Wedding Photography Podcast | How To Become A Successful, Full-Time Wedding Photographer | Wedding Photography Tips

Over the past few weeks, we’ve covered quite a lot of content about "How To Photograph A Wedding", including the getting ready moments, portrait sessions and shooting both the ceremony and reception. In this episode, we are going to backtrack just a little bit and travel back into the basics, where I will share with you the one most important thing that you can take away from this podcast series to guarantee your success. First of all, a really important aspect of learning How to Photograph a Wedding is getting to know your gear inside out - not only understanding the fundamentals of photography but being comfortable shooting using your equipment in manual mode (and not trying to figure it out on the day of the wedding). If you find yourself overwhelmed with the pressure of shooting a wedding, it’s helpful to remember to just take a deep breath and go back to the basics of what you know, rather than trying to do anything out-of-the-ordinary. The most important aspect of running a wedding photography business applies to businesses and photographers of all levels, and that is the all necessary effort to learn from our mistakes. Whether we are talking about bad photos or losing a potential client, in order to truly grow your business and become successful, you must ask yourself what could you have done differently?  Even after 11 years in the business, I still make my share of mistakes, but it is the learning process and the persistence that has taught me the most and brought the most value in the end. Going forward, there’s always room to improve as a wedding photographer, so be constructively critical about your photography skills and determine which aspects you need to work on. That being said, change doesn’t happen overnight and it’s important to not constantly be comparing yourself to other, more experienced photographers. Aim to get better one wedding at a time, and you’ll see that patience and perseverance will pay off.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve covered quite a lot of content about How To Photograph A Wedding, including the getting ready moments, portrait sessions, and shooting both the ceremony and reception. So in the final episode of this five-part series, I wanted to share a few final tips and advice on what to do next. We’ll chat about the importance of knowing your gear inside out - not only understanding the fundamentals of photography but being comfortable shooting in manual mode (and not trying to figure it out on the day of the wedding). Continuing with my November theme “How To Photograph A Wedding”, in this podcast episode, we’re going to chat about bride and groom getting ready photos. I’ll share with you why this is my favorite part of the wedding day (albeit also the most challenging) and offer some of my top tips when it comes to capturing beautiful getting ready photos. The getting ready period is a time for you as a photographer to build rapport with not only the couple (if you haven’t worked with them during an e-session) but also their bridal party and family. If you do this successfully, then you’ll have their trust and cooperation throughout the rest of the day, which will make your job that much easier. They’ll be more relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera and more willing to be “in the moment” and follow your instructions. That being said, there are lots of challenges we have to work with when capturing getting ready photos. Sometimes the rooms are messy and cramped, with the area of natural light near the window occupied by the hair and makeup artists. Perhaps the guys don’t really want to have their portraits taken and are feeling extra uncomfortable. In my opinion, addressing these challenges is all about preparation and in this podcast, I’ll share with you some of the ways I go about it. I send my couples a PDF packed with wedding photography tips for them to keep in mind throughout the day, as well as a questionnaire so I know who their bridal party is and the names of their immediate family members. I also recommend using two camera bodies so you don’t have to keep changing your lens, with one body fitted with a variable focus lens and the other a telephoto like an 85mm or 100mm.

Wedding Photography Podcast | How To Become A Successful, Full-Time Wedding Photographer | Wedding Photography Tips

This October marks three years since I started my wedding photography podcast, with the main focus being on the business side of the industry, such as marketing tips, people skills, and the business mindset. But it’s with great excitement that I announce an expansion for Success In Wedding Photography in response to numerous questions I’ve had from the community about how I go about photographing a wedding. In addition to YouTube videos offering a behind the scenes look at how I photograph weddings, I’m also going to be releasing regular podcast episodes to share my insights on shooting venues, details, and portraits. I’ll share with you tips on how I photograph different parts of the day, including the directions I offer couples, as well as the lenses and lighting that I use. I’ll also be releasing an upcoming course, "How To Photograph A Wedding", which will be my flagship educational project to help other photographers with the shooting side of running a successful wedding photography business.

Welcome to Perspective || a podcast for wedding suppliers. In episode 04 titled Amazing Ceremonies, Simon and Gregg sit down with Claire Digance AKA Claire The Humanist to discuss how to create an amazing ceremony both from a celebrants point of view as well as the creative photography and videography teams shooting them. Claire is a humanist based in Scotland. For those out there who aren't familiar with humanism, we get Claire to talk us through the fundamental beliefs behind the movement as well as hear her backstory and how she reached the position she has within the industry. The main topic of conversation is of course how to approach the ceremony aspect of a wedding or elopement. Understanding each-others roles during this part of a wedding and how to communicate effectively in order to achieve greatness for all parties respectively! There are a few horror stories told and past difficulties shared but we have a good time talking about those hard times thanks to Claire's beautiful personality and Nelly The Dinosaur (NTD). This episode focuses on the humanist, photography and filmmaking genres, so if your roles fit into any of these descriptions then you'll find this a useful resource.
