In this episode, I'm joined by James Kimmel Jr. JD, a lecturer in psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and author of The Science of Revenge, to explore what the latest neuroscience tells us about revenge, grievance, and retaliation. We discuss how the brain's reward system becomes activated in response to perceived harm—often fueling cycles of conflict that begin in childhood. Together, we examine how understanding these mechanisms can help us teach our children to reframe grievances, regulate emotional responses, and move toward forgiveness, both in everyday sibling conflicts and larger social dynamics.I WROTE MY FIRST BOOK! Send us a textIn this episode of Neo News, journalist and New York Times critic-at-large Amanda Hess joins host Dr. Eli Adashi to revisit the story behind her viral essay, “My Son Has a Rare Syndrome, So I Turned to the Internet.” Amanda shares the disorienting experience of receiving her son's diagnosis of Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome during a routine third-trimester ultrasound and the digital spiral that followed. As a new parent navigating the NICU and early medical complexities, she reflects on the paradox of modern care: how high-tech diagnostics coexist with emotional disconnection—and how often the only available companion is the search bar. The conversation explores the reality of caregiving with limited context, the emotional fallout of confronting diagnosis alone, and the unpredictable role of the internet and social media in shaping parental perception.Drawing from her upcoming book Second Life: Having a Child in the Digital Age, Amanda brings a clear-eyed perspective on the information gaps, algorithmic noise, and the human need for clarity when the stakes are impossibly high.Listen in for a raw and thoughtful look at what happens between the scan, the screen, and the real child in your arms. What if everything we think we know about raising children is not just wrong, but actively harmful? Aaron Stupple and Logan Chipkin, authors of "The Sovereign Child," join Infinite Loops to make a case so compelling and radical that it challenges the very foundation of modern parenting and education. From birth, we're told that children need rules, structure, and authority to thrive. But what if this approach is crushing their natural creativity, problem-solving abilities, and authentic self-development? Stupple and Chipkin argue that children are people—full stop. They have reasons, preferences, and the capacity to make decisions about their own lives, yet we systematically ignore this reality in favor of compliance and control. We dive deep into their concept of the "foul four"—the four devastating ways that imposing non-consensual rules damages children's relationships with themselves, their parents, problem-solving itself, and their understanding of how to navigate the world. From the arbitrary nature of bedtimes to the deeper psychological damage of forcing gratitude and politeness, this conversation will make you question every "because I said so" moment in your childhood and parenting. Whether you're a parent, educator, or simply someone interested in human flourishing, this episode offers a radically different lens through which to view childhood, autonomy, and what it means to raise great adults. In this episode, Dr. Mark talks with Cynthia, who's lived with type 1 diabetes since she was 19. Cynthia reflects on how a lack of mental health support at diagnosis contributed to years of struggling with bulimia—something she now speaks openly about to help others. The second half of the conversation focuses on parenting with diabetes. Cynthia's daughter is almost eight, and the decision about whether or not to screen her for T1D antibodies is weighing heavily on her. She walks through the emotional complexity, the uncertainty of the results, and how the conversation around screening often overlooks mental health entirely. This episode is a must-listen for parents with T1D—or anyone considering antibody screening for their child. Grab your FREE copy of the Diabetes Sucks and You Can Handle It audiobook HERE.

In this episode, I answer a question from a mom navigating intense bedtime struggles with her highly anxious daughter. When emotions escalate and her child feels panicked or overwhelmed, she questions whether enforcing boundaries might seem insensitive. I break down what's really going on—how anxiety drives a need for control—and why bedtime often becomes the battleground. Using child-centered strategies, I walk through how to respond in ways that honor both the child's emotions and the parent's need for structure, sleep, and sanity. I explain how to set compassionate boundaries, return responsibility, and use empowering choices to build your child's resilience and coping skills—without fueling the cycle of dependence.
