Known affectionately as Scotty, he takes us on a journey through his fascinating career in hockey specifically, which began unexpectedly when he stepped in as a replacement speaker at Roger Neilson's Coaches Clinic. We get a glimpse into Scotty's world and how he found his passion for helping athletes and professionals develop the mental skills necessary for success. Our conversation kicks off with a lively discussion about the vital role of mental skills in both sports and business. Scotty shares valuable insights on the power of mental strength, emphasizing that it's character, not just talent, that truly sets individuals apart. We delve into the importance of humility, resiliency, and mental toughness, as well as the fleeting nature of motivation. Scotty reminds us that true progress lies in focusing on the process rather than being solely driven by external motivation. Prepare for a surprise twist! Scotty playfully drops a bombshell announcement, showcasing his playful and humorous side. This leads us to a thought-provoking exploration of how our mindset can either view challenges as burdens to endure or as exciting opportunities to embrace. We uncover the impact of our perspective on how we approach and overcome obstacles, highlighting the significance of a growth-oriented mindset. Our guest, Scotty, takes us deeper into the psychology of success by shedding light on why rookies often outperform expectations. This sparks an engaging conversation about the dangers of rigid expectations and how they can hold us back. We shift our focus to the importance of having an internal locus of control and taking personal responsibility for our outcomes. Throughout the discussion, humility emerges as a common thread, reminding us of its vital role in leadership and personal growth. Before we wrap up, Scotty jokingly addresses the challenge of being taken seriously, adding a light-hearted touch to the conversation. Our hosts, Dave and Emily, share their key takeaways, reflecting on the valuable insights gained from their time with Scotty. As we conclude this episode, we're left with a renewed understanding of the critical mental skills needed to excel in both sports and business. Learn more about your ad choices. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - recapped a very busy Tuesday afternoon/evening on Montlake, one overshadowed by the news that running back Tybo Rogers was arrested last Friday on two rape charges and is currently out on bail. After offering thoughts on Rogers and the situation he finds himself in, the talk then gets back to Tuesday's practice and the fact that the defense is well ahead of the offense so far. Not to worry, said UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch after practice. Every program he's been a part of saw the defense jump well ahead of the offense during spring ball. But what is causing the gulf in play between the two sides? The guys hash that out, and there are some definite reasons why. And before going any further, Chris wanted to make sure not to bury the lede; the appearance of Bill Belichick at practice. And the former New England Head Coach wasn't just watching, he was actively helping out with all the defensive position groups. Belichick has been at UW since Friday, first to give a couple of talks during Washington's Coaches Clinic, and now he's helping out on the field. The guys talk about what they saw Belichick do, who he was helping, seeing Belichick and his son - Washington Defensive Coordinator Steve Belichick - coaching at the same time, and more. And to wrap things up, Scott gives a brief recruiting update on a top prospect that happened to be at practice today. The final week of spring football gave us our closest look yet at the 2022 Buckeyes.Ohio State took the field on Saturday for its annual spring game in Ohio Stadium, and while there wasn't necessarily any overarching storyline that came out of this year's scrimmage, there were no shortage of individual players who stood out.We begin this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays by talking about some of the biggest standouts from this year's spring game, including players who have received plenty of post-spring game publicity like Kye Stokes and Jordan Hancock but also some players who deserve more attention for their spring game performances like Andre Turrentine, Noah Potter and Xavier Johnson. We also consider how much playing time Evan Pryor could see at running back this year, what we make of Gee Scott Jr. and the tight ends' performance in the spring game, why the offensive line remains Ryan Day's biggest concern, what we took away from Kyle McCord and Devin Brown's showings and what made Ohio State's halftime tribute to Dwayne Haskins so powerful. Before Saturday's spring game, both of us also had the opportunity to attend the Ohio State football coaches' clinic on Thursday and Friday, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what Ohio State's coaches are teaching their players. Dan shares (starting around the 30:30 mark and continuing around the 40-minute mark) what he learned about the new defensive scheme from watching Jim Knowles speak and Griffin explains why Larry Johnson's presentation gave him a new lease on life.In the final 20 minutes of the show, we discuss a handful of other news items from the past week including Jacolbe Cowan entering the transfer portal, why Ohio State is recruiting former USC kicker Parker Lewis, what Sevyn Banks could do at LSU, the commitments of Bryson Rodgers and Dijon Johnson and how Meechie Johnson's departure makes it even more important for the Buckeyes to land a couple more high-quality players from the transfer portal.
Greg tells us the story of going to Nick Saban's Coaches Clinic.

As many of our listeners are aware, the Roger Neilson’s Coaches Clinic has been officially cancelled for this year, because of the COVID19 pandemic. So, we adapted quickly and created the “Roger Neilson's Coaches Connection”. This is a private online Facebook community designed to continue to provide our coaches out there a place to connect, learn, and inspire each other during this very challenging time for people across the globe. If you would like to join us in our private Facebook group, just search “Roger Neilson's Coaches Connection”, and simply ask to join the group. We’ve had some incredible presentations and guest speakers that we know any coach would not want to miss out on. One of our latest initiatives is a Friday afternoon program called, ‘Coffee with Coaches’. We bring in special guest coaches and players to share their wisdom with our coaching community, and we give our coaches a chance to ask our special guests questions they may have about the game. This was our first instalment of ‘Coffee with Coaches’ and we were lucky enough to have the Foligno family join us! This was a special father/sons edition of our show. Mike(who played over 1000 games in the NHL, while also coaching in the NHL/AHL/juniors for many years), Nick(who’s currently the captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets) and Marcus(who is playing for the Minnesota Wild) shared some awesome insight with us about their own relationship as a family, their thoughts on the current state of the game, and some special lessons on personal leadership they have learned over the years. Have a listen to this episode and let us know what you think. I know for me personally, this was an interview to remember! If you have any thoughts on our ‘Coffee with Coaches’ episode, let us know your thoughts in the comments. And as always, please remember to hit the subscribe button, if you’d love to stay up to date with our new episodes!
