Can honor transform a struggling marriage? For Day 15 of the Love Dare, we learn how treating your spouse as a "fellow heir of the grace of life" creates an atmosphere where love can flourish again. Kirk illustrates the difference between honoring someone because they deserve it versus honoring them because of their sacred position in your life. Kirk challenges listeners to show greater honor to your spouse above your normal tendency by listening more attentively and giving greater weight to their words. This covenant commitment becomes part of the self-governance essential to restoring our nation. In this episode of The Observatory, James ‘Fish' Gill joins the show to discuss his new book, How to Fall in Love with Humanity. The book explains our tendency to frame the people who hurt us as villains and how we can overcome that and bring love and awareness to our pain. James Gill is a heart coach, yoga teacher, and transformational facilitator based in Perth, Australia. He supports couples, businesses, and community groups to regrow trust, connection, and understanding. Hear James's personal story of creating a victim villain narrative, why the mind naturally villainizes, why villainizing is unskillful, and the best way to deal with the person who hurt you. III.OVERVIEWThat Propensity which has been proved to be in the Nature of all Mankind, must be a very evil, de|praved and pernicious Propensity; making it manifest that the Soul of Man, as it is by Nature, is in a corrupt, fallen and ruin'd State: which is the other Part of the Consequence, drawn from the Proposition laid down in the first Section.Question to be considered, in Order to deter|mine whether Man's Nature is not depraved and ruin'd, is not, Whether he is not inclined to perform as many good Deeds as bad ones? But, Which of these two he preponderates to, in the Frame of his Heart, and State of his Nature, a State of Innocence and Righteousness, and Favour with God; or a State of Sin, Guiltiness and Abhorrence in the Sight of God?—Persevering sinless Righteousness, or else the Guilt of Sin, is the Alternative, the Decision of which depends (as is confessed) according to the Nature and Truth of Things, as they are in them|selves, and according to the Rule of Right and of perfect Justice, Man's being approved and accepted of his Maker, and eternally blessed as good; or his being rejected, thrown away and cursed as bad. And therefore the Determi|nation of the Tendency of Man's Heart and Nature with respect to these Terms, is that which is to be look'd at, in Order to determine whether his Nature is good or evil, pure or corrupt, sound or ruin'd. If such be Man's Na|ture, and state of his Heart, that he has an infallibly ef|fectual Propensity to the latter of those Terms;; then it is wholly impertinent, to talk of the innocent and kind Actions, even of Criminals themselves, surpassing their Crimes in Numbers; and of the prevailing Innocence, good Nature, Industry, Felicity and Chearfulness of the greater Part of Mankind. Let never so many Thou|sands, or Millions of Acts of Honesty, good Nature &c.descriptionPAGE 28be supposed; yet, by the Supposition, there is an unfail|ing Propensity to such moral Evil, as in it's dreadful Con|sequences infinitely out-weighs all Effects or Consequen|ces of any supposed Good. Surely that Tendency, which, in Effect, is an infallible Tendency to eternal Destruction, is an infinitely dreadful & pernicious Tendency: And that Nature & Frame of Mind, which implies such a Tendency, must be an infinitely dreadful & pernicious Frame of Mind. It would be much more absurd, to suppose, that such a State of Nature is good, or not bad, under a Notion of Men's doing more honest and kind things, than evil ones; than to say, the State of that Ship is good, to cross the Atlantick Ocean in, that is such as cannot hold together through the Voyage, but will infallibly founder and sink by the Way; under a Notion that it may probably go great Part of the Way before it sinks, or that it will pro|ceed and sail above Water more Hours than it will be in sinking:—Or, to pronounce thatRoad a good Road to go to such a Place, the greater Part of which is plain and safe, tho' some Parts of it are dangerous, and certainly fatal to them that travel in it; or to call that a good Pro|pensity, which is an inflexible Inclination to travel in such a Way.SECT. V.The Depravity of Nature appears, in that the general Consequence of the State & Tendency of Man's Nature is a much greater Degree of Sin, than Righteousness; not only with respect to Value and Demerit, but Matter and Quantity.I Have before shewn, that there is a Propensity in Man's Nature to that Sin, which in Heinousness and Ill-desert immensely outweighs all the Value and Merit of any supposed Good, that may be in him, or that he can do.

