What does it mean to be made in the image of God as an LGBTQ+ Christian? Rev. Dr. Hannah Ka is joined by Benicio Casillas, a transgender Christian and member of First United Methodist Church of San Diego, for a conversation about faith, identity, Ecclesiastes 3, and trusting God when life refuses to fit into neat categories. This is Episode 1 of our four-part Imago Dei 2.0 series celebrating the many ways the image of God is reflected in the diverse people of our church family. In this episode, Benicio shares his experience growing up Catholic, coming out as transgender, finding an LGBTQ-affirming church at First United Methodist Church of San Diego, and discovering what it means to embrace that he was created in God's image. Inspired by the Bible passage Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, the episode explores: Exploring faith through the lived experience of LGBTQ+ Christians What "made in the image of God" means for transgender and queer people Ecclesiastes 3 and learning to trust God amid uncertainty Why conformity is not the same as holiness How every person's authentic story reflects the image of God The spiritual and emotional impact of being told you don't belong The biblical theme of the image of God (Imago Dei) and what it means for all people This conversation is for you if you're: Looking for an affirming Christian perspective on LGBTQ+ faith Deconstructing or reconstructing your faith Curious about progressive Christianity Wrestling with questions about identity and belonging Interested in the Bible, theology, and inclusive churches Reflection Questions Where in your life have you been thinking in "either/or" categories? What might become possible if you imagined a wider spectrum of possibilities? Ecclesiastes names two extremes, like weeping and laughing, silence and speaking. Where do you find yourself somewhere in between those extremes today? Or perhaps a mixture of both? How has someone's story helped you see God, or the image of God, in a way you hadn't seen before? Continue the Conversation This episode accompanies our sermon series, Imago Dei 2.0, exploring the many ways God's image is reflected in the people of our church community. In this bonus episode of Talk Law Radio, host Todd Marquardt and co-host Shannon Salmon-Haas dive headfirst into three major, headline-grabbing Supreme Court rulings that are reshaping the legal and political landscape of the United States. From intense debates on biological sex and fairness in sports to historical dives into English common law, Todd and Shannon bring both legal expertise and spirited debate to the table. Whether you lean left, lean right, or just want to know how the law impacts your daily life, this episode breaks down complex constitutional arguments into a conversation you won't want to miss. Key Topics Discussed: Transgender Athletes & Title IX: A look at the landmark case West Virginia v. B.P.J.. Todd and Shannon clash over the Balance of Due Process, Title IX regulations, and safety concerns versus inclusivity in biological female sports. The Fate of Birthright Citizenship: Tracing the law from King James I in 1603 to the 14th Amendment and the Dred Scott decision, the hosts break down Trump v. Barbara. Discover why the Supreme Court upheld that if you are born here, you are a citizen—and the real-world logistical nightmare that changing it would create. Money, Speech, and Campaign Finance: An analysis of National Republican Senatorial Committee v. Federal Election Commission. The Supreme Court overturned a 2001 precedent to rule that political parties can now coordinate unlimited spending with candidates. Todd and Shannon square off on whether "money is speech" or if this decision puts American democracy up for sale to the highest bidder. Key Takeaways: The Constitution is a Living Debate: While Todd approaches the text from a strict originalist viewpoint, Shannon highlights how modern societal complexities challenge centuries-old frameworks. The Internet Changes the Legal Burden: A major reason the Supreme Court loosened campaign finance limits was the modern availability of online disclosure and transparency tools for voters. The Buck Stops at the Supreme Court: No matter how much tax money or legislative effort is poured into executive orders and state laws, the high court remains the final arbiter of what is constitutional. When Bobbie Simpson decided to run for her local school board in Gateway Unified School District, in the far northern county of Shasta, she knew it might be difficult to win as a transgender woman. More than half the voters in Shasta County are registered Republican. A conservative Christian church that promotes LGBTQ conversion therapy and “believes in the ever-increasing government of God,” according to its website, is very influential in local politics. But Bobbie ran anyway because she cares about schools. She pledged to bring the focus back to education and preserve the district's social emotional learning programs, which had benefited her own kids. And she won, with 57 percent of the vote, becoming the first transgender person known to be elected to a California school board. For the most part, she says she's found acceptance and respect on the board and in her community. The Supreme Court has issued one of its most significant rulings yet on transgender participation in school sports, and parents are left wondering how to explain it to their children. In this episode of Facing the Dark, Wayne and Dr. Kathy unpack the decision and move beyond the headlines to explore what it means for identity, compassion, and truth. The Court ruled unanimously that state laws restricting participation in girls' sports based on biological sex do not violate Title IX, and by a 6–3 majority held that these laws also do not violate the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. The case arose after transgender student-athletes—including Becky Pepper-Jackson in West Virginia and Lindsay Hecox in Idaho—challenged state laws requiring athletes to compete according to their biological sex. Writing for the majority, Justice Brett Kavanaugh argued that states may preserve women's sports for biological females and determine eligibility based on biological sex, while Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, in dissent, argued that excluding transgender women from women's sports still constitutes discrimination "on the basis of sex." Rather than focusing only on the legal questions, Wayne and Dr. Kathy explore the deeper issue every family faces: How do we help our children develop a secure identity in Christ so they can engage difficult cultural conversations with both conviction and compassion? They discuss why security forms identity, why identity shapes belonging, and how parents can teach their children to hold firmly to biblical truth while treating every person with dignity, kindness, and genuine love.

