Aloha everyone!!! This week we take it back to one of the most notorious serial killers in US history.. The Milwaukee Cannibal.. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. Shawna starts us off on a deep dive of his childhood and life before the murders. Then Ash gives you a little taste of his gruesome killings. Stay tuned for parts two and three for more of the gory details! (Pun intended).
Daizi has read and reviewed Reliance (Powerless Earth Book 1) by Paul McMurrough for this episode, and she had plenty to say about it... "When i started this book, I thought the rather lengthy explanations about the solar storm and the resulting global loss of power was a bit long winded, but, and I don't say this often, I was wrong. When I think of a power cut, the first thing that comes to mind is, we'll need candles, we can't watch telly and, flipping eck, if it's off for long the fridge freezer will defrost. And that's about the extent of it, really. Apply that to a global scale and for more than the usual few minutes, or hours, and the ramifications can be terrifying, life threatening and the makings of a bloody good read. And while this is a work of fiction, it could conceivably happen, and that is a damn scary thought!..." April has read and reviewed Ever Rest by Roz Morris. The write up on Amazon reads as follows, but what did April think of it?... "Twenty years ago, Hugo and Ash were on top of the world. As the acclaimed rock band Ashbirds they were poised for superstardom. Then Ash went missing, lost in a mountaineering accident, and the lives of Hugo and everyone around him were changed forever. Irrepressible, infuriating, mesmerizing Ash left a hole they could never hope to fill. Two decades on, Ash's fiancée Elza is still struggling to move on, her private grief outshone by the glare of publicity... Ever Rest asks how we carry on after catastrophic loss." In episode 11 we learn a lot more about the hours before Bonzai went missing. We line up this information with a past interview with Lisa Bee, Bonzai's mother to make sure that the stories are lining up. The team over at Ashes to Ash had tried to get in touch with Teresa Butts for months. Teresa is an important part of this puzzle because her and her family may have been some of the last people to see Bonzai alive. Christopher, Teresa's son, was good friends with Bonzai and Bonzai spent the night at their house a few times a week. Teresa tells us about Bonzai's last morning, before he went missing. Then Ash gets a strange message from someone who she has never heard of before. When she reaches out, she is met with a static phone and broken sentences. She asks to meet this person. They agree. This week is a pre-recorded one as Matthew decided to spring a surprise trip to the states on poor Ash. But do you think that would stop these talk non stop for the 2nd of the double bangers? Course not! Join them this week as Ash talks about how he "pays It forward" but giving unrequested etiquette guidance to "innocent" scruff users. Then Ash talks about how awesome the Brit School is as a place of safety for LGBT pupils and the two reminisce on memories of growing up and the punishment received for being bad wee f*ckers - this and more in the latest Honest To Pod - and make sure you follow us on instagram & share this with your friends. WARNING - Ash realised near the end that his mic was not turned on BUT you can still hear that soulful husk when he speaks clear enough so fear not. He and Matt talk about how scary it is that people out there approach life in a way that justifies the denial of human rights to minorities. Especially in the era of Trump vs Transgender. Then Ash & Matt talk about why Blackface is NOT ok - but things get heated when they talk about other potential forms of cultural appropriation... we would love to hear your thoughts on this one...