Our conversation with Nadia Bevan continues our series profiling research about women's football. Angela Christian-Wilkes and Nadia delve into Nadia's ethnographic research on developing a women's football team at a club in Melbourne. Listeners are steering the ship once again, in our latest Q&A episode.Thom answers a question about karma and how it fits into the dynamics of our relationships. It turns out that it's our relationship with our Self that matters most.Thom also tackles a question about charm, in particular, how we can adapt when charm doesn't seem to be as supported by Nature as we would expect. Finally, Thom gives a definitive answer to the age-old question, can there be art without suffering? It's a question that could easily be answered with one word, but Thom provides a rationale that leaves us in no doubt about the role of suffering in art.Episode Highlights[00:45] Q - How do karmic relationships with others work?[01:20] A - Karma: Action That Binds You[03:24] The Knot of Karma[05:22] Kṛiya - Spontaneous Right Action[07:29] Untying the Knots of Karma[09:25] Moving in the Direction of Kṛiya[12:15] Vedic Meditation - Losing the Tendency to Create Problems[14:12] Q - How can I understand the nuances of charm?[14:52] A - A Big Bundle of Capability[16:55] Charm and Aversion[18:52] Thinning Out of Charm[20:02] Moving from Capability to the Field of Need[22:27] Witnessing vs. Engaging[23:53] Witnessing the Self in Action Through Others[26:03] Engage or Witness: Do What You Can[27:45] Q - Can There Be Art Without Suffering?[27:47] A - The Most Artistically Productive Era?[29:25] What Creates Great Art?[30:33] Artistic Talents Despite Suffering[32:17] The Artistic GiftUseful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/

Featured Musician: Julia Rose Pagac The Video: [After THE JUMP: Things said.] --------------------- 1. Minnesota After Review starts at the top. Brian feels crazy sometimes because he can't understand the though process of playing Evan Link after we see that Gentry and Persi are…fine? We aren't seeing practice but literally can't be worse. Only one (1!) designed run for Alex Orji. Clear that they haven't practice Orji offense because nobody is ready for the natural reactions. Maybe they're just focused on next year? 2. Washington Preview: Offense starts at 26:03 Getting 500 yard of offense against live defenses like Northwestern and Rutgers, but offensive line is a trouble spot. Tackles are uptransfers who are struggling at this level, interior is an OSU downtransfer, a Portland State uptransfer, and a guard whose name is Gaard Memmelaar. Keeping it alive by having former air raid QB Will Rogers knowing where to go with the ball, and elite RB Jonah Coleman making yards out of nothing, and a very good tall and fast receiver in Denzel Boston who's broken out this year. Tendency to shoot themselves in the foot though. 3. Washington Preview: Defense starts at 41:08 The Rutgers offense is unfortunately a good stand-in for Michigan. Interesting rotation at DE where they can play a 290-pound guy, or a 260-pound 4-3 DE, or a 225-pound edge, or a 230-pound tight end eraser. Washington likes to put their "WLB" Alphonzo Tuputala at the "Uche" position—IE off the edge—and bring down SS Kamren Fabiculanan as an extra LB. Stuffed Rutgers on most drives but they give up the badly timed big play, which is often an RB breaking a tackle. Star is MLB Carson Bruener but they ask him to do a lot and he's a modern NFL linebacker who can be clonked if a blocker gets to him. Free safety Cameron Broussard has tackling issues. Making do with an interior DL that we didn't expect much from and which took some injury hits to their depth, but they've held up so far. Corners are pretty good in coverage, which is going to be mostly Cover 1 against Michigan as they stack the box—their only other coverage is Cover 2. Top 25, but barely, and credit to Steve Belichick for putting it together. 4. Hockey Preview starts at 1:03:44 A summary of Alex's hockey preview series. They're not a collection of 1st rounders anymore, Michigan Hockey Summer took its toll there but they got older and bring back a lot of good pieces. Might be more of a depth team at forward this year. Discussion whether they should load up same types (e.g. speed line, heavy line) or space out their skills. Defensively they have B+ guys five deep and two good additions who should battle with Luka for the 6th/7th spots. In this they seem to have a lot of varied abilities. Goalie is a Ferris State transfer in Stein who needs to be taken in Ferris context, and a 160(?)-pound build-a-Portillo who might take the job this season or might need a year to fill out. In the Big Ten there are two tiers: Minnesota/MSU/Michigan/Wisconsin who expect to make the tournament, and Notre Dame/Penn State/Ohio State who would like to. Michigan has a *tough* nonconference schedule. About the Featured Musician: Julia Rose THE BAND: Julia Rose Pagac is a Metro-Detroit musician with an eclectic list of influences: rock, funk, blues, folk and hints of country that are most in Julia's vocals. I heard of her because her session drummer is Reggie "Banga!" Williams Jr., a local legend in the metro-D music community. They'll be at the Pig on October 12th. Song choices: "Army" "Butterfly" "Pillow" Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken now now, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat

Revival In Motion: Our tendency to label people & the growing trend of labelling others toxic by Radio Islam
