A new MP3 sermon from Household of Faith in Christ is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Reflections on Black & White Relations Subtitle: The Faith Debate Speaker: Troy Skinner Broadcaster: Household of Faith in Christ Event: Radio Broadcast Date: 7/26/2020 Length: 24 min.
Many black people have said that they have little expectation of being treated fairly by police in any situation. Even worse, lots of them say they have a high expectation of being demeaned, abused, and being treated violently in any encounter with law enforcement. And yet there are those among them who say that ultimately the problem is not a SKIN problem, but is a SIN problem. If you want to better understand this complex issue and be an agent of reconciliation, then perhaps our discussion here today will provide help along those lines. The panel: Troy Skinner. Faith Debate host and moderator. Jonathan Switzer. Founder of Crossed Bridges in Frederick, Maryland. Vaughn Thurman. Follower of Christ who is a former lay leader within the church. Wilkinson is assistant professor of politics and international affairs at Wake Forest University. In Partners or Rivals, Wilkinson relies on national survey and focus group data to examine how social interaction; feelings of identification with members of their own group and others; and individuals sense of power as established by their racial, economic, and political surroundings impact interracial attitudes. She finds that the complex racial dynamics are not easily reducible to simple formulae, yet they have strong implications for the formation of interracial coalitions.
