JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is my favorite manga series and I'm going to talk about it into a microphone! Each episode, I discuss each epic segment of the celebrated series with a special guest. We try to be spoiler free and make each other laugh, so whether you're new to JoJo or a seasoned fan, please…
Here it is, the super-sized third episode of 30 Years of JoJo! We've made it "Stardust Crusaders," the part of JoJo that changed everything by introducing Stands and some of the series' most memorable characters, catchphrases, and MEMES. Special guest Justin "J.J." Epperson and I have a lot to say about Jotaro, DIO, the D'Arby brothers, and the sizeable wake that Stardust Crusaders has left on the pop culture landscape. We also attempt to answer the hard question of whether or not this story or its lead character are actually any good. Happy Urepi Yoropiku Neeeee! 30 Years of JoJo makes it to two episodes which means we're talking about "Battle Tendency," the second (and first good) part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Boring gentleman Jonathan Joestar is OUT (and I mean OUT) and sexy trickster Joseph Joestar is IN. My special guest is Alex and we get a little giddy because this is our first time speaking in a while, sorry not sorry. But trust me, it's a fun chat where we touch upon monkeys, Nazis, and dicks (but never Nazi monkey dicks). after one test episode where I promised to record more, I actually followed through and made this, the first proper episode of 30 Years of JoJo! I didn't say that title in the recording, though. Call it a retcon - just like the name "Phantom Blood" is a retcon for the very first part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure! Synergy! My very special guest (he is the very first guest on the very first episode, so that's not hyperbole) is Nick Rox, certified JoJo expert and lifelong fan of Japanese things. Join us as we discuss the hard questions like "is this story even worth reading" and "can you skip this and just jump to the fun parts of JoJo" Relevant links: JoJo wiki on Phantom Blood the “JoJo” supercut mentioned in the show footage from the 2007 Phantom Blood movie Sono Chi no Sadame Sono Chi no Sadame - Chiptune Version Roundabout - Chiptune Version
Welcome to 30 Years of JoJo! I call this Episode 0 because it was the first thing I recorded just to prove to myself that I could do it. It also serves as my pitch for the rest of the series: if anything I say in this short recording sounds good to you, I hope you'll be back when the show proper starts! The background music comes from the soundtrack to the first JoJo's Bizarre Adventure back in 1993. As anime soundtracks go it's melodic and otherworldly with not a single pop singer in sight. I love it.
