    Gary Shipe speaks with Director of Marketing and Communications Jim McFarland, as he highlights the 100 year history of St. Vincent DePaul in Seattle, as well as its origins in 19th century France. Jim walks through time talking about key milestones in St. Vincent DePaul history. It leads us up to current day and that St. Vincent DePaul is still compelled to action by the convictions of the founders. St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County joins the community to listen, engage, and build relationships that assist and advocate for individuals and families to meet basic needs and achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Whether it's during its post World War One founding, through the depression and World War Two, or into the changes of the 1960s and 1970s, St. Vincent DePaul of Seattle/King County has found the needs of the community and engaged in a direct way. Now in the 21st century, those ideals are still ever present, with programs designed to prevent eviction that leads to the homelessness problems in the area.     Gary Shipe speaks with Associate Director Mirya Muñoz Roach, as she highlights one of the programs of St Vincent DePaul that builds and engages relationships in the Latino community; that of Centro Rendu. Centro Rendu, founded in 2013, exists to protect, support, and defend Latino immigrant families through education, social services, legal advocacy, and leadership development that empowers and strengthens healthier communities and future generations. Key components of Centro Rendu for the Latino community in South King County include: Child and parent early learning opportunities. Free adult basic education classes in Spanish, classes for English language learners, high school completion programs (GED & 21+), computer and financial literacy classes. Culturally specific case management services to meet family’s basic needs and achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Youth and case management programs that work on gang, violence & drug prevention and intervention services with school districts and partnering agencies. Legal immigration services to complete immigration applications by a board of immigration appeals (BIA) accredited representative and free immigration consultations.
