    On January 19, 1996, the North Cape oil barge ran aground at Moonstone Beach, spilling 820,000 gallons of oil into Rhode Island Sound. The resulting environmental damage was overwhelming. Save The Bay Advocacy Director Topher Hamblett joins the show to discuss the organization’s response to the 1996 North Cape oil spill, both on the shoreline and in the state house. Topher also discusses the push for a new climate resilience fund generated by an oil fee.

    Hundred Acre Cove is a one-square-mile estuarine cove bordered by Rhode Island and Massachusetts on either side. Save The Bay must now negotiate across state lines to alleviate bacterial pollution that has closed the cove to shellfishing since the 1990s. Waterkeepers Mike Jarbeau and Kate McPherson join the show to discuss Save The Bay’s ongoing project to create a restoration plan. A successful project would benefit three watershed communities and set an example for similar collaboration projects in the future. This project is supported by the Southeast New England Program (SNEP) Watershed Grants.