It's Wednesday, July 1st, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims killed 28 Christians Militant Muslims killed 28 Christians, including a pastor, in central Nigeria last week. A local resident told Morning Star News, “We heard them even mentioning the names of some of our Christian leaders and directing some of them to hunt them down in their homes.”  Clint Lyons with iReach Global spoke to CBN News about the terrible persecution of Christians in Nigeria.  Listen. LYONS: “This isn't just a tragedy, it's a pattern. These attacks are no longer isolated, they are becoming expected. We can almost pinpoint where they're going to happen. Right now, it's looking like the Nigerian government is just simply not responding to the plight of Christians in the area.” Denmark considers banning Islamic call to prayer In Europe, the government of Denmark is considering a ban on the Islamic call to prayer. Morten Bødskov is the country's immigration minister. He recently reopened an investigation into whether such a ban is constitutional.  The Islamic call to prayer, known as the Adhan, calls Muslims five times a day to prayer, often over loudspeakers.  Bødskov told a local news agency, “The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops. It has no place in Denmark, and you shouldn't be in any doubt whether you've ended up in a suburb of Islamabad when you walk around Denmark.” In Isaiah 45:20, 22, the Lord said, “They have no knowledge, who … pray to a god that cannot save. … Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the Earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” U.S. Supreme Court upholds ban of transgenders in sports Here in the United States, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against transgenderism in sports yesterday. The ruling upheld laws in West Virginia and Idaho. These laws prohibit males, pretending to be females, from participating in female sports. Over the past six years, 27 states have enacted such laws.   The ruling stated, “The question before the Court is . . . may schools determine eligibility for women's and girls' sports based on biological sex? The answer is yes.” Report: Liberal Presbyterian Church USA lost 128 congregations The largest Presbyterian denomination in the U.S. continues its decline in membership. A new report from the Presbyterian Church USA found that the denomination lost 26,000 members and 128 congregations from 2024 to 2025. Membership has fallen by an annual average of 4.6 percent over the past 10 years. During that time, the denomination has also continued its theological drifting. The Presbyterian Church USA is known for supporting abortion and sexually perverted lifestyles.  Texas State Board of Education approved Bible on reading list Last week, the Texas State Board of Education approved a public-school reading list that includes the Bible.  Bible verses will become required reading as part of literature studies in 2030. These include readings about Noah's Ark, David and Goliath, the Parting of the Red Sea, and the Beatitudes.  Brandon Hall is a pastor and a member of the state education board. He said, “We're going to stop watering down American history. We're going to teach the truth. Our nation was founded as a Christian nation, and Texas is a Christian state.” Buying a home harder today than previous generation A new report from Pew Research found that buying a home has gotten harder for young adults in most American metro areas.  Eighty-nine percent of adults under 40 say home buying is harder for them than it was for their parents.  Between 2019 and 2024, the inflation-adjusted median home value rose 30 percent. Meanwhile, the inflation-adjusted median household income of young adults rose only nine percent.  Founding anniversary of Gideons who've distributed 2.5 billion Scriptures Today marks the 127th anniversary of the founding of The Gideons, a ministry dedicated to distributing Bibles. Two traveling Christian salesmen got the idea for the ministry after providentially meeting at a hotel. John Nicholson and Samuel Hill later founded the group on July 1, 1899 at a YMCA in Wisconsin.  The ministry encouraged Christian traveling businessmen by placing Bibles in hotel rooms. They placed their first Bible in 1908. Over a hundred years later, The Gideons surpassed 2.5 billion Scriptures distributed worldwide.     Isaiah 52:7 says, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.'” The Worldview needs to raise $123,500 by Friday, July 31st And finally, during the month of July, The Worldview newscast team is looking for financial partners to help fund the next fiscal year for a total of $123,500. In every newscast, we include a story about the persecuted church, highlight Christian news from around the world, reference important Christian history anniversaries, cover domestic politics and social issues like abortion and the homosexual agenda, feature fresh audio clips, we cite two relevant Bible verses, and practical action steps like writing a thank you note to an elected official who took a stand for righteousness. There's not another newscast out there like this one. As you know, beyond our reach on www.TheWorldview.com, Spotify, Amazon Music, iTunes, and SermonAudio.com, the newscast is also heard on 140 radio stations nationwide through Bott Radio Network and Redeemer Broadcasting. So, your financial investment helps us to literally reach hundreds of thousands of people. In Matthew 5:13, Jesus did not pull any punches. He said, "You are the salt of the Earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." What does The Worldview newscast mean to you? Email me your thoughts in 2-4 sentences including your name, city and state, and country if outside America. Send that to Adam@TheWorldview.com We need to raise $12,450 by this Friday, July 3rd. That means we're looking for 10 Worldview listeners to pledge $50 per month for 12 months and 20 listeners to pledge $25/month for 12 months. Go to TheWorldview.com, click on Give, select the dollar amount, and make sure to click on the “recurring” button if that's your wish. Josh opens the show by breaking down what's next in the birthright citizenship case following the Supreme Court's ruling. He explains what the decision actually means, where the legal battle goes from here, and why the fight over the Constitution's interpretation is far from over. Next, Josh discusses the continued shift on the transgender issue, arguing that common sense is finally beginning to prevail on what should be an overwhelming bipartisan issue. He examines the cultural and legal momentum behind the debate. Finally, Josh turns to immigration, highlighting a feisty hearing on Capitol Hill that underscored both the progress made in securing the border and the challenges that remain. He explains why stronger enforcement is still needed—particularly in blue cities—and what lawmakers should prioritize moving forward. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
