132: Why Objectification Isn't About Lust: Porn, Power, Pain, and the Fear of Vulnerability | The Deep Psychology Behind Men's Tendency to Objectify Women

Most men believe porn addiction and objectification come from having too much sexual desire. That explanation feels convenient—but it's incomplete. And for many men, it keeps them stuck. In this episode of No More Desire, I break down the real psychology of objectification and explain how porn trains men to avoid vulnerability—not because they're weak or immoral, but because their nervous system learned that distance feels safer than connection.Porn addiction is not about lust. It's about emotional regulation. It's about power, safety, shame, and unmet relational needs. And until we understand the emotional and neurological systems underneath porn addiction, we'll keep fighting the symptom instead of healing the cause. In this episode, I walk you through why objectification intensifies when you're lonely, stressed, anxious, or ashamed—and why white-knuckling, willpower, and self-judgment only fuel the cycle. Using psychology, neuroscience, and grounded spiritual insight, I explain how compulsive sexual behavior functions as a coping strategy, not a character flaw. We'll explore how fantasy becomes a substitute for intimacy, how porn addiction hijacks emotional needs like importance and power, and why shame does not kill lust—it strengthens the system that creates it.I also share practical tools that help men retrain their nervous system, reduce sexual objectification, and recover from porn addiction without repression or shame. This episode is not about eliminating attraction. It's about elevating perception, restoring presence, and building a healthier relationship with your inner world. If you've ever wondered:Why you objectify women even when you don't want toWhy porn addiction gets worse during loneliness or stressWhy shame keeps pulling you back instead of setting you freeHow to heal porn addiction at the nervous-system levelHow to stop objectifying women without suppressing desireThis conversation will change the way you see porn addiction—and yourself. You don't need more willpower. You need leadership over your inner world. If this episode resonates, that's probably not an accident. You're not broken—but parts of you may be carrying pain that deserves leadership, not punishment.Stay present. Stay curious. And keep choosing leadership over reaction.Link to Blog Article for this EpisodeIf you're ready to build the mindset and lifestyle that lead to long-term freedom from porn addiction, join the No More Desire free online community and connect with men who are committed to real recovery. One of the common behavior patterns we HSPs can be prone to is people pleasing – or partner pleasing! Interestingly, on the surface people pleasing seems lovely, it can wreak real emotional havoc and really hurt our intimate relationship over time. Today my special guest, Todd Smith, a highly sensitive person and host of the podcast,  Stress Management for Highly Sensitive People, and I are going to talk about all about people and partner pleasing: what it looks like, what it leads to (ahem, talk about resentment! And overwhelm!), why we do it, and how it affects us and our marriages. You'll hear examples of how we both have "people pleased” in our own lives and relationships, and client stories, as well.  Then we will offer several ways to break this habit or pattern, and ultimately be TRUE to yourself, more authentic and honest in your marriage, and feel more loved for who you really are.Whether you think you may sometimes fall in to people pleasing, or not, you may be surprised at what you'll learn about yourself and other people in your life as you listen to this fun, important, laughter-filled conversation. You'll come away intrigued by how much opportunity for real loving change can come from leaving this pattern in the past, and clear on how to get started. SHOW NOTES:TODD SMITH: Find Todd's website and free Stress Test HEREListen to his podcast, Stress Management for Highly Sensitive People here.HANNAH BROOKSFREE QUIZ: How Much is High Sensitivity Impacting Your Relationship (and are you even highly sensitive)? Militant controlled the Labour Party Young Socialists, had a growing influence in the Labour Party and the unions, had more than 50 councilors and 3 Members of Parliament. It led the Liverpool City Council in battle with the Tory government and also the multi-million strong anti-Poll Tax Campaign, which eventually brought down Thatcher! And yet, today not a single trace is left of what was built. So what went wrong? To educate comrades on this important history and draw out the lessons for building the Revolutionary Communist International today, Communist Revolution editor Joel Bergman presents on how the Militant was built, and how it was destroyed.#communist #marxist #revolutionarycommunistinternational #rci #internationalmarxisttendency #imt#tedgrant #grantism #trotskyist #trotskyism #britishtrotskyism #trotsky #themilitant #militanttendency #cwi #committeeforaworkersinternational #socialistpartybritain #socialistalternative #taaffe #petertaaffe

