Check out the full episode: https://greatness.lnk.to/1923DM Kevin Love said it straight: he's never getting those steps back. After 18 seasons, USA Basketball, and more miles than most careers allow, the math isn't in his favor physically. But that's not the whole story. What he's figured out is cortisol management, knowing exactly where he still adds elite value, and using veteran communication as a weapon younger players don't have yet. Lewis is chasing the same thing from a different angle — training for LA 2028 at 45, trying to extend an Olympic handball dream by staying mentally and physically young. Two athletes, different sports, same fight against the clock. The answer isn't pretending the decline isn't real. It's knowing what you still bring. Basketball has a way of shaping people long before they ever step onto a sideline. For Darius Taylor, that journey started in Chicago — during the era when one name dominated the city: Michael Jordan.Watching Jordan redefine greatness didn't just inspire a kid to pick up a basketball. It created a mindset. A culture. An expectation. In Chicago, winning wasn't optional. It was identity.Taylor began playing the game around age nine, growing up in one of the toughest and most competitive basketball environments in America. Chicago has produced legends like Juwan Howard, Antoine Walker, Michael Finley, and Shawn Marion — and the intensity of that basketball culture helped shape Taylor early. But what separated him from many young athletes was self-awareness.He realized early that playing professionally might not be his ultimate path. Instead of forcing a dream that didn't fit, he pivoted toward the side of the game where he could make the biggest impact.Coaching.That decision would eventually place him in rooms most people never experience. His basketball education accelerated through USA Basketball, where Taylor traveled internationally working with elite players and coaches. It was during that time he connected with one of the most influential figures in women's basketball — Dawn Staley. That relationship led to Taylor's first major coaching opportunity at Temple University, where he worked under Staley and helped develop future stars.Along the way he had the opportunity to work with some of the best players in the game — including Candice Dupree, A'ja Wilson, and Alaina Coates. But beyond X's and O's, Taylor absorbed something even more important from Staley.Discipline.As he explains it:“The thing that separates success from everything else is discipline — doing the same boring things over and over until you master them.”That philosophy became central to how he approaches both basketball and leadership.Taylor's career eventually took him into one of the most powerful roles in professional basketball — the WNBA front office.Working with organizations like the Atlanta Dream and the Connecticut Sun, Taylor helped evaluate talent, study roster construction, and even play a role in the drafting and development of future stars.Front office work changes how you see the game. You're not just watching players. You're projecting futures.Studying growth curves.Evaluating potential. That experience reshaped how Taylor views basketball today — especially the small details that separate good players from championship players. One area he believes many young athletes overlook is defense. As Taylor explains:“Ninety percent of the game you don't have the ball. So how are you impacting winning when the ball isn't in your hands?”Defense. Passing. Rebounding. Screening. Those habits build careers. They also build championships.Today, Taylor is helping lead a new chapter for Texas A&M women's basketball alongside his wife, head coach Joni Taylor. The challenge has been significant. With the transfer portal reshaping college basketball, the Aggies brought in twelve new players in a single season. In modern roster management, turnover has become the norm. But Taylor believes culture can overcome chaos. The program emphasizes connection — team retreats, relationship building, and intentional leadership development. Because basketball success isn't just about strategy. It's about trust. It's about belief. For Taylor, recognition has never been the goal. He's always been comfortable working behind the scenes. But his impact on the game is undeniable. From USA Basketball…To the WNBA front office…To the SEC.Few people understand the women's game from as many angles as Darius Taylor. And when asked what's next, his answer remains simple.Help Texas A&M rise.Build a championship program. And maybe one day return to the WNBA front office.Because leaders like Darius Taylor don't just coach basketball. They shape the future of the game.

At just 16 years old, Nation Williams isn't chasing the future — she's becoming it.In this episode of Sports ifeTalk, we sit down with Nation Williams, one of the most dynamic young talents in the country, to unpack a basketball journey that started in kindergarten and has already reached the national stage.Basketball has always been part of Nation's DNA. Raised in a family where the game was a way of life, her love for basketball was sparked early by her mother — a former player who introduced her to the game long before she could reach the rim. What started as joy and curiosity quickly turned into discipline, consistency, and a deep understanding of the work required to be elite. As Nation shares, basketball isn't just something she does — it's part of who she is.Standing at 6'2”, Nation brings a rare blend of size, motor, and versatility. But what separates her isn't just physical tools — it's effort. She talks about how energy and hustle are non-negotiables, even on off days. Whether it's rebounding, running the floor, defending multiple positions, or expanding her offensive game, Nation is committed to becoming a complete player. She opens up about working on her perimeter skills, ball-handling, and shooting range — understanding that evolution is required at the next level.Family remains the backbone of her success. Her mother, who wore the iconic number 24, is also her primary trainer, holding her accountable while pushing her to grow. Her sister — a college basketball player — has been both teammate and role model, making their shared state championship run one of the most meaningful moments of Nation's life. Those family conversations aren't just about points and stats — they're about fit, adaptability, and learning how to impact the game in different systems.Nation's résumé already speaks volumes. She's a state champion. A Gatorade Player of the Year. And a gold medalist with USA Basketball, representing her country on the international stage. She reflects on what it meant to wear “USA” across her chest, compete against elite talent, and realize that her preparation belonged on the world stage.Looking ahead, Nation is clear about her vision. Short term, she's chasing another state title and continued growth. Long term, she's focused on finding the right college program — one that values development, relationships, and leadership as much as wins. For her, success isn't just about basketball — it's about becoming a better person, teammate, and leader.Off the court, Nation's personality shines just as bright. She loves school for the social connections, enjoys subjects like science and English, and brings a natural charisma wherever she goes. Her favorite emoji —

He also worked as a court coach at USA Basketball's Men's Junior National Team Minicamp in conjunction with the NCAA Final Four and as the camp lead instructions director for the Yao Foundation Camp in China. On this episode Mike & Marshall discuss the critical need to prioritize skill development over competition in youth basketball, advocating for a shift toward a more balanced ratio of practice to games. In our discussion, we delve into the systemic issues that have led to an environment where the emphasis on winning has overshadowed the essential learning process inherent in training. We explore the significance of fostering a culture wherein young athletes can engage in meaningful practice sessions that promote skill acquisition, rather than merely participating in games for the sake of competition. The conversation also highlights the insights from Marshall's extensive coaching career and his commitment to nurturing the next generation of players. This episode ultimately highlights the essential role that coaches play in shaping not only skilled basketball players but also well-rounded individuals, ready to face the challenges of life.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @hoopheadspod for the latest updates on episodes, guests, and events from the Hoop Heads Pod.Make sure you're subscribed to the Hoop Heads Pod on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and while you're there please leave us a 5 star rating and review. What do elite athletes, top CEOs, and unforgettable teams really have in common? On this week's Why Not Now? with Amy Jo Martin, 12-time New York Times bestselling author and award-winning keynote speaker Don Yaeger pulls back the curtain on how world-class performers think, lead, and compound small wins into big outcomes. That approach led to one of the most human stories you will ever hear about Michael Jordan and the fuel behind his relentless drive. Inside the episode: A simple annual exercise to upgrade your “inner circle” and protect your energy. How Coach K rebuilt USA Basketball's purpose before a gold-medal run, and how to create “feel it” moments that bond any team. The Savannah Bananas blueprint for reinventing a stale customer experience by solving the ten things fans hate most.