In episode 168. Look How Far You've Come, I share an important perspective shift that can make a big difference in your mission experience and beyond - focusing on your gains rather than the gap. I was inspired by a message from my coach, who encouraged our group to celebrate our progress and achievements. So often, we have a tendency to fixate on our shortcomings and how far we have left to go. But I explain how this mindset can actually hold us back, creating feelings of discouragement and inadequacy. Instead, I suggest we "measure backwards" - looking at how far we've come rather than just focusing on the distance to our goals. By reflecting on our past accomplishments, even the small ones, we can build genuine confidence and motivation to keep moving forward. I share personal examples of how this has played out with my missionary clients, helping them recognize their impressive growth. I believe this gain-focused mindset is key for thriving during and after your mission, so I encourage you to give it a try. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends. Co-Dependent Definition: Emotional or psychological reliance on a partner. Tendency of leaders to set-up their leadership as co-dependent. Small Ways: Can't make a decision because the Boss it out of town. Big Ways: “We left the Church because the pastor left, it's just what you do” Issue: The test of great leadership is what happens when you're absent. Why Do We Do That? Kindest Way: We don't even realize we're doing it and we don't know how not to. Where tools like vision, values, systems come into play when they're being used to empower, not create bureaucracy. Realest Way: We feel like imposters, we're not secure in our role, we want to feel needed. Acknowledge that it feels good to need your opinion to make a decision. Acknowledge that it feels good for people to leave because you're no longer there because it's not the same. Point We want to feel wanted. When a leader leads to feel wanted, they become needed, and create co-dependency. Co-Dependent Leadership The Impact of Co-Dependent Leadership Hurts longevity. No momentum beyond current tenure. Cripples Development. Think of like a parent who needs to be needed by their kids. The result is the kids never become adults. Here: The followers never become leaders in their own right. Antidote You antidote to co-dependent leadership is security. Security is built on: Awareness of Gifting. Don't need validation of your competency. Security is built on testing and trial, not just affirmation. Amateurs want to know they did well, professionals want to know how they can get better. Donald Miller. Commitment to Calling, not assignment. Security will never exist if all you have is a job. What I do supercedes the person I'm doing it with's opinion of me. Effectiveness that is built on your willingness to adapt. Key is listening and adapting. People will tell you how to lead them, not because it's a perfect match. Conclusion The danger of co-dependent leadership. Cultivate Security.

Leila Rahimi recapped her experience in hosting the NBC Sports Chicago postgame show after the White Sox earned a 3-2 win in 10 innings against the Mariners on Thursday.
The thing about being a WOC business owner is that we tend to use our big hearts against ourselves. When all you want to do is serve, it's understandable that you'd put yourself on the back burner. In fact, that tendency is often the first thing that's modeled to us as children. But here's the thing: abandoning our own needs, energetically or monetarily, is a huge disservice to everyone around us. It's the old adage of "put your mask on before putting on your neighbors." For example, if I'm undercharging, I actually can't help people the way I want to because I'm constantly worried about how I'm going to support my daughter. So today, I'm going through the four energy and profit leaks that are most common amongst WOC entrepreneurs. Here's a quick rundown: 1. Juggling too many things before you have the profit and support for it.We all need to be prioritizing profit first. You need demand for ONE offer before the profit can create out of overflow. Spreading yourself too thin from the beginning looks like trying to create an offer for every conceivable buyer. 2. We make things “accessible” before making them sustainable. You can't lift 100 people onto a lifeboat. It costs money to run programs at scale. Profit first, then scale. You can help more people for free through your emails, podcasts, and workshops. But focus on making the result so good that you have less thoughts about the price. If we forget to build the belief that our offers change lives, it's hard to sell a sustainable offer. 3. Tendency to over-index on education and service.I'm seeing WOC teaching and running free workshops with no clear sell and leading free groups. But then they're not building a clear bridge to your offer. Spend more copy “real estate” building a bridge + talking about the offer!4. Discomfort with rest and calendar space. Most of us associate hard work with keeping us safe. This has been true for past generations, and it was even modeled to us through our mothers. But in business, million-dollar thinking occurs in calendar space. If you enjoy this episode, please remember to leave a review and share the show with friends! He spent close to a decade racing professionally, and has been coaching both at the university level and individually throughout his adult life. Following retirement from elite-level racing, he returned to graduate school earning a M.S. in exercise physiology, and continued to evolve both his knowledge of athletes and coaching, thus further developing his ability to help others reach their goals. As he balances being a husband, father of four, career professional, and his love of competition, triathlon and endurance sports remain a cornerstone in his life. C.J. is passionate about fitness as a lifestyle, and believes that every athlete's personal journey toward their goals should enrich their lives. His experience has given him a unique understanding of how to balance the stresses of everyday life, family, career, and extracurricular commitments, with progress, health, happiness, and achievement of one's goals.