Featured Musician: Julia Rose Pagac The Video: [After THE JUMP: Things said.] --------------------- 1. Minnesota After Review starts at the top. Brian feels crazy sometimes because he can't understand the though process of playing Evan Link after we see that Gentry and Persi are…fine? We aren't seeing practice but literally can't be worse. Only one (1!) designed run for Alex Orji. Clear that they haven't practice Orji offense because nobody is ready for the natural reactions. Maybe they're just focused on next year? 2. Washington Preview: Offense starts at 26:03 Getting 500 yard of offense against live defenses like Northwestern and Rutgers, but offensive line is a trouble spot. Tackles are uptransfers who are struggling at this level, interior is an OSU downtransfer, a Portland State uptransfer, and a guard whose name is Gaard Memmelaar. Keeping it alive by having former air raid QB Will Rogers knowing where to go with the ball, and elite RB Jonah Coleman making yards out of nothing, and a very good tall and fast receiver in Denzel Boston who's broken out this year. Tendency to shoot themselves in the foot though. 3. Washington Preview: Defense starts at 41:08 The Rutgers offense is unfortunately a good stand-in for Michigan. Interesting rotation at DE where they can play a 290-pound guy, or a 260-pound 4-3 DE, or a 225-pound edge, or a 230-pound tight end eraser. Washington likes to put their "WLB" Alphonzo Tuputala at the "Uche" position—IE off the edge—and bring down SS Kamren Fabiculanan as an extra LB. Stuffed Rutgers on most drives but they give up the badly timed big play, which is often an RB breaking a tackle. Star is MLB Carson Bruener but they ask him to do a lot and he's a modern NFL linebacker who can be clonked if a blocker gets to him. Free safety Cameron Broussard has tackling issues. Making do with an interior DL that we didn't expect much from and which took some injury hits to their depth, but they've held up so far. Corners are pretty good in coverage, which is going to be mostly Cover 1 against Michigan as they stack the box—their only other coverage is Cover 2. Top 25, but barely, and credit to Steve Belichick for putting it together. 4. Hockey Preview starts at 1:03:44 A summary of Alex's hockey preview series. They're not a collection of 1st rounders anymore, Michigan Hockey Summer took its toll there but they got older and bring back a lot of good pieces. Might be more of a depth team at forward this year. Discussion whether they should load up same types (e.g. speed line, heavy line) or space out their skills. Defensively they have B+ guys five deep and two good additions who should battle with Luka for the 6th/7th spots. In this they seem to have a lot of varied abilities. Goalie is a Ferris State transfer in Stein who needs to be taken in Ferris context, and a 160(?)-pound build-a-Portillo who might take the job this season or might need a year to fill out. In the Big Ten there are two tiers: Minnesota/MSU/Michigan/Wisconsin who expect to make the tournament, and Notre Dame/Penn State/Ohio State who would like to. Michigan has a *tough* nonconference schedule. About the Featured Musician: Julia Rose THE BAND: Julia Rose Pagac is a Metro-Detroit musician with an eclectic list of influences: rock, funk, blues, folk and hints of country that are most in Julia's vocals. I heard of her because her session drummer is Reggie "Banga!" Williams Jr., a local legend in the metro-D music community. They'll be at the Pig on October 12th. Song choices: "Army" "Butterfly" "Pillow" Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken now now, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat

He spent close to a decade racing professionally, and has been coaching both at the university level and individually throughout his adult life. Following retirement from elite-level racing, he returned to graduate school earning a M.S. in exercise physiology, and continued to evolve both his knowledge of athletes and coaching, thus further developing his ability to help others reach their goals. As he balances being a husband, father of four, career professional, and his love of competition, triathlon and endurance sports remain a cornerstone in his life. C.J. is passionate about fitness as a lifestyle, and believes that every athlete's personal journey toward their goals should enrich their lives. His experience has given him a unique understanding of how to balance the stresses of everyday life, family, career, and extracurricular commitments, with progress, health, happiness, and achievement of one's goals. While he believes that the general path toward an endurance lifestyle is similar for everyone, he also believes each individual's journey is highly specific. Through open communication, trust, and a cooperative relationship, he relies on a strategy of prescribing the most effective training at the right time for each athlete to reach their goals, while not having to sacrifice the other loves in their life. While the 70.3 and Ironman distance hold a special place in his heart, he also races and has unique experience in events including Xterra, mountain bike endurance racing, mountain bike stage racing, running events of all distances, and many others. He has been fortunate to have the opportunity to help guide athletes of all levels (first timers, professionals, collegiate athletes, collegiate champions, and world championship qualifiers) to achieve their goals. He believes that fitness helps us to be happier, healthier, and enriches our lives. C.J. looks forward to the opportunity to chat with you about your personal journey.
