Counselling helps people come to terms with difficulties (like anxiety or bereavement) but many can't afford it, so Petersfield Counselling Service have offered a service based on ability to pay since 1980. Referrals often come from GPs and Social prescribers and there is a one hour assessment to see if this would be helpful to you - and you can trial some sessions too. The 20 counsellors are volunteers and are not paid; some are trainees (under supervision) to reach the 100 hours work as part of their qualification. More than one hundred exhibitors put on a show of the future for students at Churcher's College. The event was an opportunity to explore careers, university life, volunteering and gap year options. Guest speakers included Dr Daniel Stewart who turned his education in chemistry into an innovative business venture. Petersfield Voluntary Care Group, is 50 years old in 2026. The voluntary group of 41 drivers arranges transport for over 500 people for, amongst other things, hospital appointments; over 1,700 journeys in this last year alone. Alison Gauld has volunteered with them since 2010, and has been a coordinator for the last 13 years. She’s standing down as a coordinator this year but will continue to be a driver.
