now making the move from Maine to Texas to be closer to family. In this episode Julie returns for part two of our lunch conversations. Julie is an occupational therapist and a current rehab director at a nursing facility in Maine. She was my (Tyler's) supervisor during our most recent travel assignment. With experience in multiple settings including pediatrics, home health, and skilled nursing she has seen a wide variety of patients. In this episode we begin by flipping the script and she interviews Tyler regarding what he packs as a traveling therapist. We dive into what it is like adjusting to various clinic settings as travelers and end on our highlights of working in a skilled nursing facility.
Julie is an occupational therapist and a current rehab director at a nursing facility in Maine. She was my (Tyler's) supervisor during our most recent travel assignment. With experience in multiple settings including pediatrics, home health, and skilled nursing she has seen a wide variety of patients. #2 Whitney is a SLP who has been practicing since 2014 and has been a traveling therapist since June 2018.Not only does she successfully travel as a SLP, but she does so by living full time in her RV with her husband and dog. We dive into what it is like as a traveling therapist living in an RV and discuss the struggles turned success on her journey through assignments. This episode is not only for those considering traveling and living in an RV, but for anyone who wants to know if it's possible traveling with a spouse who is not a health care worker. Whitney and her husband show that it is possible to travel and manage finding work for both of them.
