Lo sé seguro! Iconische woorden die gevolgd worden door de legendarische synths. DJ Liberty is vooral bekend van zijn grote hits Why en Seguro, maar dat succes kwam niet uit het niks. Als kind was Johan Goyvaerts al gebeten door muziek en die passie trok hij door in zijn professionele loopbaan. In verschillende rollen werkte hij bij toonaangevende labels als Byte Records, Bonzai en Sony BMG. Wanneer hij daarbuiten geen platen aan elkaar mixte of producties uitbracht, compileerde Liberty verschillende cd's. Zijn bekendste reeks compilaties is ongetwijfeld de Real Retro House, een concept waarmee hij nu nog evenementen organiseert. Hoewel DJ Fly deze track niet produceerde, gaf zijn label begin jaren 90 wel een thuis aan iconische producers. De ‘Godfather van Bonzai' stond zo aan de wieg van een indrukwekkende ravecultuur die nog altijd niet is uitgedaverd. Naast het management van het label, staat Fly ook al tientallen jaren achter de draaitafels. Meer recent doet hij dat als een helft van de Bonzai All Stars, die niet alleen retroklassiekers, maar ook nieuwe producties op het publiek loslaten. Dit doen ze in België en buurlanden of op een eigen Bonzai-event, zoals dat in de WaagnatieDuik mee in de wereld van Bonzai en ontdek waarom een klein Japans boompje de inspiratie was voor het grote Antwerpse label. It's Wednesday afternoon and that means a brand new episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap the last week in Edmonton Oilers land with a healthy dose of randomness mixed in to keep things light.To kick off this week's podcast, I got started with a podcast confession that I haven't been watching any hockey at all after the Oilers got knocked out in the second round. So what have I been doing to occupy my time, you might be wondering? The answer is a whole lot of nonsense. Somehow, I've found myself locked in these random TikTok holes that range from Bonzai pruning to pressure-washing driveways, but at the same time, I'm enjoying these silly videos way more than anything the NHL playoffs have to offer. Getting back to hockey, I kicked off the news by wishing Mattias Ekholm a very happy 33rd birthday and celebrated by playing a hilarious clip from the interview he recently gave to Christine Simpson over at Sportsnet. From there, I dove into Frank Seravalli's Top 50 UFA list over at Daily Faceoff and tried to figure out if any of the names listed would be realistic fits for the Oilers based on their current needs and cap space. With some potential shopping out of the way, I finished up the news with a look at the GM news that came out of Toronto and Calgary, including the funny spat between Brendan Shanahan and Kyle Dubas. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on what's been going on over the last week. Join Ash as she starts to pick apart each of the prevailing theories surrounding the murder of 13 year old Bonzai out of Pekin, Illinois. On this journey so far, we have heard a lot of theories, 2nd hand information, and 1st hand information. Now Ash wants to start dissecting all of this, to see what fits with the hard evidence. Those pieces of evidence that are well verified. The two theories that seem the strongest have been a suspect the police named early on in the investigation, Keith Brackett and the suspicion Kendra came forward with in episode 12. Ash now wants to see which of these theories fits with the hard evidence and to see if we can eliminate or confirm one of the alleged theories. Ash also plans next steps, to get additional law enforcement agencies to take a look at this cold case. She is planning a peaceful protest for November 21st from 1PM to 3PM. The goal of this protest is to hopefully get Pekin Police to ask the State Police to take over the investigation. Ash is asking for the communities help, the more people that show up, the better impact the team will have. The group will be wearing yellow in honor of Bonzai. In this episode Ash starts to put together a plan of attack in getting the attention of the Illinois State Police Department. Ash plans a protest that is almost cancelled because of COVID.
